Congo and Zipulis latest work in progress. Just started the detailing and shadowing of our Finnish BMP-2 (OLD GOAT). Probably gonna take a while as I'm extremely busy with work and such. Gotta build tow cables and tools for rear hull, added shovel on hull and some details such as stowage straps on turret and water/weather cover to top of hull. anyway here it is. Feedback please.

Sweet; very, very sweet. Does it mean I'm a shallow person if I fall in love with a modded PC just because of its looks?

...Gotta build tow cables and tools for rear hull...When you say "build" are those details you are going to add to the skin or are you changing or adding to the model???

Can't add or change the model, so it must be paintwork. It will still look good though I'm sure.

Androo, falling in love with ANY BMP-2 is quite alright!

The work continues, spent some time today working the road wheels, drive sprocket and idler, made changes to upper hull and turret, hardened up lines for grenade launchers, hardened up rivets and bolts, minor shading.

Hackworth:Can't add or change the model, so it must be paintwork. It will still look good though I'm sure. That's actually a relief. Because if it were possible to alter / build models, then I would have been compelled to try to learn how to do that in addition to trying to learn how to do skins and textures.
I'm with you, I'm sure the skin will still look very good indeed.

Thanks, Zipuli, it's good to know that there are other people like me out there!

Congo it is looking better and better. It is almost to the point where side by side with a photo of a real one I would have to look twice to be sure which was which. Skins don't get much better than that.

Did a little detailing on the rear hull what a tedious job getting it all to fall in place. Gotta take a break my eyes look like two piss holes in a swamp. Still more to go, crowbar, waterlines and such.

That is shockingly beautiful. Alas, would that she were crewable!

Keep up the great work!

Added jimmy bar, detailed road wheels and side skirts next comes suspension gear on side of lower hull. Hull markings and such, its so addictive will I ever finnish or should I say FINNISH. Just thought you guys might like to watch this beast take shape.some of the challenges were getting the retrieval cables to line up as the hatch covering was a different component on the bitmap. Grating and covers were constructed from scratch between Zip and me. I added the buckles and hold downs. Shovel and jimmy were done from scratch. Stll need to do ATGM tube and more minor detailing on turret top. Like I said it will never be done.

Those last few shots of yours look much brighter, and imo much better, than the others are too dark on either my home and office PC screen, especially around the running gear.

Great photos Zipuli! I say again!- ...it is looking better and better. It is almost to the point where side by side with a photo of a real one I would have to look twice to be sure which was which. Skins don't get much better than that. I know it is not finished. However, there is one little thing I was going to mention earlier, but didn't because I wasn't sure enough of my facts... But the photos confirm it: the middle layer of the roundel is blue in the photos but appears olive drab on the skin?

The second photo prompts an obvious question: do the Finns ever use any winter camo, Zipuli?

Androo,

I just pulled up the skin and checked the Rondel.

R-87 H-180
G-96 S-9%
B-96 B-38%.

Thats kind of a blueish grey I washed it out a little when I did it. Zip ok'd and of course had the option to change it if he wanted. I figures hell he's Finnish Military and should know. I believe their rondels are appliques and not painted so he claims that they lose a lot of them. When we post we'll probably offer with and without markings. We're planning on one in Finnish Armor School markings similar to the Leo we did some time back. Zip still needs to dirty it up after I complete the detailing so its probably going be several weeks before we are ready to upload. Anyway thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

That's really nice work there guys. Awesome ;) I can't wait for the release. I think you have it right on in the last pics with the color. The earlier shots were too dark. FYI all: If you have something like Jaguar's overcast sky on, the textures seem to darken all over the map. So, though this looks bright under the sun in these pics, with that type of sky it would probably look quit a bit darker and more like the earlier pics (appropriately so).

Great work guys.

todays progress and BTW Hack you are correct about colors with overcast sky. I've upped the brightness and contrast a shade or two but it may all change before release.Zip will get it this weekend to apply a good layer of Finnish dust and then we'll bounce it back and forth a few times for final adjustments so maybe in a week or so. Sit tight it will be worth the wait.

I had noticed that effect, but basically, did not believe my eyes. I just put it down to the overcast skies changing the mood (ie my visual interpretation). A lot.

So what is up with that??? Perhaps a latent, not yet fully implemented script to deal with different skies, perhaps even night??? Well whatever is happening, it is really cool and quite helpful.

Congo, whew, thanks for that answer. Yup Zipuli should definitely know. It is probably just not coming through in the screenies. I will see if I can figure out how to get those colour values into Paint. In the end, if I still wanted it a little more blue (what is with me and blue?- blue water; blue roundels...) my modding skills (or almost total lack thereof) will probably allow me to brighten it up slightly (just for my own use, of course). Looking forward to that Armour School one as well.

Finns use winter camo too!

About the rondel and such... After we have tossed the nearly finished skin back and forth a few times I will make sure everything is like it should be. As it is said, this is still work in progres!

Yes they do look fine all together. That BMP will really add some dimension to the team.

OK, here's how it looks after my treatment. I changed the colours a bit to better match the Leo and T-72 we did earlier, debugged the pattern, sharpened the pattern edges, added some more detail -such as a bit bigger rondel and so on..., and then added a slight layer of dust.

What do you think?

LOL, okay, that's pretty damn awesome! Very good work guys ;)

Just curious, but are you guys going to release a muddy version too? like the Strv-121 in the pics above? That's a great job on the mud. Looks magnificent.

Zipuli
06-03-2006, 09:35 PM
LOL, it's not Strv 121 - that's the Swede-wagon! We simply call it Leopard 2A4. I will also add mud to the T-72M1 and BMP-2, but more about that (much) later! I am now sending the files to Congo for the last time - next thing is he will upload it for you guys to download!

Next thing after that is the release of "CZStudios Finnpack part 1" that will include:
-Leo 2A4 (fin, armour school, no markings) (updated)
-T-72M1 (fin, no markings) (updated)
-BMP-2 (fin, armour school, no markings)

After that I'll mud them all up for autumn theme... but that will be much later and it'll take time!
