Non-fiction: Victory at Sea

have to second that one...excellent.

Fiction: MASH

haven't been too many fiction war series have there? Can't think of many.
Winds of War was good. Robert Mitchum I think was in that.

Non-fiction: The Civil War on PBS

Fiction: Hogan's Heros (It wasn't the best, no, but I liked it the most.)

That's only if we stick with American shows, however. I like a number of Japanese animation series better - Area 88 being one of the best. It's about a group of mercenary pilots flying in a civil war in contemporary North Africa.

Actually, I can think of quite a few American fiction series set in war-time, but most of them were comedys. What does that say about us?

Haven't heard about a Vietnam comedy... :o

Can't think of any TV shows but there was the movie Air America with Mel Gibson and Robert Downy Jr and another one where some army unit was moving an elephant to some Thai village that that had Danny Glover in it (don't remember the name) were comedies .

I would have to "second" both of those. Combat was my absolute favorite!

But these movies are, stricly seen, movies on Laos and Cambodia, places where US soldiers never were... And Air America shows nothing on the war - just the financing side as well as lots of cowboy mentality.

For my fiction can I choose G.I.Joe.....or maybe Starship Trooper.......

For non-fiction It has to be my Grandpa's home movies from WW2....

If that doesn't count then The Historys channels "The Color of War".
