HI
I am brand new here - recently purchased SB Gold Ed to try out. When I go to install - I get an error stating:
E:\windows\system32\autoexec.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows Applications. Choose Close to terminate.
I checked - do NOT have an autoexec.NT bat file in my named directory.
I am running Win XP SP2. Could someone please advise on a fix?
Thanks
Tom

Windows on an E drive? Are you dual-booting or doing something equally odd?

Hey T, welcome to SB.
This may or may not be the answer here, but with WXP, one thing you have to do is put your OS in the W98 mode for SB gold. This has to due with SB pro runs only at 256 (close.. lol) color, and WXP in itself, does not recognize SB gold because of this. Once you have the OS in the 98 mode, which does recognize 256 color, then IIRC, your PC screen will show it.
The E drive situation, like 3star said, is a bit baffling.. lol

No, you just need to create an Autoexec.nt and place it in the folder. You need to extract it from the windows installation disc or the ..\i386\ folder that probably is on your harddrive; it's there as "autoexec.nt_" (notice the underscore). With the Cabinet file viewer you can extract it.

Actually there is an easier method than the solution mentioned by ssnake...
Copy autoexec.nt and config.nt from WINDOWS\REPAIR to C:\ then reboot and you should be good to go

Thanks to all for your quick response - I have my system drive E: due to a previous OS migration - am also "mirroring" my system drive. I will try what you
all have suggested.
Thanks again

I must be lucky. I never had any problems with SB1 or SBG running on XP...

I just got my Steel Beast gold, loaded and played no problem at all.

Excellent find! 8)
Except that you should copy it (also) into the ..\WINDOWS\system32\ directory. That's where XP will be looking first

Thanks to all - copied the autoexec.NT and config.NT to both the \WINDOWS\system32\ directory AND to the E: (root) and SB now works.
Great game - is anyone developing any additional scenarios for SB Gold?
Thanks
Tom

If so, you'll find them here in the Downloads section. But most of those who are still actively playing SB and developing scenarios seem to be using SB Pro PE now.
