Hello there! Can anyone tell me if the ERA on the T series tanks actually work in the game?

Meaning if the tank were to be hit by an RPG, will the ERA explode to cancel the attack and leave an empty space where the ERA armor had been?

cheers

no. and thats not how kontakt -5 works anyways. the ERA explodes, leaving an empty shell that still provides standoff armour.

Following the logic of compartmentalized ERA module designers we simply add a higher HEAT resistance value to areas covered by ERA. It's a CPU/performance issue. It is technically possible to treat every single brick as a mesh, and then disable that mesh if it got hit. However, the more meshes a model has, the more LOS and collision calculations must be performed, and that's what's killing this concept. We have to treat it as a single, uniform area.

kontakt 5 has some APFSDS defeating capabilities - is that taken into account or solely HEAT is beeing factored?

take a look at the picture at the bottom.

Hey, thks for the replies. Its a shame the hardware can't handle it, otherwise it would be an interesting visual effect.

Oh, and thanks for the hardwork on this simply awesome simulation.

cheers

No, we also assign a resistance value against KE penetrators.

TRUST ME! Esim has done a GREAT job in showing the effectiveness of ERA. The models for the T-80U turret are RIGHT ON. So much so that one of the techniques I have learned for fighting T-80Us is to aim for the turret's search light. There is no ERA there and it's one of the few ways to kill one head-on. This is not easy feat.
