In SB gold about half the time after a kill, the enemy tank doesn't give off and smoke or flame. It just sits there. It makes it kind of hard to sort out who to engage and who not to. How does everyone else sort this out?
Up close you can tell by looking at the "drooped" gun tube, but no flames or smoke? At a distance it can be a bit frustrating at times. All of the T72 in the screen are dead but only one is burning.
Other then that no major complaints, obviously I need to get the SB PRo for the "real thing"

Same thing in Pro, and i like it. Not every tank you hit will burst into flames and spit smoke. But it's annoying when the TC can't see the target and you can't tell if it's dead or alive, in Pro it's a fast procedure to empty the ready-rack.

It's a feature. "Silent kills" do happen in reality.

Yep a round can enter, turn everyone inside to gooey red sauce and exit out the other side without any other telltale that it is destroyed.I like the feature of the ammo cooking off a few minutes after you have destroyed it.Scares the beejesus out of you as you sneak up beside it to use the flaming hulk as cover.
in reality, sometimes it's even harder to recognize a target as killed. just think about a tank in HD position that was killed. in reality, many times the tube will stay up, and pointing your direction.
both in '67 and in '73, some dead tanks got hit over 30 times because of that. you just can never be too sure.

Hey T101,
First, I never did say welcome to our community.. welcome!
As far as seeing, knowing a dead unit, yep, many just lose hydrualics, and the turret droops, or better, the Leos, when ya pop them right, the turret flys off, and that is a sweet dead notice to ya.. lol
But, GS made a great small sce, H to H MP one, that has M1 vs Leos, along with APC's on both sides, but the battlefield is littered with alot of dead units on both sides, from the start. Talk about not knowing.. lol
Anyway, Lonny007 has a thread in this fourm called SB1 dinasours call, something close to that, but he, and around 5 others, so far, are engaging in online MP, and I intend to get back into SB1 sometime within the next 2 weeks (just got to tie up some lose ends first) but, sometime next week I'm gonna hook up with Lonny and download him that sce, along with many other classic, great, SB1 sce's that are timeless, and are pure gold..lol (really)
Hook up with Lonny, and hopefully we'll see ya soon for some great hunting..

This is excellent then. Emptying the ready rack on a destroyed vehicle that you think is alive is definately realistic. As a matter of fact, learning to NOT do this takes great discipline and skill and is one of the biggest things that tank gunners have to learn.
A long while back, in one training rotation through the CCTT, my platoon was constantly given unsatisfactory remarks because the platoon would regularly put about 10-20 sabots in a single tank because of lack of fire discipline and not observing whether the target was killed, abandoned or not (is it moving anymore, or is it firing?).
My platoon slogan then became "shoot the target until it changes shape" because only then will you defiantely know it is dead. ;)

Well, I guess that was my point, I did NOT think it was all that realistic. I'm not saying it doesn't happen but its to frequent in SBG.
Maybe I'm wrong, I'm no expert in the dymanics of the balistics involved. I have however seen what happens to many enemy tanks when they are hit, it is very obvious when they are destroyed. I have also seen what it looks like when an M1A1 gets hit and destroyed unfortunately.
I would think it would be difficult for an armor vehicle, especially a T series tank, not to signs of a kill.
I guess I'm racking it up to the older graphics engine. Can't really do to much with it anyway.

In pro burning AFVs is even less likely IIRC

Ah, ok. From what I understand, it really would happen that frequently. Ammo cook off does occur but, for the most part, "silent kills" are a reality. This is especially true when using KE rounds.
My point was that they occur at such a high probablity in real life that specific training measures are taken to counter and control fire against these disabled vehicles. But I guess no matter the training or the situation, when in doubt shoot it again is what we always said.
Of course there is always room for improvement, such as decals that could be applied to show holes in the vehicles from penetrating hits or burned out textures for vehicles that have since burnt competely out, or seperate destroyed models from catastrophic explosions. These will take time though.

I have however seen what happens to many enemy tanks when they are hit, it is very obvious when they are destroyed. As I recall, at one time it was doctrine to put a round into something that looked dead, just to be sure. Has that changed, or maybe I was mistaken to begin with?
