Whoohooo! Now that sounds sweet...:cool3:
Scorpius, I would like to have a M1A1 ambush skin too. Is that a possibility?
It would be nice having M1s and Leos together, using the ambush theme. That would be something! Thanks for the excellent skins!
And thank you so much for your kind comment on my M1 woodland skin. The same goes to RogueSnake (your skins rock, man!) and to Daskal. You guys made some sleepless nights well worth it. You are the experts. Those four skins I posted are the first I've ever done, so it means a lot to me.

Sounds cool.
I've got another one for ya :)
But it should be easy, a early ww2 german 2A4. That German gray, with the cross. That would be cool.
I've been fool'n around with your template BTW. :)

Rogue that looks pretty tough! Gray w/cross...easy peasy...
Fabfire, thanks. Yes, I can do an ambush for the M1 as well. 1 more on the list....
Gotta run for now.

Okay I'm going to finish the Marder this weekend and *try* to knock out RogueSnakes request for the overal gray skin. This past weekend I spent most of my time editing the FC vid, so didn't do any skinning work.

The Jaguar is next on the ambush list.
RogueSnake's gray Leo2a4 is mostly done except for the turret roof.

AH! I see what you mean - the star on the side skirt - yes, I think it can be a little smaller, too.
I am revising my latest M1, too - seems I've got carried away with the blacks on that one...

I was just about to ask you for that.. I have been building my own templates, but as I use yours exclusively as the base, it's hard to set up the right blank layer, so I can get the final product to look as good as I wanted it to...

It's looking pretty good. It's very difficult to find the right desert camo scheme in 2-3 colors. Getting it right is an acomplishment by itself.
I really like it. I'm looking forward to it! And the M1 "Shermanized". And the M1 in Tiger ambush camo... :)
Scorpius
08-25-2006, 12:51 AM
Okay for those who are interested, I've uploaded the 3 color desert scheme for the Abrams. Here is the description...
"3 Color Desert Abrams by Scorpius
Inspired by an NTC pattern, although different. 2048 and 1024 resolution included along with the turret roof. Thanks to RogueSnake for his template."

These 2 "enhanced" skins have been submitted for download. They include the turret roof textures and the main files are 2048 in size. They look the same as in the most recent screenies previously in this thread, I've just tweaked it here and there. The winter texture has nets and snow coverage, and the woodland has nets added.

Greetings Scorpius,
Just a note on the original model skin. There seems to be an incorrectly rendered section on the Gun tube, the second section of thermal sleave (from the muzzel) appears to be slid forward by 1/2 it's length. Leaving a gap exposing the barrel. The thermal sleave has to completly cover the entire barrel assembly, save for the fume extractor, to do it's job correctly.
Did something get moved slightly in the original skin layout?

Hiya! Do you have a screenshot, and which texture are you using?
Edit: I'm not showing any issues on my end here. Perhaps it's a mapping issue....?
Thanks!

It's from your image pictures that are posted in this thread. And I'm assuming also placed in the downloads section?
Ps: If I haven't mentioned it yet the skins are all execellent!

BTW I'm not sure what that is...maybe a modeling issue? I don't know. The actual texture has that detailed, I can't explain why it's so skinny.
Thanks for the compliment!

Greetings all,
Ref the missing thermal sleve section.
After some futher investiagation, the section in question is still thermally protected but with a denser and smaller/narrower sleve. This section is where the rear hull "travel lock" secures to the barrel, and the additional length along the barrel (section wider than travel lock hasp) is to allow for slight "barrel run in" while still securing the barrel.
The smaller section is not as bad as the model shows and only slightly smaller than the normal thermal sleve.

Gosh, the Leo1 is getting more and more Wehrmacht-like.
Fabfire
09-06-2006, 06:37 AM
I really love those Whermacht camo schemes. Got me thinking in adapting some Tiger camo to the Leo2... There's lots of interesting schemes used on the Tigers, as heavy (Tiger) Bns had their unique camo patterns...

I actually didn't have the wehrmacht in mind. I'm using a camo generating filter in Photoshop to do this that makes things fairly easy to do. I was looking for a pattern that would blend well with the terrain over a small distance. The smaller the pattern is, the better it works I think. It took some time to decide on the coloration, but this pattern imo makes the Leo look more intimidating.
Come to think of it, it does look wehrmacht-like doesn't it? I'd like to see a .sce where it's Leo's vs. T-72 and nobody has TIS capability. I'm just looking to try something different than the NATO pattern or overall green thing.

Yes. I have been experimenting with this Camouflage filter too, and you're right - the smaller the pattern, the better it works. The new pattern really got the Leo looking mean.:)
The NATO pattern is nice, I like it, but the Wehrmacht had all those cool patterns... I really like what you're doing. We should try more of those WW2 camo patterns - I feel they will look very good on the sleeker MBT's like the M1, Leo and T-72M1, T80U, etc.
There is something NATO I haven't see around here yet: the old MERDC pattern. Pic from George R. Bradford's AFV News web site: http://www.afvnews.ca/ (http://www.afvnews.ca/%29:)

Rgr that Fabfire. I've been wanting to do some Merdc skins for ages, but haven't gotten to them because other textures always seem to take priority. I think the Merdc scheme would work well. The wehrmacht in WW2 had some pretty innovative schemes IMO. They were for the most part unit-specific and so that brought very diverse differences in patterns.
Fabfire
09-07-2006, 10:09 PM
Absolutely. Yes. I am toying with the idea of a M1 with the MERDC pattern...
The Tiger battalions had some awesome patterns - and then there are the markings... The most spetacular was the "Kinght on a Charger" used by sPzAbt.505 - it was adopted by Panzerbatallion 33, of the Bundeswehr...

Thanks guys!
I started this a few months ago but stopped to work on other skins. It's taken awhile in Photoshop to come up with a process to make it fairly easy to do instead of drawing rectangles and shapes from scratch. Now that I've figured it out, it's not so labor-intensive. I did it using a combination of VanDerLee's Camouflage filter along with the Pixelate and Mosaic filters. The trick was coming up with the right sequence.

The Abrams digital camo pattern is so effective... That quote "You are either part of the problem, the solution, or the landscape" doesn't apply anymore, as the landscape can be now a BIG part of the problem - or the solution, if you are lucky enough too be in a M1A1 Abrams with Scorp's digital camo...

Hey Zipuli, thanks!
I guess it's a continuous process. As I come up with new or better features I'm tempted to update everything. I have to finish my M1 digital camo skin next and get that done. It's a vicous cycle of neverending skin work. LOL!
After I finish the M1 I am going to update my M901 and Fist-V desert pattern. I promised somebody some Netherlands patterns for the leos.....on and on and on it goes.

Hey, just tested the newest Leo1 more, and the skin is very good, love the weathering and mud (the best so far!), and not bad nets at all (much better than the last one that seemed to float a bit), but the red glass looks a bit funny - maybe it works better in desert? Also I noticed that the gaps on the the commander's and loader's hatch-sides (you know what I mean??) look red and glassy. Maybe tweak those a bit for next version? :) Keep them coming!
I know what you mean by the neverending work! It's gotten to my head too :P

Thanks for being so cool about it mate - I actually DL'd a Leo 1 tex from the site just to have a look at it (I've done done VBS repainting before) and HOLY COW! That IS a complicated texture to paint! My deepest respect to you and other painters for producing such high quality stuff.

No prob and thanks. Once you have a template, it's not that bad. The trick is if you come up with a pattern from scratch as far as getting it all to line up properly. That part is what takes time. I told Oystein I'd work on some Norwegien patterns too, which I should start soon, so I'll be giving my drawing tablet a workout.

Whoah. Um... what matters is... the LOCATION OF THE BITE and how swollen it's gotten. YEOW!
I'm lucky... my face came about a foot from an actual Black Widow but for some reason I chose to focus my eyes close and saw it. Did not scare me until I learned that their venom is more potent than a rattlesnake. Got the leech treatment and parasites in the Florida Phase of Ranger school. Georgia's full of 'dem nasties. Not as scary as a Saudi desert camel spider though.
What about the poison? They use a seringe and pull it out? Hope it didn't fester too bad. Hang in there. At least you're not in the field. :)

You've got my deepest sympathies. Mine turned 13 in April and I STILL have nightmares about her baby years!
One good cure is pour a stiff shot of whiskey (only the best quality Scotch will do). Rub a little bit on her gums and it'll numb the pain for her.
...... And if that doesn't work down the rest of it yourself...... That will numb her pain for you!! :wink2:

She is a little angel when she's asleep, and when she wakes up she turns into a wraith, a demon, a hellion of such evil cunning and poor temperament that anything she touches turns to ashes. The other day I caught her pummeling her NINE year old brother because he didn't want her to have one of his toys. I wouldn't change her one bit. :smilelove-1: She's actually quite docile most of the time, except when teething or sleep-deprived.
I am *hoping* to have the AS1 complete or something close to that this weekend. The Norwegian skins are gonna take a bit longer because it's a pain in the arse to line up the camo patterns.

LOL. Maybe she will get along with a carrer in the military. If she can beat up her nine year old brother now, just imagine what she will be capable of in say, 20 years from now? Actually, this is just natural during the teething. My niece (which is nine years old now) was much the same - an angel, but could turn into a small Katrina given the same conditions your daughter is enduring now.

Really nice looking, Scorp! Wow. Three different skins, for woodland, winter and desert... I'm in Heaven!
An outstanding work, Scorp! Not to mention "Amorgeddon" and all the Leos and such...
Hey! I think know that tank with the latest plow texture. Is it, by any chance, one of mine? Jeez, I'm really in Heaven!

That's right, you better run! LOL! Just kidding! In due time. I'd like to see multiple skins for the CV90 series.
Btw, BB, the mineplow and roller are part of the same image.
Oh, almost forgot: I found a minor thing in the AS1 texture I forgot (the tail lights and reflectors on the rear mudflaps), but they are now fixed. I'll upload the new texture soon. Sorry for the inconvenience.

As requested by Daskal, I'm putting together a few desert skins for the Leo2A5. This will be a quickie. But a couple of different patterns packed together should whet the appetite until Rogue Snake's uber template is finished.

I've sent the quick and dirty Leo2A FIVE desert pack to the upload section.
I've mislabled the title 2A6 because it's hard to concentrate with 2 screaming kids and the wife screaming at them. The pack contains 3 schemes, 1 desert ambush, and 2 that are of the "achtung" style of some of my earlier leopard 1's.

Whooah! I really want those skins... Hey, looks like the family life is going allright, Scorp! When they are silent is the real sign of trouble... :)
I'll look for the A6 (which is one of my SB wet dreams) - no problem at all.:clin:

For the next 3 weeks work is going to be my priority. I have lots to do and most likely will be working weekends, so no skin updates for the time being.
These projects are currently active and in order of priority:
Leo1 Norwegian skins, woodland and winter
M1A1 Digital fractal pattern
Hi-res M2A2 template

Believe me, I'd rather be working on skins, work is gonna just suck over the next couple of weeks. After I get those done I'll probably take a needed break from skinning to work on some maps.

You do just that. Take a much needed break then return to something new.

Gentlemen!!!
Thanks for the kind words! I survived the exhibit transition from hell! I have a number of things to get finished for Xmas. I have to finish a model I'm building for a contest that is due Dec. 31st. After that I'm going back to the land of Photoshop with my Wacom tablet to pick up where I left off, where ever that is....oh, yeah, Norwegian Leo.
Cheers and happy holidays!!!
Scorp

Hey thanks guys!
Santa was kind enough to bring me a 6.1 megapixel camera for Xmas that takes REALLY nice photos. I'll have to snap some pics of my armor and sci-fi model collection.
Anyway This weekend I'll be back to work on those Norwegian skins for Oystein and whoever else wants them.
