100kph! And guys are compaining about trying to hit the BRDM in another thread regarding the range... LOL Some of these vehicles and a nice LAV would make some kool additions to SB (dare I say it; even as uncrewable vehicles). Just trying to track something like that and bring it under fire...

looking at south africas position that would be an amazing vehicle. most of its possible enemies wouldn't be able to mount much of an armoured force, so a light fast agile vehicle that packs a punch would be perfect.
how about an up gunned LAV III/ IV? 105 mm low recoil gun, 100kmph road speed, 750 km on a full tank. and it floats on water...

wheeled fighting vehicles are the ideal semi-tank. most would be a match for older modle tanks such as t-55's and some would be much more. they offer an ideal infantry support weapon in the form of their large calibre guns. the downside is their lack of armour, but in the LAV's case there are many add ons. also i have seen too many pics of wheeled vehicles with the wheels blown out. apparantly the russians absolutely hated them in afghanistan, and most refused to ride inside them even on a cold day.

imagine having to deal with the brdm not only outrunning your gunner, but flinging armour pearcing shells back at you while its on the run...
heres an austrian toy....
the heavy infantry fire support/recon PANDUR
currently 6 wheeled, but 8 wheel versions are already in the works...
road speed 110kmph, range 650km, 90mm main gun. its lack of armour can be offset by the instilation of various armour upgrade kits, it is fully heat insulated to reduce heat signature to an absolute minimum.
light, agile, small, and packs a punch at short notice on demand.

and this one would have to be the ultimate....
the french VEXTRA recon vehicle.
brand new 105 mm gun that fires the full range of current nato shells including APFSDS rounds. the gun is heavily stabilised allowing for deadly accurate fire at high speeds, it has the same battlefield management system as the leclerc and is designed to work closely with the more heavily built tank. it is also equiped with 80mm mortars facing several directions. it has all the new gizmos, many are the same as in the leclerc, including a new thermal imager and a sophisticated balistics computer. its speed is 110kmph on road and it has a range of up to 800km. its armour protects it from mid calibre heavy machine guns, and a reactive kit provides high calibre maching gun, rpg and anti tank rocket protection. this ones as good as it gets without being in a leclerc. and twice the speed.

I believe it is.
You can get a better look at the entire vehicle in this video clip (7.5MB) (http://whq-files.de/filme/exf8x8-01.avi). (Right click, SAVE AS to download.)

the stryker is a modified LAV. i think it can be fitted with a 105 mm stabilized gun if i am correct, but i can't find a pic of it with the gun or turret.
edit:

http://www-cgsc.army.mil/milrev/english/MayJun02/dunn.asp calls it a stryker, while other sites said the same trial is on a LAV. i don't know either vehicle well enough to say which it is...

There are seemingly endless discussions about the Stryker over at http://www.Tank-Net.org
...naming vehicles after porn stars - sheesh... big cats, that's a cool fashion. Naming them after generals - acceptable. But this? Who'd want to mount Stryker? :o

i think naming a vehilce after a porn star would be entirely appropriate.
people forget the contribution they have made to american war efforts in the past...
what was it... the USO? where the stars and pinup girls toured battle zones and did their act for the soldiers...

hmmm... there's one way to halt these things while on the run.
shoot off their wheels with machine gun fire.
commander takes out the wheels, and the gunner punches a hole in the armour. in theory....

if you have a heavy enough machine gun and theres no extra armour (as pictured) you could just shoot up the crew.
but seriously, i am sure the ai controlled tanks in SB do this sometimes on BRDM's? sometimes they immobilize them, then let off a heat, other times the heat isn't necessary?? correct me if i am wrong as it seems to only be ai controlled tanks that do it...

You're joking right?I may be joking about the origin of this vehicle's name, but the coincidence is hardly deniable. ;)
Maybe it's like the Nissan "Pajero" SUV which sells well in many countries, and abysmally in Spanish speaking regions since it translates to "wanker". :o

Not that fast, and a bit patriotic, but still...
CV90120
Standard MBT firepower (gun and fire control, including TIS, LRF, stabilisation, etc.)
Light-medium armour
Good mobility off road due to low ground pressure (compared to MBT) and a fair top speed.

My usuall vehicle is a Cougar and they are fast. :) But I belive that wheeled veh's in general are harder on the crew so speed in something not wanted over tatical movement :( .Now road moves are completly different, Our unit is moving our veh's now by flatbead but has and will drive them to our trg area on the split HWY. They can do 100 KPH and more, (as long as I'm not gettin scared.) :o Been flipped 2 times and the last one is the result of recent surgery and recovery.
I think there well suited for some tasks and fit well into manouver warefare as we know it today. There are many good veh's out there for the time frame of SteelBeasts and we can only hope some will get into the sim. I would like to see: Ferrets,FOX(scout car)ERC90,AMX10,Luchs,Mowags,Saxon,VAB,Fuchs,LAV25 ,BTR60,70,OT64 Skot.
I woud say all fall into the time we are playing in now. Missions with only wheeled vehs would be cool/different and led to much faster movement.Of course a thrown track would become a flat tire, heheheheh. :casstet:
