View Full Version : Fording Rivers

I know this is probably a Noob question, but I'm totally stumped with this:

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I rarely find it possible to ford a river or stream without drowning the tank ("Coax is down!" means "We have a slight leak!").

These are always places where it appears I'm supposed to ford a river (the road goes into the river and comes out the other side) but I can't. Or, even if I can, my AI vehicles drown themselves. I hit Shift when I'm lining up my route on the road, so it's not as though I'm wandering off the track.

If there's no AVLB handy, how do I get to the other side?

you are probleby playing a converted SB1 scenario or a poor map creation...

There should be a brigde there or it should be fordable..

you can guess if a small river is fordable or not, if it has shallow banks and hardly the lenght of a tank in with it should work to ford, but if it has step banks it will not work, you will drown the tank there.

But there is a limit in the game that gives the situation that if you can lay a bridge there you can ford there without the bridge...

Exeptions are steep banks situations where a bridgelayer can lay down a bridge to cross when a tank would get stuck and drown.

I can only guess you are playing a SB1 scenario that was not converted for Pro PE. See the thread in the sce design forum (How to convert SB1 scenarios to Pro PE) about how to do this - the process will add the bridges for you.

Ah, Sean & KT, that has to be it. That also probably explains why I've seen tanks go into water without even attempting to avoid it.

That's a great video, BTW.

Thanks, guys!

It's a known issue, HotTom - SBP has killer water that gets tanks stuck if the body of water is wider than a tank is wide between the tracks, roughly estimated. even a small puddle eventually could get you stuck, even supposed amphibious tanks. Use bridges at all costs, and don'T get them crowded, place waypoints that way that they are not caught between the two stone walls beginnings on both banks.

and take care if fighting near a small river, or whatever, in battle positions tanks move by themselves a bit to seek cover - and could reverse into water and get stuck. I stopped counting how many tanks I have lost that way so far. The AI does not know any water.

when driving near water, don't crowd a given piece of ground, for traffic jams again could make tanks evade into the water and drown.

Golden rules: never assume that there are fordable banks in SBP, I got pulled out of action by even small rivers and veryx shallow beaches, so keep a good distance away from water ;) Eventually repaint the map and kill water obstacles if they have no important tactcial meaning for the mission you play.
