What is the multiplayer situation like in the US? Is there a lot of players to hook up with? Are there alot of games?

Thanks for any information,
John

I understand quality, but AI can only go so far. I'm not looking for a 100 people, but just enough to make it interesting.

I've had the game a month now. And yet to have a multiplayer session. Thing is, theres no dedicated servers waiting out there for ppl to just join up. It all has to be kinda coordinated. And the usual variables, times zones, versions, etc. etc. make it very hard for a an already very small community. When I went into SB chat to setup game, I was the only one in the US, and one of only three guys with SB PE. To give you an idea.

Star80,

What do you think of the game without multiplayer?

I've done quite a bit of offline and some limited MP sessions.

Firstly, if you can hook up with a couple of guys online, SBPro seems to me to be one of the most stable I've come across. As with all online sessions though, the quality of your experience will in a large part depend on the guys you play with.

Offline, a lot depends on the skill of the designer that made the mission you're playing. When they've taken care over the AI triggers and routing the AI is very challenging. Obviously though, if they haven't the mission is a poor experience. Fortunately I've had very few of those. The mission editor is a very powerful tool and not too hard to use once you get used to it. There's some good tutorials available for it online and the manual will get you up and running with it very quickly.

In game, I often find it a very intense experience, especially when the arty starts flying. The sound is great. It's one of the few sims I've come across that can actually make me sweat at times. Obviously though, these are my personal opinions and I can't guarentee you anything, but if you get it and enjoy it as much as I do, you'll consider it money well spent.

I totally agree with Jesters comments, I've yet to try MP, but this is really the best money I have ever spent on any sim/game software, I just love it, and as someone else posted on the forums lately my only complaint is that it's making me a bit of an insomiac, Nils you've got a lot to answer for :)

I say buy it you won't regret it, but then again I'm biased, I've been sucked in and am unlikely to ever see the light of day again !!!!!!

I really enjoy the sim, but in my opinion a stronger multiplayer community will make it even more enjoyable. SP is ok, but I am teamwork driven, hell I'd even rather share a tank than just play with someone else on a map.

It's got a learning curve to it. But, I found LOMAC to be a much harder sim to learn. Just getting to the battle is a 30 min sweat session. But, Thats flght sim versus Tank sim. SB is complex, sure and running up to the front like your playing BF2 would make it seem much simpler, but you wont last long with dem tactics. And thats the object of SB, tactics and victory.

But, Yes Its is worth the money.

In almost every other online game it goes roughly as follows:

1. Go multiplayer find server
2. Meet people make friendships join a clan
3. Perfect teamwork

Steel Beast:
Is almost the exact oposite. Save, Buy, Learn the curve, try to meet ppl, You might get lucky and find enough folks that do it when and as often that you do. Oh and speak the same language. Join a MP session.

I say get it asap so I have someone to play with LOL!

Star 80, have you ever logged in on TS?
atleast i have never seen you there and I'm one of the more frequent users, so i don't know why your complaining about the multiplayer community. Just log in on the damn TS server and most of the time there are a bunch of guys willing to play.

The community is small, I admit that but its one of the best i've ever been involved in. The size also makes it much more personal and fun since you get to know most of the guys much better.

So just hop on in and get ready for some fun

Just got off MP. Wow that was 10x tougher than fighting just AI.

Great game hosted by SEAN. Again, I want to make clear to all us MP noobs. There are some very cool ppl here. For a little community some people here really makes up through being very helpfull and patient. Thats another plus to consider while your savin for that purchase.
