View Full Version : Anyway to change Ammo load as the Gunner?

I bought SBProPE back in March, but haven't been really able to get into it until recently.

I was playing the M1A1 Instant Action last night as the gunner, and was doing decent (not well, but not poorly). I got the order from the TC "PC, fire, fire HEAT." I KOed the BRDM-2 he directed me towards with the loaded sabot, and I heard the TC unbutton (which I thought was wierd.... there are 3 or 4 tanks and a couple APCs out there, why would he unbutton?). The loader yelled "HEAT Up!" and I lased in on a T-80. I fired, and suddenly the screen shook as we took a hit. No damage.... but the TC was killed. So now I have a reinforced platoon of T-80s and T-72s, and all I can fire is freaking HEAT rounds. I lobbed about 10 more shells, scoring 7 hits, and I killed 2 BRDMs and a T-72, but couldn't knock out (though I think I may have damaged the track) of the T-80s.

So, my question. When playing as the gunner, if the TC gets killed or otherwise incapacitated (or if I cannot go into the TC station when that happens, ala instant action), is there anyway I can order the loader to load a new type of round? I looked through the manual and tutorial, but the only hotkeys I see are Insert and Delete which order loading from the TC station, but simply index the rounds at the gunner's station.

Thanks!

Nope. Can't change it, as it's not the gunner's job to declare ammo types.

Interesting point about the Instant Action, it's a unique problem though.

There's an item on The List about proper configuration for three-man crews.

Ok, thanks!

I always knew it was the TC's job, but it just seemed to me (although, I am a college student, not military) that if the TC is hit, the gunner is the next in the command chain, and thus in theory would need to call ammo types to the loader (in that eventuality).

Oh well, just thought I'd ask. Thanks again!

Wasn't there an option that rapid two-times-clicking the ammo selection switch will get the inserted round immediately changed with the newly selected one? Think I red that in the manual. Never use that feature, so I am not sure.

The feature is there but only works from the TC's position and unfortunately it dosen't function on the M1. :( By the by, in RL (in the U.S. Army at least) it is possible for the gunner to change ammo type during an engagement by announcing "On the way, load Heat/Sabot" but only if a "Fire and ajust" command has been given. Generally you'd do this if the TC is gettin' busy with the .50...

Tankerace has a point - if the TC's gone, command authority would go to the gunner. Well, it's a rare case, fortunately.

Not if you've scraped the TC off with a tree to get him to stop pulling you off targets....

Not that rare: With the very rare case of a 'fire and adjust', the command authority officially stays with the TC's seat. If the TC is disabled, they just configure for three-man-crew by dragging his limp body down to the gunner's seat, and the gunner hops up top to the TC's seat and guns from there, where he can see things outside the hatch. Similarly if the loader's gone, the gunner moves out of the gunner's seat.

Item added to list last March, but low priority.
