Hi,

I'm a proud new SB Pro PE owner, and have gone through all the tutorials for the M1A1. I am having some difficulties being the TC. I can search for targets OK, the binoculars help a bit. However, I am finding it hard to direct the gunner to the target once I find it, because I have no correlation of where the cannon is while I am searching.

Can anyone give me some advice on how you do it?

Thanks in advance!

1. Look at the canon.
2. In the bottom right corner there is a tank diagram. The little white cross is where you, as the TC, are looking - line up the canon on the diagram with that.

Press and hold keystroke P - you override the gunner and take the command over gun/turret - move the gun using the mouse until gunner reports "Identified!". Release the "P" and the gunner will take the gun again and be able to fire at target.

If you use the setting "Low" in "Realism", you also get a crosshair as commander to help out with the aiming.

Don't forget your joystick hatup > Gun to Peri, or hatdown > Peri to gun.

..Also the shift-arrows to traverse turret towards forwards/port/starboard/rear postion.

Thanks for all the responses until now. I understand the technical part of how to override the gunner, etc. what I am struggling with is to slew the gun to the target once I found something on the binoculars.
Regarding the hat down ->Gun to Peri, I am having no luck with this, instead of moving the gun to the periscope, it changes my view to exactly 180 degrees from the gun's heading. Is this due to using Hard difficulty?

Thanks

If you are using M1, there's no Peri, so it will not work :)

Yes, and I gave you the advice for this above - use the "P" keystroke. This can be used in the M1A1 without any peri but with eyeview, vision blocks or binocular-view.

Also,

try the Leo 2a4 as you can use the periscope with it. I think you'll find the experience similar to what m1a2/m1a2 SEP guys have now. Yes, it's not an Abrams, but the Leos are very satisfying to command.

Badly, it lacks of scan rear.. (Can't engage rear target)

Designating targets on the M1 takes some practice but here's a tip:

The easiest way to line up the gunner is to slew the turret so the target between the right side of the gun tube and the left side of the "dog house" (i.e. sight assembly) or (if the .50 cal is in it's normal 12 o'clock position) you can simply point the barrel of the .50 cal at the target. Oh, and you might try to avoid staying in your binos while slewing, since it can be difficult to keep your eyes on the target and the turret clock simultaneously.

Simple things first: Select medium or low realism to get an indicator for where the gun is pointing at/what the gunner can see while you override him. That will make it a lot easier to get the hang of it. Once that you have acquired some practice you can switch to higher realism modes.

Maybe a bit OT but about the only time I use the Binos is in Turret down positions. -( for me rare, I'm always in F6..)

I find the action so bloody fast paced that if I'm scaning for targets, its always thru the TIS, searching for those damn hotspots. No time to duck into the turret and swing into the Co or Gunners sights-those bloody T-80s are fast!.

With all the High mag. /Thermal systems in modern MBTs are Binos a relic in the heat of battle..?

The only problem with the TC is it's broke down to 4 computer commands-you can't scan like you would really.Just play a map a few times with no enemy and roll freely from the tc hatch-then do it with enemy once you know the terrain.

I must admit that whilst I am a big fan of the M1A1 I have found myself drawn to the Leo2 A5 as my tank of Choice.

This is probably due to the fact that as far as being a TC is concerned this is the nearest thing to commanding a CR2.

Being able to scan independently from the gunner with a sight that will swing the main gun to the commanders sight. Engaging targets is sped up no end.

Commanding the M1A1 is lost on me. I spend my whole time in the commanders seat.

In the CR2 it is possible to do everything the gunner does from the commanders seat, ie lase etc. Is this poss in the Leo 2 A5?

Yes, you can anything the gunner do, if you are in the proper mode.
I use the Leo2A5 too, because it's close to Leclerc too (it lacks an magnification to gunner day sight, and an semi-automatic tracking)

At least in 2A4 there's no dynamic lead for commander... neither was in Strv 122 if I remember right and that would mean that no dy-lead for 2A5 commander either? So he can lase etc. but no dynamic lead in any case...

Yes your right, even in gunner view, he has not dynamic lead. He has to correct himself for moving target.

Dynamic lead is achieved using button 3 on the joystick. Seems to work well.
I spent some time going through the Leo2A5 tutorials.

I use a thrustmapper Joy pad which can be remapped which works really well with SB. has 12 buttons which means I can flick between Thermal and visual, main and coax etc without touching the keyboard - almost like being back in my CR2!
