Hi there,
I'm looking for a tool that's make it possible to do some maps that are like the real world out there. Can anybody give me a good hint....
Switzerland is not as flat as SB ;)
Thanks for the help...

And if I can do some maps from real world, then I would put them on the net, for anybody who is interested....

The maps supplied with SB are all real world maps. You can generally tell where they were taken from by the height map name.

As for making your own height maps - well - it is a very difficult and time consuming process and for many reasons often discussed in many other threads custom height maps are in general not well received and rarely used.

If you really want to do maps then use the map editor to create terrain maps and distribute them. That is something that not many have done but I suspect would be very well received. Open a height map and populate it with trees, forests, roads, building etc - the whole darn thing (which can be huge). Save it (I suggest using this convention (TER) Name of Map) and then go to your SB/maps/terrain directory, find the new terrain map, zip it up and post it. Many scenario makers would be appreciative - you might even attract some would be scenario makers who've never done one because they hate working with maps.

Good Luck and have fun.

Great suggestion Werewolf! I hate making terrain maps most of the time. Only when i need something real specific do I even bother with them right now. They cna just be SO time consuming to get to look right and nice. Furthermore I think I might very well suck at it ;)

Another thing is that it good terrain can be real inspiring for sce designers... If you are fresh out of ideas sometimes, just the right terrain will give a person that spark of imagination to carry on.... ;)

Thanks for your advice ... It's rights the maps from SB are from a real world, but this is not like my world looks like. I would like to implement highways, railroadtracks, bridges, industrial built-up area, deep valleys, and this on a scale like here: evey 4 km a village or a town....
One point is to be able to change the hights in the maps of SB.

sure I will do like you said: I will open some height maps and populate them. And I will show you the result before putting them on the net.

Thanks again

May I ask with what kind of software you do the maps?

Thanks

That's a grand ambition unfortunately it isn't possible with SB to put all those things you listed above on a map. Open the map editor and you'll know immediately what's available.

Maybe with SB2 one will be able to put all that stuff you wish on a map. We'll just have to wait and see.
