Last night I tried to join an online game. When I entered the lobby all I saw was the host and we both had a 0 ping. Then I got a green network overloaded warning and was dropped. I have the proper port forwarded on my router but realized that I had Norton Antivirus running in the background but even after turning off the firewall and the autoprotection. I still couldn't join.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks.

Best to turn Norton off while trying to play multiplayer. Not only will it screw with your connection but will rob your computer of needed ram while the game is operative.

Norton and other antivirus and firewall programs can be set to let SB or other programs to run without problems. I would not recommend to turn these off because they have a function to protect the computer from other threats.
If you could join to the assembly area and then was kicked out, the problem is probably not the antivirus/firewall.

>>Totally, and IMHO, I would get rid of Norton asap, as not only does it rob you of ram, but its engine is the slowest in the Industry. My PC bud, said he wouldn't give Norton to his worst enemy because of how it can, does, bog down ones PC while downloading/updating (takes forever) along with running in the background just gums up the works, so to speak.
Long ago, he recommended "PC-cillin Anti-virus" (2006) saying how great their engine was, and is, and the downloads are "fast" along with it running in the background causes no slowdowns. But, for any gaming, single play, or online MP, I do turn it off (disable it) along with my Counter Spy program.
FTR, no bugs, worrms, trogins or bad cookies have ever made it thru both these great Anti-virus and spyware programs since 2003, when he told me to get rid of the Norton and Spydoctor because of this or that.. You get what you pay for, and what you don't pay for (the freebies online).

I'm not a Norton Fanboi, but I've used it for many, many years while playing flight sims on line with no problems (haven't tried SB on line yet). I know a lot of people criticize it, but until it gives me a reason to complain I won't. I get very high pings and very fast downloads with Norton running in the background. OTOH, I've never tried anything else, so I can't compare.
Downloads: Set your updates for manual. Yes, if an auto update arrives while you're playing on line it will cause you problems. But if you make them manual, that can't happen.
Firewall: If you're using Norton's firewall, make sure your MS Windows firewall is disabled. Norton tells you this and it's true. If both firewalls are up, you will have problems. Don't EVER do anything on line without one firewall in place (I learned the hard way a few years ago). If a host asks you to disable all your firewalls, ask him his address so you can send him the de-worming bill from your computer repair shop :)
Finally, I see the term "router" in you post. Except with a laptop, why people use routers is a mystery to me. If you look in any sim forum (including SB) you almost certainly see a sticky on how to set up your ports for routers. I'd be willing to bet your problem is with your router, not your anti-virus system.
Good luck! I know it's frustrating. If you're trying to figure it out by trial-and-error, my best advice is to only tweak one thing at a time and then test so you'll know the solution when you find it (Versus: "Well, gosh, one of those 20 adjustments I made worked but I don't know which one").

I use norton and there are no problems whatsoever. Your problem is related to other configuration. Please search the forum for most common problems in MP.

Because that stops worms dead unless you've sat yourself in the DMZ or you forwarded ports which are vulnerable to attack. In addition, it allows you to host many PCs on one IP, and allows you to turn off the firewall etc. on your own PC (So, as long as you're not browsing pr0n, for the most part, you ought to be ok)
