Well, i'm talking about very short range engagement in M1s, i.e no more than 100 meters.
I was in an Abrams looking for some targets to shot. In the TC position, a T-72 appeared in sight at no more than 100 meters. I overode the gunner to lead the gun to the target (i was unbutommed so i lead it approximatly, but the gunner didn't see anything, probably because he was looking in the TIS view and the tank wasn't in the exact gunner's field of vision. So i took the gunner position to shoot the tank by myself. i tried the GPS, but no way to aim and shot, and the same for the GAS. The main gun didnt fire at all. Of course, the T-72 saw me and shoot me 10 long seconds after being spotted.

So here is the problem, in the TC position, if the gunner would have look in the bloc view (F4), he would probably have seen his target and shot it. Mayble you should add a way to say the gunner the target is a long or short range engagement.
Concerning myself in the gunner position, im almost sure i wasn't able to shoot simply because i forgot to hit the T key (identified). I always forget to do so. Am I right?

This is really hard to make emergency short range engagement with the M1.
Any comment?

Never had that with the gunner not seeing the target, but I often have problems at short range (<approx 500m) when I'm in the gunner's position in the Leo2 A5.

Quite often with a short range target, when I pull the trigger nothing happens. Sometimes shifting to battlesight mode (backspace key) sorts it out. Occassionally the only way I can get the gun to fire is to swap to manual or emergency mode. If this happens I'm usually dead before I get a shot off.

In your particular case though, hitting the backspace key from the TC's position will order the gunner to start a battlesight engagement (and as such should tell the AI it's a close range target).
