Do they cause damage? M1 Tutorial 19a says "no" but I once did an artillery spotting (tutorial) mission where I killed the target (a truck) using my (smoke) spotting round.. inquiring minds want to know..

<nitpick>

BTW.. M1 Tutorial 19a

ICM submunitions are so deadly less because of the individual bomblet's explosive power, but because there are so many of them evenly distributed over the area. This increases both the fragmentation density to fight infantry asn well as the likelihood of hitting the top of a vehicle. Since the damage model in Steel Beasts assumes the employment of shaped charge bomblets with about 45mm penetration power, most vehicles have a serious problem when confronted with an ICM barrage.

Also

20 years after the introduction of thermal imagers and their growing world wide proliferation multi spectral smoke is becoming more and more popular (and may be present in Steel Beasts based on the scenario settings).

But right now (and also with the upgrade) we do not have multispectral arty-delivered smoke, right?

the smoke round probably smashed through the drivers windscreen and blew up in his face.

Which gave him a strong incentive to give up smoking no doubt.

While Al has never told me explicitly that smoke can now have a damage value assigned to it, I did tell Al that the WP round for the Leo 1 was supposed to have about a third or half of the HESH round's HE value (not the least because of the significant incendiary value). Maybe he (rightfully) interpreted this in a way that he also assigned a limited lethality to artillery smoke rounds.
