:( Hey all.. My HD took a shit after 3yrs and it will take a week for a replacement HD to get here and then have to have friend install and re-program everthing.. I lost all my DL scenarios, but some of you have them from my hosting.. so this should be easy problem to solve.. However, as some of you know, I'm not PC techy.. and even though my friend has loaned me this tower that I'm using as I write, I have had problems with it and may not be able to continue to post in forum or talk in Chat, and worst, not be able to engage in O-L MP battle.. I really feel like a prisoneer cut off from the world..
I'am under a black cloud.. and may not be out of the woods yet, and will take all the luck you guys can give, but my spirits are holding (for a while) due to a glorious battle Victory in Ghost Town just hours before the crippling hit and capture occured..
One last thing: I'm going to get a new tower and system for SB2 (in the near future) and would appreciate any advise on what to get.. Windows, sound card, Ram, processor, etc.. (the works) .. and hopefully stave off this problem with work PC and game PC once joined.. seperated.. thanks guys... Ls :casstet:

To bad Lonestar....
My own reflection is that you receive more for the money if you buy a noname computer than a branded computer. Even the maintanence is easier on nonames, oops forgot you weren't that handy ;)!!!
I will try to make a "shoppingguide" to you:
Atleast 2.0 ghz CPU
Atleast 512 mb RAM preferably DDRam
80 GB HD
Motherboard with highspeed buses.
A highend videocard (GeForce 4 or similar)
CD-Recorders and CD-ReWriters (Plextor)
DVD player
5.1 Soundcard
19" Screen
I have propably missed something but with the help from the community it will be added! :)
Good luck LS hope to see you soon in MP land!!!

Starting point is what you want to do, for how many years & your budget.
Generic - I would agree that going generic is the best bang for your buck.
Lease - If you don't want to hassle with service issues, leasing from Dell & etc is a good way to go if you don't want any down time. When leasing a package you need to find out what's inside to make sure it works for your needs. How easy it is to get the an upgraded system & etc. Make them do the work but no downtime.
Brand Name - brand name PC's are great but you pay for the name. Also, alot of the hardware is motherboard specific which in most cases doesn't let you upgrade certain hardware like hard drives, video cards, RAM & etc without going back to the manufacturers rep. Gets expensive & limits expandibility.

For Steel Beasts 2, the following configuration should be just fine:
1 GHz CPU or better (but even 600MHz should do the trick for most scenarios)
GeForce 4 Ti 4200, 64MB version (which has faster RAM than the 128MByte version, and is cheaper at the same time)
However, the Geforce 4 generation only will make sense if your monitor supports screen resolutions in excess of 1200x1024 (SXGA), otherwise even a GeForce 4MX or a GeForce 3 will be totally sufficient
128 MByte RAM for all Windows versions except XP, 256 MByte won't hurt though.
Unless you're interested in digital video editing, a 40 GByte Harddisk will be totally sufficient. Even 20 GByte are hard to fill if you don't have a scanner and if you just have two handful of games and other software applications installed. No need to go overboard here.
You may want to consider a CD-RW drive for regular backups, though. That way you can save your downloaded SB scenario files and other stuff on CD-ROM to be on the safe side next time your harddisk fails. :casstet:
