The Bushmaster - like the Dingo - is based on the Unimog chassis along with the South-African V-shaped belly profile for better mine protection. The Bushmaster however (I think) is larger and has more equipment by default loaded especially for dry/hot environments and long phases of autonomy (e.g. lots of water on board).
Ultimately it serves a similar role - mine and bullet protected wheeled transportation for squad-sized forces.

the bushmaster is a battlefield limo. its got a cooled water dispenser, airconditioning, individual rally-style seats for all passengers, with pads for the side-mounted soldiers to brace themselves against, as well as 4-point seatbelts for all crewmembers.
it carries 9 soldiers, including the driver and gunner, weights around 12.500kg.
its a huge vehicle too, 2.6m to the roof
and its armed with 2 7.62mm M240 machine guns.

its 'real' name is the 'combat winnebago' within army circles :)
. AFAIK the HNA restructure has equipped the following with bushmaster:
B Sqdrn 3/4 CAV will provide protected mobility to the townsville based 3bde (formerly
m113 equipped)
Elements of 6RAR in 7BDE will retain bushmaster IMVs
5/7 Mech and 3RAR Mech (formerly para) will be equipped with the m114as3s/4s AND bushmasters(probably in their b ech's?)
Reserve unit 12/16th Hunter River Lancers will provide protected lift with bushmasters also.(formerly m113)
In the australian setup, deja, the armament is 2x MAG58 (7.62mm) although im pretty sure it can be mounted with F89Minimi (5.56mm LSW) alternatively.
Depending on the unit using them they will be contain differing 'crew' For instance 3/4cav and 12/16 Hunter river lancers would not have 9 man sections organic to the vehicle as they are lift capability FOR their respective bdes while 5/7 and 3 mech and 6RAR would probly have more permanent section assignments to the vehicles as they organic lift for those mech/motorised infantry BNs

the FN mag58 is identical to the M240. m240 is the US designation for the belgian designed gun, and i've gotten used to calling it that.
the FN minimi is the M249 SAW in US designation.

ahh well that makes sense then :)
are they still exactly the same weapon? i know for example the US version of the Minimi is slightly different to the AUS version (optics and stock)

Here's that Gila. IMHO this is the best vehicle to run around in Iraq. I would like a couple of those bushmasters tho hehe :o)

Regarding the Minimi vs SAW / M240 vs MAG58.
The American weapons have some mods that included head shields over the barrel, which you can have to yourselves as I don't want to mess around more than I have to when switching hot barrels. As far as the guts of the weapons are concerned though.. they are pretty much the same AFAIK.
The Australian versions are much closer, if not identical to the original FN pattern sans the scope on the Minimi.
