I fire a few shots with M1, Leo or PC and the LRF is damaged. I don`t know why. Maybe i press it to often?

...that could well be the case.
Fire it to often=>overheat=>laser burn out

AFAIK Leos and most contemporary M1s donīt suffer a burn out, the LRF just takes a forced pause. Are you sure your LRF was really damaged? Maybe it was just cooling down, which takes a few (10-30?) seconds.

The M1 LRF as modelled is the sort that can burn out.

Yes, current 'issue' LRFs are of the sort that just shut down for a bit to cool off, but there's absolutely no way of knowing what sort is in your tank until you actually burn it out/shut it down. As a result, you always treat it as if you can burn it out, so the modelling here isn't a problem.

The Leo will shut down in the sim, but return eventually.

Damn protective mode.

Which idiot came up with that idea?

Damn protective mode.

Which idiot came up with that idea?

The same idiot who foresaw that there would be no end to gunners popping little birds off trees, burning butt cheeks of their COs or burning holes to some poor grunt's leather gloves, if gunner could use the LRF like a mini-gun.

And thats a bad thing?

Funny, thought the idea behind a tank was to kill stuff, if you run out of ammo at least you can inconvenience the enemy.

You have to be pressing it to often. According to the TM you aren't suppose to lase more than like 3 times in 15 or 30 secs which is total bullshit. Unfortunatly they will burn out if used to often. The maditory pause in the Leo is good in theory, but in actual combat you are constantly lasing and sometimes have no time for that pause. But then again if your laser burns out then it to the GAS sight with ya! Double Edge Sword I guess. But try and lase only when you have began tracking your target and not when you first put your reticle on it. And if a stationary tank is next to another stationary tank, you shouldn't have to relase if you have sabot indexed. Even minor adjustments will send that thing flying! Hope that helped.

I have a similiar problem to this, though I'm not sure if its laser burn out.

Alot of times when I'm shooting from the gunner's station in the M1, it won't let me lase. All it will show are the blinking zeroes. It doesn't show the blinking "F" though that I get from a burned out LRF. I thought maybe I needed to just let the LRF cool off, but after a good minute of waiting, still nothing. However, as soon as I switch to the TC's position and order my AI gunner to fire, he lases, gets the range, and fires just fine. Like I said, this only happens sometimes, other times its fine and I can lase and blaze to my little cadet heart's desire. Any ideas or suggestions?

If your laser does burn out, in the M1. There will be a damage indication in the upper right of the screen. Only one word comes out of my mouth when I see that ... :)

Haha, for me it's a couple of choice words. Thats the odd thing, I don't get that indicator unless I deliberately use the laser too much, a sure burnout. But sometimes I get my problem when I go to lase for the first time.

If it is blinking, that means you lazed something which is within 200m. Reposition (move forward or to the left or right) and then try again because you are hitting a tree, bush, the ground, etc.

I think that if you are lazing the sky or beyond 3990m you get the same thing also.

Also, if you are trying to fire through smoke, you'll get the 0000 from the laser, but if you let the AI gun, he will be able to engage. You can also hit the Battle Sight Engagement button (default "Backspace") for the Leo's and that will give you info for a short-range shot. Doesn't seem to work with the M1's though.

That or you can type in the range that you guess the enemy is at, but that isnt the best option...

Battlesight should work with the M1 as well (used to, for years - if it doesn't anymore it may be a bug). You can also set the battlesight range prior to engagements, e.g. type "1-5-0-0-Backspace" to set the BSGT range to 1500m. Hit Backspace later to activate the battlesight.

Ssnake,

You may be right about a bug. The M1 doesn't accept the "Battle Sight" command. The Leo 2A4 seems to work OK, but the battle sight is set to 1000 and can't be changed. The STRV-122/Leo 2A5DK won't accept a manual range. The M2/M3 seems correct, but the CV9040 & LAV-25 won't take the manual range.

Could one of the developers have a look at this? I don't know what the equipement is capable in RL, so I can't really say if there is a bug.

The BSGT feature DOES work on the M1, you just have to be in the TC's position to use it. That is the only place the button is located (TC's panel). If you are an M1 gunner (IRL and in SB Pro PE) and you want to go to BSGT range, you simply press 1200 and enter. In the real world the TC may not press the button for you and it is faster to push the button on the CCP yourself in this manner.
