Can anyone shed some light on what the Artillery Place holder is?

Looks just like a M113 inf version. I guess it could be a Mortar varient which would be very cool!!

I look forward to the answer.

Cheers

Its a template for a later feature.

It's weird, sometimes I was able to find it in the mission builder, other times I can't. What menu option did you see it in? It's like an Elvis sighting.

following your comment I have just noticed the strangness of this. You can only find the Mech Arty placeholder on the "others" list when you are changing the type of unit once it has already been established on the map.

I assume therefore that this actually does not do anything and just gives me another Pl of Mech inf?

Don't know how many dudes it gives you, but yes, does nothing.... FOR NOW.

Do we know what we are going to get in the future?

for now it's only for wargame use of SB Pro.

Froggy please do explain.

If SB is to be used for War gaming or ROC drills then it would seem an expensive way of pushing map symbols around a map.

If these are going to end up as armd mortar teams then I am slightly excited. We use to have these in M1TP2 but they used to not that effective.

As every BG comd will state - having your own Fire Support assets who can not be taken away from you are worth their weight in gold. The delivery time is also much shorter.

Are the ESim team able to confirm what these are going to be?

CharlieB, you are absolutely correct!

I've been begging for mortars ever since I started playing this sim. I'm not that familiar with their use in armor units, but in the infantry they are organic to every company's weapons platoon.

With all the emphasis on light units, the US Army even brought back that cute little 60mm for the light fighters. Very handy.

Got some defiles you can't cover with direct fire? Mortars are the solution. Don't leave home without one :)

I was just thinking of adding one section of these to complete the structure of a Calvalry Troop Company when reading this.

What if you added a section of M113, set them placeholders for Arty and then in the Blue Support dialog assign them to Priority of fire.

Ofcause this will only simulate that you need that section intact for conducting arty attacks but it makes them high value asset.

What I was actually looking for is some way to turn arty on and off. Granting arty priority to a unit and then disable its radio using "damage If" seems not effective.

I was fooled by my own testing - thought it would work though :(
