Yet another suggestion from me (a non-programmer!): How hard would this be to integrate into SB? I can already guess the answer.... :) Still, it does look nice. Take a look at the screenshots page, and some of the videos. It's not just about clouds, it about natural lighting. It's incredible the difference it makes...

And yes, I don't know who modelled the M1's, but they're a bit 'off'!

Good finding - really neat stuff - almost gives me a heartbreak... but I'm confident that features like these are going to be implemented sooner or later (maybe in 3 years) and thats not that bad at all considering the resources eSim has. I'm optimistic that the "best" things of Steel Beasts simulation are yet to come in the coming years :)

I'm confident that in two to three years our major army customers will be satisfied with the vehicles that SB offers and the overall functionality in tactics. We can then divert our attention to making things much prettier.

The problem simply is that since some of our customers have a very real and urgent need to prop up some of their training methodology, and to see the sims (in our case SB Pro) adapted to the current operational requirements. Obviously SB was not designed to suit the kind of conflicts that we are seeing now for a couple of years, and while the high intensity combat between nation states still is an important thing in training basic tactical proficiency it is not so much in demand by the troops preparing for deployments.
We feel an obligation to cater to these needs first before we start making SB a better and prettier game. It doesn't mean that this would be of lesser importance to us, but it is of lesser urgency as long as clearly identified capability gaps exist to facilityte the training that the troops need.

I'm just happy to hear that this sim will be supported and enhanced far longer into the future than any other game or sim I've purchased. I can wait...

(dribbles expectantly)

So instead of threads about tanks, we're going to be commenting on the simmed weather?
Not that this is a bad thing, more eye-candy to attract more undecided tankers. (SB2, maybe?)

I Agree Kepler, C&C a classic example, 2 years down the line after a games release and bang, nothing on the offical website anywhere.

So instead of threads about tanks, we're going to be commenting on the simmed weather? I don't presume to speak for eSim in any capacity, but I would guess/expect that what weather we see will be largely abstracted, such that while the mission might decree rain, you might not see rain so much as you'd notice a degradation in the TIS image, or slicker roads, etc.

In fact, one may consider the traction property found in the map editor to be a forerunner of what I think we might expect, regarding weather.

Well, that is supposed to be the mobility effect of weather, but I also see gunnery affected (crosswind) as well as having at least some drizzle/rain/downpour animation. I'm not sure to which degree we can make it localized and dynamic. With (for the classroom version) map sizes of up to 60x80km² the assumption of static and global weather conditions are no longer really credible. This of course is a can of worms of its own...
