Gibsonm
And that's just the first one. There will be a second, mirror one, for the Eastern Blue BG too.
Gibsonm
Next one, the Eastern BG AO (note the boundaries for the first mission extending off the map to the West): Top: Bottom:

Hedgehog
Aha! But how much randomness is written into that?
Gibsonm
Not a lot really. There is "randomness" in that there are four pieces of ground that support a Blue BG defensive location (the positions Kagaru, Ridge, 2nd last and Final shown in the uncluttered first post).Which one is selected is up to the syndicate and their planning. The Red plan needs to be able to execute a Bn or BDE(-) attack based on where the defensive location is.So once Red recce detects the required units to satisfy the criteria the follow up forces execute their attacks according to Red doctrine. There is some randomness in terms of whether the Western Bn launches a supporting attack or bypasses the first position but after that Red exhibits doctrinal behaviours (so you don't get a Bn trying to atk on a Coy frontage, etc.).Similarly the distances in various formations (Bn Column, then Coy Columns, then PL Columns, then battle formation) and time spent in assembly areas are also doctrinal.Smaller Blue positions blocking the line of march are dealt with by the CRP, Van Guard or Main Guard as required.Similarly the 2nd Echelon of the BDE does a forward passage of lines and takes over from the culminated 1st Echelon Bn based on its remaining cbt power (again not random). So there is flexibility and the ability to adapt as required, but not randomness.
Gibsonm
The Eastern Mission completed: Maybe able to adapt versions of these for Rolling Thunder '15.
Kingtiger
Holy f*ck thats a sh*tload of routes!
Gibsonm
Well when the Bn shakes out into assault formation that's: 9 x Mech PLs 3 x Coy HQ 3 x Tk PLs 15 routes side by side in the first echelon alone. 2 Bns in the Bde attacking, 4 possible atks = 60 routes plus all the underlying stuff. Lots of use of the zoom slider I can tell you.

Gibsonm
True that not every route will get used every time, but you need the scenario to be complex enough to react to various player choices and to force them to develop plans robust enough to defeat both the Most Likely and Most Dangerous enemy course of action. It would have little training value if it just did the same one thing every time it ran.

Gibsonm
And on the weekends .... Ran this for a Reserve unit this weekend (why I missed TGIF): Three groups: A bunch of Bushmasters - two laptops per vehicle (Commander and Driver - guess who has the steering wheel). Some others acting as the trucks being escorted, and A third group being the dismounted enemy.

Gibsonm
Any idea when the AMoD will stretch to widescreen monitors? Could have them now if we wanted but this is a portable setup. Designed to go in boxes (you can just see them stacked behind the keyboard template enlargement in the top photo) in a truck to a location. The host unit just supplies a room/tent, power, tables and chairs. "Ruggardised" containers for the forty 27" screens would take up another truck of space, extend setup/packup times and ramp up the power requirements considerably. Our dedicated Sim classrooms use desktop machines and big screens, but they don't need to be portable.
