I am about to start building a 1:35 scale Tamiya Marines M60A1 tank with Reactive armour and was wondering if the suggested NATO colour scheme is right. The other option is the Desert Storm sand colour but I just finished an M1A1 Abrams in that scheme. So can anyone vouch for the Marines having a NATO green and brown M60A1 ? Not much luck searching the Net so far. Thanks in advance.
I believe it would be OK. If memory serves the MERDC scheme fell out of favour in the mid/late '80s, and the Marines didn't get their M1s until 1991, so there will be a couple of years that are OK for the NATO scheme.

Thanks. I think I will go with the Desert Sand for this one. The guy in the model shop may have led me astray. The alternate colour scheme suggested by Tamiya is for USA and Far East so I believe the colours would not be NATO Green and Brown which what I bought. The M60A1 might go with the M1A1 in a diorama one day. If anyone out there served in M60s I would be keen to know what colour to paint the interior and fire bottles.

The interior was white (for better visibility in low light) and, if I remember correctly, the fire bottles were red.
On the M-60's I served in the interior was indeed white and so were the fire bottles. The only color inside the turret was the cannon breech assembly which was gunmetal black, the radios which were green, the gunner's cadillac handles which were black and the emergency gun fire handle which was red. Oh - and the ammo cases were bronze and depending on the ammo type blue, black or green (and I think WP was light green but don't remember because we never loaded any of that).
