The BMP-1 Medic, more properly the BVP-1 AMB-S, is a modification to the ubiquitous BMP-1 in use by the armed forces of the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The modification involved replacement of the turret with a raised crew compartment, offering room for four stretchers, and placing a small IR searchlight on top. Although not in service with the Russian military, who prefer their UAZ-452 vans, this vehicle can be found operating with several Eastern European and Middle-Eastern militaries. Interestingly, the Chinese utilize an almost identical modification to their Type 86 BMP-1 clone under the industrial number WZ-505.
Unarmed, the BMP-1 Medic has the same capabilities and strictures as the M113 Medic vehicle.
As of revision 4.156 ambulance vehicles carry dismountable Medic Teams capable of reviving any “save-able” dismounted infantry casualties (i.e. dead troops) located within a small radius (25m) of their location. Medic teams only effect dismounted elements, and not vehicle crews.
The medic team for the BMP-1 Medic is 2 medics armed with 5.45mm rifles for self-defense.
