General

Developed in response to testing by the U.S. and Germany of the highly effective Russian "Kontact-5" reactive armour suite, the M829A2 is a third-generation American made armor piercing, fin stabilized, discarding sabot with tracer (APFSDS-T) round. Although superseded by the M829A3 APFSDS-T in 2003, the M829A2 was stockpiled in large numbers and only began the demilitarization process in mid 2014.
