Line Objects

Summary: /* Considerations for Map Makers */

These were added with version update 2.538. See also the "Obstacles_And_Fortifications" article.

Note that the "Terrastan" map features some additional wall types which are not user-placable.

Types
Jersey Barrier
* This barrier can not be breached
* Infantry is able to cross it

Bremer Wall
* This barrier can not be breached
* Infantry can not cross it
* Blocks LOS
* Does skew with the terrain

HESCO Bastion
These come in two variants, a single-height and a double-height barrier.

Note that in the map editor, one additional row is displayed (the single height shows with two rows, the double-stacked barrier with 3 rows - in the game the lowest row is sunk into the ground to deal with eventual terrain irregularities.

There is also a "HESCO fort" map object which fits very nicely with these bastions..

* This barrier can not be breached.
* Does not skew with the terrain (since there is not a single container object available this object should not be used on steep slopes)

Fences
There are two types:

* Fences do skew with the terrain

Brick Walls
There are three variants:

* "Flint and Brick" and "Brick" walls do not skew with the terrain. On very rough ground you should use the shorter wall segments since these will "fit" the terrain better.

Gameplay Considerations
Please note that this section is - even by wiki standards - work in progress

* If a (in principle breachable) obstacle can be breached depends on the vehicle's mass and speed when hitting the obstacle. Generally, you should only hit walls and fences at low speed.
*Besides by collision, walls may also be breached by using HE/HESH ammunition.
* When designing "checkpoints", you should not place jersey barries into roads, since AI units will not slow down when travelling on the road.. only when they have hit the barrier does the obstacle avoidance kick in.
* All walls (even HESCO barriers) can be shot through.
* Infantry can cross fences - note that there is no "jumping over the fence" animation, they just seem to "tunnel" through it.
* Line objects will not show up on the map page (F5), nor in the mission editor! The reason for this is that fortifications are often of a temporary nature (so would not appear on printed maps) and could not be hidden from the other side (so it would have "perfect intelligence" and could use this to plot artillery missions etc. Mission designers should instead add informational map overlays to show (relevant) fences/lines/barriers.

Considerations for Map Makers
The "wider" line objects do not fit too well on steeper terrain slopes, use the "short" versions instead:

* Note that for HESCO barriers no "short" versions are available
* Fences, country walls, Jersey barriers and Bremer walls skew with the underlying terrain
* It seems that the wall is placed at the elevation of its center part

Summary: /* General */

General
This RWS is stabilized, with a thermal sight, and can be equipped with a cal .50 heavy machine gun or a 40mm automatic grenade launcher.

Lemur can be coupled to the Pilar(w) microphone array. This is a shot detection system plugged into the fire control system. It can in automatic mode override the gunner to point him to the approximate source of incoming fire.
Currently, the MAN_SX45, Piranha_IIIC, Eagle_IV, Bushmaster, ASLAV-PC and M-113G3 vehicles may be eqipped with Lemur. Right-click on the vehicle in the mission editor, select "Options", "Remote weapon station" and the type of weapon you want to equip.
FOV90

Summary: /* General */

General
The FOV90 is a CV90/40 based artillery observer vehicle. All crew positions (commander, gunner, driver) are playable.

Note that in Steel Beasts the 3d model (both internal and external) of the CV90/40-B is used (for the 'turret view' the CV90/40-C model is used).

Please refer to the "Vehicle Manual FOV90.pdf" document in the 'Other Documents' folder of your Steel Beasts start program menu for an in-depth explanation of this vehicle's functionality.

Crew Positions
Gunner F6
* Use the Lase button (Joystick button #2, Ctrl, right mouseclick) to use the laser range finder
* Use the Space Bar to enter the range into the Call for Fire dialog box
* The gunner cannot call for fire, only enter the range
Commander F7
* The commander or squad leader (=dismounted FO) must perform the actual CFF
* If dismounted, the FO doesn't have access to the coordinates lased by the vehicle, but has to use his own sight
Squad F11
Dismountable FO teams can open the troop hatches and operate NVGs. They cannot however operate their sight while they are mounted.

Summary: /* General */

General
All crew stations (driver, gunner, commander, squad) are modelled and may be occupied by the player.

This vehicle may be equipped with the Lemur remote weapon station. In this case the displays in the commander's and squad's station will repeat the Lemur's display. Opening the commander's hatch (B) will inhibit the Lemur; the squad's hatch may be opened (Alt B) however.

The dismount section for the Piranha IIIC is 10 men (compared with only 6 on the Piranha IIIH), carrying 2(4) PzF 3 light anti-armour weapons, a MG3 and 5.56mm rifles.

A larger version of the Mowag chassis used on the other LAV series vehicles, this PC is used by the Canadian military, and is the basis for the US Stryker. It maximises internal space by only incorporating a HMG cupola. The hull side are smooth, unlike the ASLAV-PC's boxy extension.

The armour is thin, and lacking any optical magnification for the HMG, or any FCS this vehicle is very vulnerable. It should only be used for direct fire in support of its dismounted infantry, or in emergencies.

Cross country performance is similar to all the LAV series. It is currently only available as an AI vehicle.

This vehicle is amphibious.

The dismount section for the Piranha III is 6 men, carrying 2(4) PzF 3 light anti-armour weapons, a MG3 and 5.56mm rifles.
