A decisive engagement is when a unit is fully committed and cannot maneuver or extricate itself. The action must be fought to a conclusion and won or lost with the forces at hand. This scenario is set at the National Training Center and features a late 1990s US armor company team conducting a hasty defense against a Krasnovian tank battalion executing a spoiling attack. The equipment and ammunition used by both sides would have been seen as 'cutting edge' at the time. This scenario is designed to present a challenge to experienced players. This scenario aims to be run as a tactical decision game that can be completed from planning to the AAR within 40 minutes. The recommended timeline for this format is below: Planning - 10 minutes. Execution - Approximately 20 minutes. AAR - 10 minutes. Feedback on this scenario may be sent to the author at steelbeasts.com (Mirzayev) or via Discord (revenant_mz). Special thanks to Nike-Ajax, ben, and Apocalypse for testing and feedback.

Here I've created an M1IP Abrams tank from the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment as it would be seen in Germany during the mid to late 1980s. By using dpabrams' amazing 11th ACR skins as a template, and Splash's fantastic M88 tracks for the Abrams's period correct T156 Tracks, I was able to replicate a generic M1IP resembling most found in pictures during that time period. I highly recommend checking out both of their mods linked below:

  4. Kanium Sunday 30th of January "Operation Ragnarok - Phase II", by Nike-Ajax This is a BIG scenario, which it is why it will be run in two phases. Do NOT hold yourself back, even if you did not join in Phase I, then there is still plenty of fun. No skill or experience requirements needed. So no need to have played first Phase if you play this. Strategic map: Tactical Maps: ________________ Operation Ragnarok Phase II 7´th of June 2023 SB Mission by Nike-Ajax Scenario notes: 1) For a number of reasons, then there are NO smoke missions on either side for server stability. Also for server stability, all destroyed callsigns will be removed after 60 sec. For same reason there is no clouds. 2) This is a TWO part scenario, so BLUEFOR/Aesir will ONLY advance to Phase Line Aesir in the first session. In the second BLUEFOR will advance to, and make a bridge crossing of the river Boevra, and then fight to seize the ENY HQ. 3) This will simulate a BGD BG attack. For server stability then it is simulated that BGD CO will coordinate the attack in the other AO to match the progress of BLUEFOR in the chosen AO, hence the BLUEFOR CO only has to worry about staying within his boundaries. And winning. 4) This is meant and built to be run by a Human OPFOR 0. Background The battle has begun: All across the worlds the fighting rages. The Gods are barely holding on and many have fallen. Voelven´s prophecy are coming close to the truth: 51. O'er the sea from the east | there sails a ship With the people of Muspell, | at the helm stands Loki; After the wolf | do wild men follow, And with them the brother | of Byleist goes. 52. Surt fares from the south | with the scourge of branches, The sun of the battle-gods | shone from his sword; The crags are sundered, | the giant-women sink, The dead throng Hel-way, | and heaven is cloven. 53. Now comes to Hlin | yet another hurt, When Othin fares | to fight with the wolf, And Beli's fair slayer | seeks out Surt, For there must fall | the joy of Frigg. 54. Then comes Sigfather's | mighty son, Vithar, to fight | with the foaming wolf; In the giant's son | does he thrust his sword Full to the heart: | his father is avenged. 55. Hither there comes | the son of Hlothyn, The bright snake gapes | to heaven above; . . . . . . . . . . Against the serpent | goes Othin's son. But not all is lost. In middleearth, the forces of good are holding their own despite heavy losses, fighting wars they think is of their own making. Maybe Ragnarök can be stopped or delayed after all ? I. Situation Time: 0300 Local Time Weather: Clear skies with no chance of rain, 23 degrees Centigrade, wind speed 5 m/s from NE and LOS 3500 Meters General We have attacked through the initial enemy forces in Jotunheimen, and fought our way up to near the the river Boevra to our north. We had to stop to rearm and reorganize due to heavy losses, particularly in the western AO, where their Tank forces was hit harder than yours. From this position we will continue the attack, securing and then crossing the river, to enable us to carry our offensive further north. The initial battle was successful, but hard fought. And we expect this to no easier. Our strategic objective is to ATTACK the ENY to the Northeast with a BGD BG, making an opposed river crossing aimed at and after the crossing, destroying the ENY HQ. The Enemy have had their initial strong defenses broken and breached by our forces, but we know that they have a secondary obstacle area north of the river built up for months if not years. Which in line with our last operation, will be used to strengthen their defenses. And will likely hide behind them and try to inflict as many casualties as they can from there (Reference Map trace). Once you have reached Phase line Baldur, you will halt and CONSOLIDATE and then remain and DEFEND in place. Thus setting the parameters for the break out operation to advance and expand further North and East and force the Enemy into a more mobile type of warfare which suits us better. Due to our heavy losses, then what remained of the MECHINF and Recon forces that was used in the previous operation have been pulled back for rearmament, reconsolidation and repair. You have instead been allocated a full new MECHINF COY as well as a PLT of RECON. The TNK PLTs have been repaired, rearmed and casualties replaced. But as outlined, then the other BG to your West was hit hard, so we do not have any more reinforcements beyond that. We therefore do not have as many forces as we wanted. But not only are our forces limited, due to the state of lack of worship of the old Gods on Middleearth. But the attack which you took part in was only one of many. And there are more to come. So you will have to make do with what you have. Do NOT push past boundaries EAST or WEST or risk being attacked and destroyed from your flanks, because as in your previous operation other forces will attack coordinated by BGD CMD alongside your attack. Terrain: Mixture of closed and open, with channeling and blocking terrain features particularly to the South and Southwest, opening up as you push further North. Also there are a number of natural obstacles in the form of rivers, lakes and other watercourses. Biggest terrain feature is the River Boevra and the hills to the north of it which commands the river. Second biggest is the tributary river of the Boevra which runs North to south and divides the NE part of your AO Obstacles: The Enemy expected us to come and have made numerous obstacles and defenses. Although we broken through their first defensive line, then we expect a secondary - and from Intel last - one to the north of the river. This includes Minefields, from Intel both real and decoy, Abatis in many of the wooded areas, Czech hedgehogs and tank trenches. You do not have to clear these for follow-on forces, but you will probably be forced to breach some minefield regardless to keep lines of communication open, your rear safe and create openings in the ENYs defense. So do what you must to push through, bypassing if necessary. But you have significant ENG assets (2 x reinforced ENG PLT), so clear all obstacles that threaten your advance, flanks OR line of communications. Current Situation. The Enemy is on the DEFENSE with slightly inferior numbers, but we have the better equipment, training and to some degree the element of tactical surprise if not Strategic. They have used the time well to entrench themselves thoroughly. We are on their soil, and even though that means the risk of civilians in the AO, then stakes are high. Therefore, you are tasked to avoid civilian casualties to the degree that it does not endanger your command or overall goals. FIRES in the Urban areas are only authorized by TF COMD (Try to avoid it, if the tactical situation allows it) The majority of the ENY forces have consolidated and reinforced to the NORTH of the Boevra River Enemy Forces Strength: ENY Combined Btn(-). Equipment: At least one (1) Company with M1A1 (in PLTs of 4), One (1) Company mixed with Ulans and Centauros (in PLTs of 4). Added to which 2-3 platoons of dismounted infantry including ATGMs and a Recon element likely with BRDM 2s. Finally likely at least 1 PLT of SP MTR and CSS/HQ ENY Artillery expected in SIGNIFICANT volume. Quality: Likely experienced warriors so regulars. And they WILL be expected to fight to the death, because the stakes are as high for them as for us. MDA: ENY in PREPARED DEFENSE in Main Defensive Areas (MDA), constructed defenses, entrenchments, bunkers and major obstacles highly likely (Reference Maptrace), confidence about which is HIGH. Reinforcement: NOT expected from the East, West or South as their lines of communication are cut for now and they have taken substantial losses across the tactical and strategic AO. Confidence HIGH. ENY ENG have been spotted placing what seems to be demolition charges on the bridges over the river Boevra, and are expected to blow them as we push North. Confidence HIGH. Estimated placement of ENY HQ plotted on map (Reference Map Trace), confidence MEDIUM. ENY CoA: Likely will seek to delay and attrit our forces, using the terrain and prepared defenses to disrupt, delay and destroy our forces. Likely will also seek to engage our forces in limited local and small counterattacks or ambushes. And/or channel and lead our forces into killzones where they can use their AT weapons including ATGMs, and use of terrain, to make up for their relative weakness in equipment and training. Majority of ENY units seem to have been pulled North of the River BOEVRA. But expected light and Recon units south of the River Boevra in PLT (+) size. Likely the ENY will blow most if not all bridges over the Rive Boevra, to delay and channel our forces. ENY have access to Artillery in substantial numbers, exact units deployed for this operation unknown. Friendly Forces (FF). Local AIR SUPERIORITY achieved, but ENY Rotary Wing units can not be discounted in the AO. Flanks. FF East and West to SECURE Flanks, but not to Spt Attack apart from the forces that will attack in the AO, under direct control and coordination by BGD CMD. FF WEST will make a supporting attack to tie ENY forces down, and attrit them if possible. TF GUNGNIR: TF in Deployment Area consists of 4 x tank platoons of STRV122, 1 x RECON PLT (PIRANHA V w. OWS LEMUR 2013, PILAR and AVEPS), 2 x PLT ENG (w. 2 x KODIAK, 1 x M113G3 ENG MICLIC, 1 x BIBER bridgelayer and 2 x GTK Boxer ENG) as well as 4 x Mechanized Infantry Platoon´s of CV90/40-B. Plus Command elements. There are also 3 x 3 Biber mobile bridges, meant for the crossing of the River Boevra to the north. Also there have been allocated a two (2) SP MTR PLTs platoons with integral Supply. Finally there is an extra CMD element, so 2 x STRV122 and 2 x CV90/40-B. TF GUNGNIR Dismounted infantry equipped with 2 x Anti-Tank teams (FGM-148 Javelin) (Odds callsigns) and 2 x LMG Teams (Even callsigns). Each MECHINF platoon thus has 2x Anti-Tank teams and 2 x LMG Teams, the rest being issued with AT-4s and rifle grenades plus a medic team, and are all considered Elite. The Recon INF are equipped with JIM-LR and their vehicles with UAV Quadcopters. There are NO reinforcements beyond this. FIRES: 4 x 6 Tubes of 155mm SP howitzers, no FASCAM or SMOKE available, but with ICM. (With the howitzers being further back, so off-map) 2 x 6 x 120 mm SP mortars with their own supply trucks 12 CAS strike missions on call. 1 x MLRS Strike package (NO reloads) (As usual: ALL ARTILLERY IS UNDER THE CONTROL OF CO AND FO: So do NOT touch the ARTY controls if you not one of these two). Also try to avoid using FIRES in Urban areas. LOGISTICS: In TF GUNGNIR: Repair Sect, 1 x Supply, 1 x Fueler and 1 x MED Sect, plus one more PLT same setup minus the fuler PLUS two (2) x 1 ARV section with 1 x ARV and 1 x Repair Sect. 2 x Engr PLT, as there are expected major prepared obstacles in vector of attack. But you may BYPASS ENY obstacles, if prudent and necessary given the tactical environment. Rules of Engagement. NOTHING IN THESE RULES OF ENGAGEMENT LIMITS YOUR RIGHT TO TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION TO DEFEND YOURSELF AND YOUR UNIT. A. You have the right to use force to proactively engage any and all ENY targets of opportunity. B. You are cleared to fire first on all hostile targets or targets with deemed hostile intent, including armed civilians. Anyone armed are deemed hostile. C. The force should be used under the circumstances and proportional to the threat. D. We are at war. Destruction of civilian property has been cleared by the local authorities if CO deems that there is a military value and goal in said destruction, buy FIRES in urban areas should be avoided if possible unless there is a risk to the commands units or integrity. E. No Quarters asked and none given... II. Mission: TF GUNGNIR is to ATTACK and CONDUCT EXPLOITATION, DESTROYING the ENY between FLOT and Phase Line BALDUR, CROSS the river Boevra and SEIZE the terrain, IOT DENY the area to the ENY. III. Execution Concept of the Operation: TF GUNGNIR, ATTACK from SOUTHWEST to NORTHEAST; conducting an attack by fire from FLOT towards PL BALDUR (See Map trace), crossing the River Boevra and clearing the route with regards to obstacles as tactically dictated. As part of the attack, locate and DESTROY the ENY HQ. Once SECURE, PREPARE HASTY Defence to HOLD PL BALDUR line until relieved. This will DENY the area to the ENY and PREVENT further ENY offensive operations, achieving our immediate military goal, while setting the conditions for next phase so the breakout attack from Phase Line Baldur and destruction of the ENY HQ. Commanders Intent Purpose - The purpose of this operation is to CROSS the River Boevra, DESTROY the ENY forces in the AO, then OCCUPY, thus weakening the Enemys will to fight and persuading them not to conduct further offensive actions until we are ready to carry out Follow-on offensive operations. Key Tasks 1. Attack from FLOT towards PL Baldur to DESTROY the ENY. 2. Cross the River Boevra by any means necessary. 3. Locate and DESTROY ethe ENY HQ. 4. Conduct HASTY DEFENSE ITO DEFEAT ENY Counter Attacks 5. Resupply, rearm and reform at PL BALDUR. End State: Friendly. FF postured in or IVO PL BALDUR; consolidated and prepared and able to continue operations towards the NORTH and NORTHEAST. Enemy. ENY DESTROYED between FLOT and PL BALDUR, unable to support Enemy forces NORTH of the AO. Terrain. All tactically commanding terrain features SECURED and CLEAR of ENY. Civilian. As little disruption to civilian life and property as possible, without disrupting your military goals and the security of your command. Fires Concept. 4 x 6 Tubes of self-propelled 155 mm howitzers that will directly support this operations, from outside of the AO (offmap) These have the following allotted ammunition per tube for the entire operation: 60 rounds of HE (Total 1440) 24 Rounds of ICM (Total 576) Two (2) x Six (6) tubes of 120 mm self-propelled Mortars for use in AO, with integral ammo supply trucks. So 2 x 6 Tubes of 120 Organic fires under TF CO Control (P1 and P2), with organic supply vehicles (P4 and P7) One (1) MLRS (M270) Strike package (with NO reloads) (2 x 3 MLRS), armed with ER-MLRS M26A1 w/M85 (HEDP). There are Twelve (12) priority missions ready for tasking. 12 CAS sorties were awarded during this targeting cycle of the ATO under TF CO control. Aviation Nil IV. We will be playing on the new version 4.162 CG08_Island_Liberation_Final_Push_V5_HUMANOPFOR Excerpts of the battalion commander's orders for... CG08 Island Liberation the Final Push May 2018 1400. Weather good. Visibility 3000m 1) SITUATION: Following our defeat of the Rebels and their 'Volunteer' support in the West of the Island we are now ready to move forward and complete the liberation of the Island. Enemy continue to land forces from their second wave at the port a) Enemy: Having disposed of the local forces we are now faced with clearing the more capable 'Volunteer' units which continue to disembark at Port Kyrounis. We understand that 3 companies of T72m4 of the enemy second wave have landed with accompanying infantry (estimated 3 to 4 Coy). Much of the infantry has been widely deployed on higher ground or covering likely avenues of approach to the port although a Coy strength is possibly BMP2 mounted. Given the size of the enemy Task Force it is likely 2 further Tank Coys have yet to be unloaded The remaining Separatist leaders are thought to be sheltering at the Port and no special attempt to capture them should be made. Again the enemy has limited Indirect Fire Support Air defences are thought to be in place around the port The situation is fluid in that as enemy forces deploy from the port area they are likely to be spreading out and can be expected to attack from a variety of directions. Therefore you should retain the ability to react to flank attacks FLASH UPDATE: Current drone recon shows latest ship to arrive at Port Kyrounis as having approx Coy strength T90 on deck. b) Own: TF Jackal is being re armed and replenished for this second push. Again you have M3 Reconnaisance split into 2 sections of 3 Vics. 2 x Coy M1A1 ( both minus 1 PLT still re-arming and/or awaiting replacements), Only one Coy of M2 (Inf and Javelin) is presently ready but rather than wait we will push on and the remaining Coy will join us as soon as they are replenished as will the missing Tank PLT. c) Attachments and detachments: Further USMC Troops will be airlifted into the Training base once secured Again you have offshore fire support of 2 batteries of 6 tubes each. Also US Marines can supply 3 airstrikes on request and are rearming the Cobra Gunships as fast as possible 2) MISSION: Attack to seize Port Kyrounis and the Army Training Base - this will allow us to liberate the island and prevent enemy reinforcement. Once these Objectives are seized and the enemy Armour is destroyed it is likely any enemy forces will surrender You will be awarded success under following Criteria - Army Base cleared of enemy AFVs and you have at least 2 AFVs in area The Port is captured when cleared of all enemy AFVs Remaining enemy infantry will be deemed as being cleared in a mopping up later but the enemy will no longer be able to land heavy support forces 3) EXECUTION: a)In order to complete the liberation of the Island you are to seize and hold the following: 1. Port Kyrounis 2. The Army Training Centre b)Destruction of non AFV enemy forces is welcome in as much as it aids the capture of your objectives but is secondary to the primary mission c)Once the Army Training Base is secure USMC forces will airlift in to help hold the position Intent: Concept of Operation: a) Seize the 2 objectives outlined above destroying any opposition preventing the attainment of this. b) Whilst there is no time limit the enemy will use time to land their reinforcements NOTES: It is believed that most of the numerous walls are easily breached by AFVs Weather is dry and sunny Defend the Port & Training Center

We will be playing on the new version 4.162 Excerpts of the battalion commander's orders for... CG7 Island Liberation May 2018 4.00AM Visibility initially hazy but quickly burning off to 3000 m plus 1) SITUATION: Following the collapse of the mainland government, rebels have seized government military assets and declared independance. However the uprising lacks popular support being largely instigated by Russia who seeks a futher Mediterranean port. Whilst local rebel forces are equipped with T 62 and older equipment they have suddenly acquired a good number of more modern T 72, crewed and supported by 'volunteers'. A US led Taskforce has arrived off the Island with the intention of restoring Government control. A depth bridghead is to be created before additonal enemy forces can consolidate their hold on the Island a)Enemy: Whilst local rebel forces are equipped with T62 and older equipment they have suddenly acquired a good number of more modern T72 crewed and supported by 'volunteers'. The newer equipment is based in the Eastern side of the Island and may take a little time to deploy at least part of the force to our AO. Immediate opposition is expected to be the local breakway rebel forces and irregulars. Estimated the Rebel forces have approx 2 Coy T62, supported by up to a Coy of BMD with independant Infantry teams around the objectives and other built up areas. As this is a loosely organized Rebel force precise organisational details have been hard to come by Intelligence believes up to 2 Coy T72 have either already commenced deploying in your AO or, are heading into this area from the port. Enemy has limited Indirect Fire Support directed by a few trained observers b) Own: Under cover of the pre-dawn we have landed Task Force Jackal. This comprises 1 x Coy M1A1 and 1 x Coy M2 (Inf and Javelin) with 2 sections of M3 for Recon. Support assets have also been landed. Offshore fire support for HE and Smoke equivalent of 2 x 4 tubes is on call. 3 x on call airstrikes are available Command will try to land further forces if possible to reinforce your attack but timing is uncertain and depandant on local maritime operations. The same issue is likely to prevent much in the way of AH1 Cobra gunship support but the Logistics people will see what they can do. You will be advised when available. d) Whilst you have less able enemy forces for the initial stages of your attack scattered infantry teams can still be a danger. Given the confined space for manoevure be prepared for short range contact. More capable opposition will be moving into the area as you progress 2) MISSION: In order to clear sufficient depth of deployment for further forces awaiting landing, you are to seize and hold the terrain objectives as below. 3) EXECUTION: a)In order to clear sufficient depth of deployment for further forces awaiting landing, you are to seize and hold the following: 1. Radar Station 2. Paliki (Intelligence suggests this is the HQ for the Breakaway forces for this part of the island and from where they are terrorising the local population) 3. The mothballed Missile Site which can quickly be brought into operation with major implications to the balance of military control in the surrounding area. 4. Routes Green and Orange need to be free from enemy occupation at the end of operations although this is secondary to the capture of the 3 locations designated b)Destruction of enemy forces is welcome in as much as it aids the capture of your objectives but is secondary to the primary mission c)Once the Radar Station and/or Paliki are secured, USMC troops will be airlifted in to secure the areas freeing your force up for further operations Intent: Concept of Operation: a) Seize the 3 objectives outlined above destroying any opposition preventing the attainment of this. b) YOU ARE FORBIDDEN to use indirect fire on Paliki or Baytown to avoid civilian casualties. Direct fire is permitted on identified hostile forces. These areas are marked on the map. c) Colour routes are guidance of the largest Island highways only d) Whilst there is no time limit the enemy will use time to penetrate their reinforcements further West across the Island e) DO NOT cross phase line Reaper at this time as that is for a future phase of operations - NB Penalty Zone!

Everybody is Welcome: you don't have to belong to Kanium. We love playing with you all, the arranger and CO loves you even more if you sign up in advance CG08 Island Liberation Final Push V4.1 for4.161 Excerpts of the battalion commander's orders for... Also US Marines can supply 3 airstrikes on request and are rearming the Cobra Gunships as fast as possible 2) MISSION: To Liberate the Island and prevent further enemy landings we need to seize Port Kyrounis and also the Army Training Base. Once these Objectives are seized and the enemy Armour is destroyed it is likely any enemy forces will surrender. You will be awarded success under following Criteria - Army Base cleared of enemy AFVs and you have at least 2 AFVs in area The Port is captured when cleared of all enemy AFVs. Remaining enemy infantry will be deemed as being cleared in a mopping up later but the enemy will no longer be able to land heavy support forces 3) EXECUTION: a) In order to complete the liberation of the Island you are to seize and hold the following: 1. Port Kyrounis 2. The Army Training Centre b)Destruction of non AFV enemy forces is welcome in as much as it aids the capture of your objectives but is secondary to the primary mission c)Once the Army Training Base is secure USMC forces will airlift in to help hold the position Intent: Concept of Operation: a) Seize the 2 objectives outlined above destroying any opposition preventing the attainment of this. b) Whilst there is no time limit the enemy will use time to land their reinforcements NOTES: It is believed that most of the numerous walls are easily breached by AFVs Weather is dry and sunny

We love playing with you all, the arranger and CO loves you even more if you sign up in advance Operation Uppercut 25th of December 1989 SB Mission by Nike-Ajax 0. Background And so it is Christmas ... But not a peaceful one. Events staring around Oktober looked like they could usher in a new era, and possibly break down the Iron curtain and the wall between East and West. And for a time it looked like it would do just that, however conflicts between demonstrators and police and eventually military escalated. And in a rerun of previous Soviet invasions in Hungary and Czechoslovakia and latest in Afghanistan, then the Soviet politbureau decided to use force in and ended up with a blood bath that was aptly named as the Red October. In what quickly spiralled out of control, this in the end sparked a direct confrontation between Soviet and NATO troops around Berlin, which soon brought in more troops to the conflict elsewhere. Neither side had really planned for it so in what ended up being a rerun of the start of WW 1, then both sides scrambled to bring their forces into position. However that is where the similarities ended. Once the Soviet Juggernaut got moving, then as countless wargames had demonstrated it was hard to stop them. However the price in blood and materiel for the Warsaw Pact has been far higher than either side anticipated - mostlyu because of the not quite planned offensive. The unplanned nature is probably what have held back the Soviets from using the hundreds of nuclear strikes they had planned. This however might soon change depending on how this battle goes. I. Situation Time 0800 Local Time Weather Lightly Clouded with no chance of rain, 2 degrees Centigrade and LOS 3000 Km General. In light the direct attack on several of our allies in NATO, Article 5 of the NATO Charter has been evoked. And following that then NATO is now formally at war. Operation Reforger are in full swing, but have yet to stop the Soviet Juggernaut. We are part of an Adhoc brigade sized Battlegroup, created from the remnants of German and American units that have been subjected to heavy losses, and are now south of Hannover in a defensive position. We have been tasked with first stopping, and then if possible blunting the momentum of the enemy through a limited but aggressive counter attack. NATO have been inflicting horrendous losses on the Warsaw Pact enemies, but the WAPA have mobilized everything. And even though the combat have weeded out the incompetent and unlucky on both sides, and we have inflicted far bigger losses on the enemy, then they have far more than us to expend. And so they still outnumber us by a considerable margin. Moreover then many of the newest and most techical advanced weapons in our possession are being pressed to their limit, and what is worse are beginning to run out of the most advanced weapons. Our Taskforce - Taskforce Boxer - is part of this Battlegroup, and have been assembled to block, and then clear the Enemy to our East. From SIGINT confirmed by our LRRP Patrols, then it seems that the Enemy have been careless and have moved a major HQ too near the forward lines, something we will exploit if possible. Our forces are not strong enough to punch through to it however, so we need to force the Enemy through attrition into a more manageable size. We are on our allied Nation´s soil, but times are desperate so you are cleared to use all weapons at your disposal with extreme prejudice. The Battlegroup commander minced no words: "Gentlemen: you are all that stands between the Enemy and a major breakthrough in this sector. My Headquarter lies only a few kilometers to your rear, and the order is that if you fail, then Tactical Nuclear weapons are now cleared for use on the battlefield. So make sure that you make the enemy die for their country instead of the other way around" Enemy Forces. The Enemy to our overall front is a Brigade sized(+) Soviet Force, of which we expect that they will use a Battalion(-) in the AO of Taskforce Boxer. From Intel, then this seems to be at least one full Company of T72B1 and another full company of BMP-2, with additional support and recon troops. To their rear they have an exposed Forward HQ, which can be expected to be defended - but not entrenched - heavily: Expect a mixture of dismounted infantry including ATGM as well as limited armored/mechanized assets defending this specifically. As the ENY are on the attack as part of a bigger offensive, then we do not expect any major Obstacles or minefields, confidence about that is HIGH. Regardless of this and given the intel then we do expect them to be entrenched and in a combat stance, and have a layered defence around their forward HQ. From SIGINT we know that the ENY have access to Artillery in substantial but unknow amounts. Friendly Forces. We have temporary local air superiority, but are limited to strike planes. This is both due to strong local Air defence, but also to attrition of our rotary wing assets. We have other NATO Forces to our NORTH (German) and SOUTH (US) that will push forward and support our attack. So do NOT cross the Taskforce boundaries reference Map trace, to avoid risk of Friendly Fire. Our Taskforce consists of 3 x tank platoons of M1A1 as well as 2 x mechanized infantry platoon of M2A2, along with a tactical reserve of 1 PLT of Leopard 2A4 and a 1 PLT of Marder 1A3 detached from a German Company to our North. We have also been augmented with a COY of German Panzergrenadiers which will only hold and defend in position (Reference Map trace), and are under BTN Command. These have put up obstacles including 3 minefields (reference Maptrace). We also have 3 x 6 tubes of M109 155mm howitzers, which have a full range of rounds, including Two (2) FASCAM missions and 6 x 120 mm mortars from Fox Company with its own supply truck (with the howitzers being further back, so off-map), as well as support assets from Hotel Company (repair, 2 x supply and medical). Our dismounted infantry from B COY is equipped with light machine guns (FN MAGs) and Anti-Tank teams ( 4 x M47 Dragon). Each MECHINF platoon in A COY thus has 4x LMG teams and 4x Anti-Tank teams plus a medicteam, and are all considered Elite. Rules of Engagement. You have the right to use force to proactively engage any and all ENY targets of opportunity. B. You are cleared to fire first on all hostile targets or targets with deemed hostile intent, including armed civilians. C. The force should be used under the circumstances and proportional to the threat. D. We are at war. Destruction of civilian property has been cleared by the local authorities if CO deems that there is a military value and goal in said destruction, including FIRES in urban areas. E. All Laws of War are to be observed. II. Mission Taskforce Boxer Blocks Enemy attack, and then on TF CO´s initiative and order, attacks to destroy enemy defenders between PL HOLYFIELD and PL TYSON to stop or slow the WAPA offensive, and create depth in the NATO defence and if possible allow friendly forces to continue offensive operations further North and South. III. Execution Concept of the Operation Alpha Company and with 2 German PLT´s from their D Company in tactical reserve, Block the enemy attack. Having stopped the enemy attack, the Taskforce on TF CO´s initiative and orders will then attack from the WEST and towards EAST, setting an attack by fire from PL HOLYFIELD towards PL TYSON, and use own assets if possible to clear the Enemy HQ at OBJ KNOCKOUT. This will create a defence in depth for our forces and enable the remaining forces to follow up and expand our zones of control as well as degrade the enemies command structure. Everybody is Welcome: you don't have to belong to Kanium. We love playing with you all, the arranger and CO loves you even more if you sign up in advance 11th ACR Mission 1 Delay at Bad Hersfeld V. 2 Excerpts of the battalion commander's orders for... 1) SITUATION: a) Enemy: In the last two hours we have been under heavy attack from 39th Guards Motor Rifle Division. As expected we are being forced back towards Bad Hersfeld and our minefields have been breached north of Bebra. Enemy units have been hit hard by both air attacks and our rotary assets. It is assesed that some units have been pulled out of actions already and second echelon forces have been deployed. Remaining MRR regiments we believe is at less than 75% combat streght left. Enemy appears to have three Course of Actions (COA) and looks to be focusing on two of them. Main effort (COA-1) from Herlefhausen south-west via Highway 4 and the second effort (COA-2) from Lüderbach and Ringbach south-west Highway 27. Both with main objective being Bad Hersfeld. COA-3 appears to be a probe going west/south-west along Landstrasse 3336. Enemy main effort (COA-1) appears to be along Highway 4 with 120th Guards MRR (motor rifle regiment), 117th Guards MRR, leading the way. Backing them up is the 15th Guards Tank Regiment. Enemy secondary effort (COA-2) is via Highway 27 with what we believe is 11th recon battalion leading and with 172nd Guards MRR following close behind. We have reason to believe that 80th Tank regiment is split between COA-1 and COA-2. The 3rd MTR BTN of the 172nd is reported undergoing refueling and rearming and will not be available to support their attack. Enemy is focusing main rotary effort on COA-1. Units identified 39th Helicoptor Squadron has been in action in that area. Enemy air forces is still a threat so air warning: yellow. b) Own: 3/11th is at war. We have been in the fight for several hours now and have giving ground only when forced to. Lima and Mike Troop have been fighting a delay from Lüderbach since this morning with support from 4th Squadron(Air). They are pressed hard and need to resupply and rearm soon. - India Troop (INVADER)(YOU!)(90% strenght)) is setting up for a delay in the valley north of Bad Hersfeld covering COA-2. - Kilo Troop (KILLER )(90% strenght) is setting up in the valley North-East of Bad Hersfeld covering COA-1. - Lima Troop (LEADHORSE) (60% strenght) is going through Bad Hersfeld and heading for the Squadrons Assembly and resupply area. - Mike Troop (MAULER) (50% strenght) is going through Bad Hersfeld and heading for the Squadrons Assembly and resupply area. It is CO 3/11th (BANDIT) intension to fight a delaying action in COA-1 and COA-2 delaying enemy forces for enough time to secure that Lima and Mike troop get the necessary time to rearm and get reinforcements to the area. Hold at least 1 hour if possible. You will have entire 3/11th artillery assets available (2x4 M109s). 4th Squadron(Air) is resupplying and will have a flight - 2 x AH-64 Apache - ready within 30 minutes to provide support. To our left we have a german Jäger Coy and to the right 1/11th ACR. This scenario is dedicated to my good friend Steel Beasts Cavalry aka. Cobra (base). This is a scenario that would follow on to one of my previous and best scenarios, "Gradual Retreat". This one took a while as I wanted to perfect this scenario, It is accurate, ammo types are accurate to the year as well as vehicles, (But just think that the army national guard are still operating the M901's). --- After the gradual retreat scenario, the Soviet forces over run the defensive line and are moving with a large force, but the time bought has been used for our rear forces to establish a 170 Km defensive line, this is last line of defence before the Soviet forces reach France. The rest of the British forces left in the UK are mobilsed and will be in France within the next 16 hours, along with a 4 hr transit time before the first brigade of Challenger 1's can arrive from 4 Royal Tank Regiment. They have been redeployed from the Gulf. US Forces in the area have organised a defensive strategy to reppel the soviet advance, however it is unclear as to whether it will work. 2 ACR is divided into sub groups within sectors, groups 1-8 are defending Alpha section (North), whilst 9-18 are defending Bravo section (South). Each group holds a 10km wide gap, Alpha section stretches 80 Km, leaving bravo section with 90 Km. This 170 Km line is to protect France and Belguim, however France is under threat the most. 3 Group, 2 ACR's forward elements are expected to make contact with scouting elements from the first echelon of a detachment from a Guards divison, the 5th Motorised Infantry Regiment. KANIUM SUNDAY 27TH OF MAY 1800 GMT - "OPERATION JANUS" BY SNS Where: Kanium TS : teamspeak3.i3d.net:10077 World Clock 1800 GMT(Same time as always) World clock 1800 UTC IMPORTANT NOTICE: This SB session may be recorded w. video and sound and uploaded, including to a public youtube channel Everybody is Welcome you don't have to belong to kanium TF 3-78 TOC somewhere near STEINFURT – really early!! “Gentlemen please sit down” Lt Col Sweet looked tired. A coffee in one hand and a cigarette in the other he seemed to fall into his rather rickety folding camping chair. Huddled in his large combat jacket, and non-regulation fleece, he took a sip of coffee and slowly looked around the crowded audience. In the dim light of the tent, the low hum of the Bn TOC at work carried on in the background. “OK, listen up, this IS important. I have just got off a call with the Bde COM – I know it may not look like it right now, but apparently, we are winning. NATO air forces have turned the tide in the north. The Brits, Germans, Belgians and Dutch Corps managed to HOLD the Poles and Soviet 3rd SHOCK Army at the Dutch Border, with a little help from our REFORGER units that managed to get there in time – they made a difference. The French have also gave a good account of themselves, but being French did not stray too far from their own borders. Still………… So, the good news gentlemen is the Soviets are on the defensive, which means we get to ATTACK. Now I will let the staff brief you in a minute, but I wanted to give you my thoughts first, before you all get mired into the detail. I have a very simple mission. Go find the enemy, destroy him quickly to facilitate the CORPS flank attack into the Soviets rear areas. That is the good news. The bad news is I need to do this within the next 6 hours. 5 US Div RESERVE is the lead element of the Corps attack and is already mobilised and on their way here. We can expect to see their forward elements in the next 4 hours. And, the Enemy gets a vote. Our Soviet friends have only just moved into Hasty Defence and I do not want them to be too settled. We gave them a bloody nose, but as you all know they stopped themselves, they still have a lot of combat power. This will not be easy. But be clear, we MUST DESTROY the enemy force to our East and open a path for 5 Div to rapidly exploit. Now listen to the Staff, read the FRAGO and leave questions until the end. Lt Col Sweet stopped and let out a long breath. He looked at each of the TF Commanders in turn and wondered who would still be there for the AAR? 21. Hello all, I have a question, how in real life a TC spots target for his gunner ? I understand that in M1A2, the TC has its CITV, so he can scan using it or just put it on automatic mode while doing other thing and when he see something, he slave the gun on what is saying and after that the 5 words procedure start. But for the M1A1, how they do ? Did they just watch outside with their eyes and binocle and when they saw something they try to move the gun in that proximatly direction or tell to their gunner "tank 2 o'clock 1 kilometer right of a house" and after that the 5 word procedure starts ? Other question. In steel beast and in tank manual that I rode, the "Identify" is used when you see the target that your TC is telling you, but on M1A1 for example, I guess that the TC and gunner are scanning for targets, more than M1A2 because gunner has most the time control of the TIS, I want to say that on M1A1 the gunner is the eyes of the tank when on M1A2 the TC and gunner are the eyes, if a M1A1 gunner see a tank, what does is say ? "Identify tank", "Contact tank", "Tank", what's the word ? M1A1 looks harder to use than the M1A2, because it doesn't have CITV and we have M1A1 and M1A1 (HA) in SB with poor TIS, when today USMC/US Army use M1A1 SA and M1A1 FEP, and I guess these version use better TIS like the M1A2 has. Thank's, sorry for my strange english
