History of Soviet Tanks.

It is possible yes. Truth to be told there was no unification of armor in Soviet tanks and armor package could differ even during the same production year batches.

Of course there are more variants, we have T-80U, T-80U (45M), T-80UE, T-80UK, T-80UE-1, T-80UD, then we have T-84 series.

Well it seems first they say they won't purchase Su-57's because they are "too good", now it seems the same fate faces the "Armata", "Boomerang" and most likely "Kurganets".

What is funny however is how their idiotic propaganda try to camouflage a fact that Russian economy is in bad condition and they simply have no money to afford these new vehicles.

Let's face it, officialy production and purchases will be postponed, in reality it will be cancellation as production will never restart.

Very probable that only small series will be made, for example what was builded till today, and used only for propaganda and parades, and nothing more will be produced.

so  are they relying on updates T72s or is the T90 more prolific?

From what i have read the T-90/ T-72B3/4 will be the primary tanks of the Russian army

For the foreseeable future.

I do think the Russian arms industry will try to export some of there newer designs.

So they can maintain low rate production.

they mite even sell /licence some designs to china as a way of generating revenue

They have done so in the past.

The videos is a couple of years old but it gives a insight in to Russia's deployment strategies

So it seems that Russians more and more talk about "Armata", "Kurganets" and "Boomerang" ceased production, this time, heavy IFV T-15 based on "Armata" chassis, will be replaced by... T-72B based BMO-T APC that will be upgraded.

Also on Gur Khan blog we can read, that there are informations leaking about some unspecified problems with "Armata" and other new vehicles detected during tests.

Watched this video a couple of days ago.

It states the Indian army has purchased T-14/15 platforms for evaluation.

so how much would the T90 Welded turret be improved over say a T80UD welded style turret

any ideas on conposition material  or rough guesstimate how many more MM of protection it would have improvements.

Can M829A3 penetrate the main Turret armor ( Kotact 5 sure is bypassed) given its improvements over the T80UD welded  turret?

So it seems that during Army 2019, Anatoly Tarnayev, chief engineer at Plant no.9 in Yekaterinburg (this plant developes large calliber artillery weapons), said that all research and development work on 152mm high pressure smoothbore tank gun 2A83 had been... cancelled. T-14 MBT's will be armed only with 125mm smoothbore gun 2A82.

This recent post from Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) refers to Russian strategic analysis linking achievement of Russian strategic goals to fundamental reform of its economy: https://www.aspistrategist.org.au/russias-strategic-priorities-viewed-from-within/

A courageous call in today’s political environment but also borne out to a degree in this thread and preceding posts. At least, I linked the two in my mind.

Never say never. They just floated a 90'something cold war ssgn that had its construction halted for almost 30 years!
