BG ANZAC - 02 FEB 0830GMT (with TeamViewer support)

Who is BG ANZAC? http://www.bganzac.org

Described here: http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbforums/showthread.php?t=21753

A couple of examples of the BattleGroup at work:

Multi Player session:

Training session:

So if you are interested, visit our web site http://www.bganzac.org and sign up.

Timings: Thursday evenings, Australian time.

So Daylight Saving has kicked in here and for the next 6 months the country is broken up into yet more time zones.

Next meeting: 0830 GMT on Thursday, February 2nd (Australia Day)

0830 in London

1630 in Perth

1800 in Darwin

1900 in Adelaide

1930 in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra

1830 in Brisbane

2130 in Auckland

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?iso=20170202T0830

This may need to be adjusted given the late start in NZ, perhaps moving to 0800 GMT?

So a work around: Mission will start promptly at 0830 GMT. If you want a pre game "chat" then by all means come on line at say 0800 GMT, but so that the Kiwi's aren't after Midnight the Mission will commence promptly at 0830 GMT.

Count down: http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?iso=20170202T0830

We continue the use of TeamViewer so people without the Steel Beasts software can connect and see and hear what we see and hear (looking over our shoulder if you like).

http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx?pid=google.tv.s.au&gclid=CPLOveOGlcECFVgkvQodqk0A4g

This maybe a suitable vehicle for people to see what the software is all about, without having to invest in even a short time limited copy.

Anyway we'll see how it goes.

Agenda:

As always depends on sign ups but:

1. With a little luck my "Chong Ju" scenario will be completed and we'll start the Offensive Operations, Tutorial and subsequent practice sessions. Will need a critical mass for this to proceed.

2. If there isn't enough for "Chong Ju" (or its not ready) then we'll look at an alternate scenario.

3. Scope for Q & A / Tutorial session - again depends on responses and if people come ready to ask questions.

4. Discussions regarding Rolling Thunder '17, if the key parties make it.

As always, visitors / first timers / spectators are welcome.

Current Standard: 4.010

Please use the new Calendar RSVP function to facilitate planning.

Excellent!  I'm looking forward to this and am swotting up on public-domain Australian and U.S. doctrine as preparation (sad, I know).

A little bit of an arousal for tomorrow night:

Key Points:

1. Reviewing the ground will be useful. ;)

2. The radio orders are a good example of how "we" talk (as opposed to TeamSpeak chat). ;)

3. You wont need to worry about the Counter Attack (maybe in a subsequent scenario).

4. In line with "3." there is no ARH allocated.

I'd guess eBay since you don't live here.

There's been three different patterns / styles to date so some second hand ones are likely the be available.

If you want a nice new set, well just gain citizenship and sign a piece of paper. ;)

If you search for "Australian Multicam uniform" you should get some hits.

Doubt the official acronym would be of much use.

So a good rollup tonight!

Ran an "Principles of Offensive Operations" session with a focus on the attack (real life replay in the video above).

Ideally next week, one of the attendees will come forward with a solution for us to try out.

The Briefing is as follows:

SITUATION:

General:

Date: 29 MAR 16
Time: 1200 Local
Location: "Tuscany of the South"

Combat Team Waler (CT WALER) is moving on the left flank of the BattleGroup.

The attached Cav Troop, V41 has detected enemy to our front. Detailed in the Enemy paragraph.

You have had a brief conversation with the Commanding Officer (CO) and he has instructed you to secure the Enemy Company Security Outpost (CSOP) position. He has also provided you with a suggested Mission statement and Intent.

The rest is up to you ...

Enemy:

1. A reinforced Mech Platoon strength CSOP has been detected vicinity GR 214 112. This has been labelled Objective 1 (OBJ 1).

It is assessed that the CSOP consists of 1 x T-80 and a BTR-80 Platoon, supported by some local obstacles and there are reports of a surface laid minefield vicinity GR 220 105.

A High Priority Target (HPT), an armoured engineering vehicle, has been identified in OBJ 1.

2. Supporting OBJ 1 is an ATGM position vicinity GR 205 115. This has been labelled Objective 2 (OBJ 2).

3. Approx. 1,500m West is the parent Mech Company of the CSOP, vicinity GR 190 118. This has been labelled Objective 3 (OBJ 3). This is the forward element of a main defensive position (MDP), which is the BattleGroup's Objective.

Most Likely Course of Action (MLCOA): Impose delay, attempt to achieve a clean break with the support of the ATGMs and return to OBJ 3.

Most Dangerous Course of Action (MDCOA): Stay and fight. Reinforced by elements from the MDP.

Friendly:

You command CT WALER

This consists of:

I20: CT HQ (3 x M113)
I21: Mech Inf Platoon (5 x M113AS4)
I22: Mech Inf Platoon (5 x M113AS4)
T11: Tank Troop (4 x M1A1 AIM SA)
G60B: Joint Fires Team (JFT)
I25: Logistics pack - 2 x supply trucks, 1 x Medic
I28: RAEME FRT - 1 x M88A1, 1 x Fitters Track (M113)

Attachments/Detachments:

T12: Tank Section
T12A: Tank section with mine ploughs
V41A: 2 x ASLAV-25, 1 x ASLAV-PC
E71: Engineer Section

You have three batteries of 155mm guns in support and access to CAS.

Civilians: N/A

MISSION: CT WALER is to SECURE OBJ 1 within boundaries no later than (NLT) H+2hr

Intent:

Purpose: Protect the BG crossing of Franks Creek

Method: Assessed Enemy's Centre of Gravity (COG) is his ability to retain OBJ 1, defeat this COG through the following Decisive Events (DEs):

1. DISRUPT MDP (OBJ 3) and Overwatch (OBJ 2) with Combat Air Support (CAS).
2. DESTROY HPT
3. SUPPRESS OBJ 1 with ....
4. BREACH obstacle with Engineer assets
5. SECURE OBJ 1 with Armour and Infantry

Endstate: CSOP destroyed, CT(-) firm on OBJ 1 postured to defeat counter attack (CATK) and ready for further tasking.

EXECUTION:

Over to you CT Commander ....

Co-ord

Report Lines - as marked

ADMIN AND LOG:

CT has an echelon.

COMMAND AND SIGNALS:

You are the CT OC.

Designer's Note: Blue players should not "view" the 3D world forward of their start locations to reflect the limited knowledge they would normally have.

Yes, definitely an interesting challenge given the terrain and fairly obvious avenues of approach...

Was going to do a plan for this scenario. Tried to open it to make a copy and it asked for a password.
