AI Focussing device?

Is there a way to explicitly tell the AI to "Ignore the infantry squad 5k away on the far side of the map" and "Shoot the F**king Leopard 2 sitting 200m away on the left?"

Door kickers has a good device.

Where you tell the character to move in direction X and look in direction Y

Figure you could do the same with a tank's turret.

a) No. Become the commander, override.

b) That said,

  • with Shift+Lase you can alert crews about the presence of other threats, which may lead to a reassessment of the priority threat
  • When you spot a target, hitting E will re-orient your entire platoon to that new threat. You can take it from there, e.g. Shift+Arrow Up forces the gunner to focus to the front. Also it presents your strongest armor to the biggest threat, eventually buying you a chance to return fire

No, you can't.

The point is, marking the target with shift+lase ensures that the computer-controlled crew is aware of the target (you may be in a situation where they might not yet have noticed it). ALL targets that the computer-controlled crews know about are constantly being evaluated by a whole host of parameters (distance, direction, their capabilities) to determine the overall threat level, and then sorted in order of perceived threat (and accordingly prioritized).

Like ALL binary logic there may be cases where human players might decide differently. And sometimes you might be right, sometimes you might be wrong. Doesn't matter - it's YOUR decision. But when you're not in the commander's place you are deferring the decision to that prioritization algorithm. And therefore you'll have to live with errors being made. This is the frustration that you will also experience in real life when delegating jobs to others. You never know what's going on in their minds and will sometimes be baffled by the apparent level of stupid, and occasionally be positively surprised. This is why most bosses aren't liked, because they often want the job done differently and react negatively to your initiative. Now you know how it feels on the other end. ;)
