Stopping gunner from scanning

What I have noticed with the latest release is that the gunner is constantly swinging the turret left & right and over and over again non stop. Now this has been there in prior versions as well but not at such speed. Is there a way to tell the gunner to cool it. It's very annoying. Commander's gunner scan front order overrides it for a couple of seconds. I have been using the M1A2 lately - and this is constantly present. I can post a video as well if its not clear what I refer to.

Well, the swing motion was "enhanced" because he wasn't doing enough of it before. He now keeps searching until he has spotted something, rather than doing a single sweep and then keeping the turret more or less fixed in one direction, before finally resuming his normal scanning.

Maybe the current routine isn't too realistic either, but at least it delivers better results. That being said, I suppose there's always room for improvement.

The command given to the gunner is "scan left/right/front".

This new method of very active AI turret movement IS realistic, and it was changed because the old method where the gunner would move the turret to a direction and sit there, unresponsive, which was just dead wrong. A gunner not scanning in this case would quickly get a boot missile in the back of the head. Basically that old behavior stunned the gunner for some seconds, and the gunner was unresponsive, which is a no-no in real life.

In real life, if the commander instructs the gunner to scan in a specific direction, then the gunner traverses the turret to the area and actually picks up a scan. This scan is very active and vigorous because the commander just told him to investigate an area of interest or concern. This is how it works now with the changes, and it works well: the AI gunner will now pick up targets properly with this active scanning method.

That said, it probably doesn't help when you are making videos and you just want the tank to look pretty, keeping the turret in a specific direction as if it is looking at something. But that is not really our concern. :|

What we probably need one day is a "put the gun over the front/left/right/rear" command which does cause the AI to put it there, and sit unresponsive. This would be when the tank is traversing terrain where the gun might hit an object, like a tree or building. However there is no such collision at the moment, so it doesn't really make sense to have this other than for looks, therefore it is not a priority at the moment.

well this bit is not an issue as there are multiple methods of fixing it for camera purposes.

+1 for that option (someday) ^_^
