Main Menu Redesign

During May and June of last year, the final assignment for my Graphic Design 4 class was to create whatever we wanted. I chose to have some fun and try redesigning the main menu of Steel Beasts Pro. The objective I established was to redesign the Steel Beasts Pro PE menu in a way that makes use of greater hierarchy and contrast while maintaining a layout that would be easy for veteran players to adjust to.

 

 

To the left is the current menu with the default background, and to the right is the redesigned menu with the default background (All photos depict a 1920 x 1080 screen resolution):

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Here is what the redesigned menu would look like with a few custom Splash Screens, the first two backgrounds are taken from screenshots posted by Lusik to pg. 105 of the "We love screenshots" thread:

For those of you wondering if the X in the top right is to close the game, you're correct. I don't remember why I put it there, nor why it turned pink in the redline.

That's all there is to it, feel free to comment what you think about the redesign. Please note that this is not a request the development team to use my redesign.

I think the larger,bolder text looks pretty good, but i personally prefer the menu groups being offset to the left and right of centre

I guess for personal use you can do whatever interests you - my concern is when I'm on the 'phone to someone and say "2nd Menu option on the left" and their screen is laid out differently to mine.

Appreciate what you are trying to do here.

But, I actually like the way the menu system works now. I mean; it just works.

Don't feel put off by my comments though, I'd be the first to recognize improved functionality.

I agree with Gibsonm,

 

Can we just make the letters bigger on 1920 x 1080? The text is insanely small on the menu screen at that resolution.

In that case I would just tell them to hit "Instant Action"
