Some screenshots to set the scene for Mission 1 at least.

If the units look good, its probably thanks to Splash's Skins.

At first the targets were easy:

Then they got bigger:

And Bigger:

Then "Contact Dust!":

I wonder what is causing that? ....

Then the real fun began

84 Team engaging a HIP:

OC helping to "hose down" the runway:

And leading by example with a Hind:

Well that was a great experience in the tradition of RTs! Thanks Mark, Panzer-Leader, Mirzayez and others for hosting, planning and skippering Blue Green and Red. A real appreciation of what a 1990s Australian outfit would have had to deal with. I played missions 1 and 2 right through but had to bail on mission 3 with 20 minutes to go (easter sunday family things commencing).

Mission 1 - I (with DBoy) was leftmost recce callsign (M113 and Scorpion. Managed to kill a PT76, a Hind and some infantry before being steadily attrited down at the airbase. Tempo means everything and Red could push hard, meaning lots of repositioning and desperate close-range fights.

sbrt02.jpg

21 dismounts destroy ENY PT76 after it survived a belt of .50 frontally. An LMG operator was killed and this meant I couldn't remount my infantry, so had to leave them in place

sbrt03.jpg

.50 did prove deadly to this Hind down near the Williamson airfield when Red air were dropping troops

sbrt04.jpg

Clearing up some air-dropped infantry with DBoy

sbrt05.jpg

... before a red RPG takes out my track

Mission 2 - i had a troop of Leopard AS1 supporting ASLAV recce moving to contact on the east of the AO. We didn't cover the road well enough and red sneaked a bunch of stuff south. There was some bumping into each other and some close range fights.

sbrt06.jpg

Here one of my Leopards hits a Naval T55 close in.

sbrt07.jpg

More knife-fights with T55s

sbrt08.jpg

And some more

Mission 3 - pre-dawn, stumbling around as we assault north. I'm in V11 ASLAV in the east of the AO, aiming to seize OBJ Baird - Huttonvale Outstation, a crossing point for Moody Creek and the door to red's landing area. I had bad lag from the get-go in this scenario, with friendly and enemy units sliding, airborne and bouncing around. Very hard to hit anything and shamefully I was responsible for (and the victim of) blue on blue incidents.

We got to OBJ Baird after bumping into a red motorcycle and the objective seemed clear, though the bridges we needed were down. At this point I should have realised Baird was a trap and got out quickly - infantry left behind along the creekline hit my ASLAVs as we crossed and then pre-plotted ICM strikes smashed our forces there. It was nasty fight with the red infantry having the upper hand.

sbrt09.jpg

My lead ASLAV is potted by a red RPG gunner as I ford

sbrt10.jpg

And here comes the ICM. Well-played Red.

After this, my leftover callsign killed some enemy infantry and some friendly in the confusion, before joining in the push for the final objective, assaulting, with Connaugh's tanks, a strongpoint of dug in enemy armour and IFVs as Mirzayev's helos guided us in. My ASLAV was disabled by some friendly fire and at that point I had to bail...

Thanks once again - a great experience and a pleasure to play with others from around the world.

PS - final image of some of the graphical hijinks i was experiencing...

From Smithcorp:

My ASLAV was disabled by some friendly fire and at that point I had to bail

It was me. I was spraying infantry with coax and inadvertently hit Smithcorp's Aslav.

Would not think that 7.62 mm would immobilize it but it did. Sorry.

You're welcome.

Planning for RT '19 starts this Thursday night.

As per convention, 5yrs is a little short to call it "tradition", it will be somewhere other than Australian (likely Europe) but more news as the plan evolves. :)

Haha - no problems Conn - I had killed a whole section of Blue dismounts earlier in the mission, so I had it coming.

I guess it depends on "disabled", but flat tyres, busted sights, killed crew commander, sure.
