The armour was banned after troops in Iraq started ordering it and having it sent to them by family and friends back home. Then a stink started to be raised when a US Army allowance that the troops received to buy personal kit was revoked. Sure, there were problems with the armour platelets coming loose, and apparently that's been fixed. I can't say whether it's as good or as bad as either side claims it to be. As I recall, nobody, and that includes the phony media gave a big harry squat about what equipment we had or didn't have in Vietnam.
