Homer
In case anyone wondered whatever became of this incident...California: Pilots Punished for Photo OpBy THE ASSOCIATED PRESSPublished: December 23, 2010A Navy crew has been disciplined for dipping two helicopters into Lake Tahoe to take photos for the squadron’s Facebook page. Two Navy instructor pilots were permanently stripped of flying status, and two student pilots will have to repeat training because of the Sept. 13 incident. Repairs to the helicopters cost $505,000. A Navy report, released Wednesday, says the crew tried to hover the Seahawk helicopters just above the water in Emerald Bay. Both aircraft went into the water but were able to regain altitude and land. There were no injuries.http://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/24/us/24brfs-PILOTSPUNISH_BRF.html?ref=usnavy

Members Ssnake
That Wikipedia article to which you linked already says that there are a mere three lakes in the workd known to exhibit this behavior, all in relative close proximity to each other in Central Africa.Lake Tahoe is none of them.
Mogwa
I have it on good authority that you can get a uh-60 type aircraft into the water for photo ops without the settling with power type manuevers they employed.Mog
