Gibsonm
On which vehicle?A lot of the them carry it in different mounts so the technique used tends to be vehicle specific.
GaryOwen
For the M1:Once the user is at the CWS gun sight, the user can traverse the cupola using either the mouse, joystick (both of which represent the cupola's powered traverse mode), or by tapping the LEFT ARROW and RIGHT ARROW keys (the cupola's manual traverse mode). While the real life cupola has a powered motor for traverse (with the option for the TC to spin the cupola manually), the real cupola has no powered mechanism for elevation and must be elevated and depressed by the use of a small hand crank. With that in mind, the elevation of the caliber .50 can only be done by use of the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys. In both cases where the arrow pad is used for elevation and traverse, quicker taps of the arrow keys will result in faster sight movement.http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbwiki/index.php/M1A1_%28HA%29#Commander.27s_Weapon_Station_.28CWS.29

Bekro
The armor kit provided by IBD all the optics and fire control systems as well as remote control weapon station are Turkish made. Gun is still L 44, they couldnt implement L 55 as it was causing lots of problems. It is possiblly cheaper than Rheinmatell's upgrade package.

Grenny
Keys are a Shift + F6.Thats pointless...it does not simulate putting 40 pound ammo pieces into the breach :-P
Moderators Volcano Posted May 24, 2011 Moderators Share Posted May 24, 2011 Would need a mini game, Loader constantly has to look where the ammo is, click on a round where it then becomes attached to the mouse pointer, then look over at breech and slide it in just right (stop thinking dirty), then arm the gun. Gun fires, press button / handle to disarm the breach and repeat over and over again! Then, you might get a few seconds in the whole mission to fire the LMG.

That is actually quite a good idea - or you could also have it a sort of QTE style (Quick Time Event). Would be interesting to see, a nerds like me would probably even like it
Grenny
On Bushmaster GPMG worked... Yes, in the Bushmaster a MG-gunner mans the LMG. On a tank, the LOADER has to LOAD the main gun. 99,9% of the time(in SB missions) there is no practical reason for him to be at the MG. E-sim should implement a ton of other things first, befor investing time into something with 0,01% relevance!
mp96
Coaxial machine gun down, enemy troops around. Top machine gun NO playable, tank down, crew dead, end game.
Gibsonm
Guess you haven’t heard of Canister, multi barrelled smoke grenade dischargers, or even the ability of the tank to move somewhere else (like away from the danger area so they can repair the coax)? The loader opening up and doing some “spray and pray” with the pintle MG just exposes a crewman to a bunch of other risks.Sure there are some instances where the loader should man the MG, but his primary role is to serve the main gun (oh and make brews).
MAJ_Fubar
Sure there are some instances where the loader should man the MG, but his primary role is to serve the main gun (oh and make brews). Not to mention fiddle with the radios, pull LP/OP in the defence, pull maintenance on the breech and anything the driver has fobbed off on him, and, on the M1A2 at least, run the FBCB2 for the TC who's too busy hanging out the hatch in a desperate bid to maintain "situational awareness".
Gibsonm
Agreed. There’s a “bunch” of stuff he needs to get on with, I just wanted to mention a couple (otherwise I’d end up having to copy the crew task list from my SOPs ).
Grenny
Coaxial machine gun down, enemy troops around. Top machine gun NO playable, tank down, crew dead, end game.If you put your tank in a position where the loaders MG is the only hope left...the tank is dead anyway(you've done it wrong dude :-P ).If there are troops in range of the loeader-MG, he is also in their range. (besides the fact that most tankies suck with rifles/MGs 8-) )So the drill would be:Coaxial machine gun down, enemy troops around. Top machine gun manned by loader, loader dead after 5sec., hatch open, hand grenade into hatch, crew dead, end game. So, whats the differnce??

Grenny
Got to watch out for those recon dudes sneaking up on you. Well, I pulled similar stunts in AGDUS/MILES training. I real life I would think twice about it...probaly you'll get a rifle butt at the back of your head for giving the order for such a raid ;-) Recon teams would report the tanks position and then slip away...
Hedgehog
When this situation is simulated my response is usually: "Driver/Platoon! Reverse!" **Thump. Squelch.** "What was that?" "Doesn't matter, keep going."
