MAJ_Fubar
Noting the gap in the OPFOR's stable regarding the T-72/T-80BV tanks, I figured a T-74M4 less the Commanders viewer and thermals would make a good substitute, so I whipped up a tri-color skin for it. Being a stickler for uniformity I went ahead and did the T-72M as well. One thing led to another and now I'm redoing both BMPs and the MTLB...perhaps the MT-55 too. The tanks are basically done, and though they're not quite grubby enough, consider them a work in progress with updates to follow. I'll submit them sometime tomorrow. The BMP-1 is also finished, but lacking markings. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Lastly I'd like to thank dpAbrams for letting me use his excellent sprocket texture.

Captain_Colossus
Those BMP skinds are a pain. You did a good job on lining up the pattern. I would add some weathering to give it a little depth. But you have a good foundation here.
MAJ_Fubar
Being a low resolution skin, I don't have much to work with, but you're right, it does need more weathering. I'll just have to be careful though, too much and I'll lose saturation. It took awhile to get the colors somewhere between the various tanks and Congo's BTR while still making it look dusty... Perhaps I'll focus on highlighting the edges and chipping up the fenders, skirts, and bow plate for the desired effect.

congo
Those BMP skinds are a pain. You did a good job on lining up the pattern. I would add some weathering to give it a little depth. But you have a good foundation here. A good way to line up paint schemes is by laying out the uv map as if it were unfolded. You will need to use your paint programs editing and scaling features as you cut and paste all the relative parts and maintain the layers you generate. Then it is just a matter of re-scaling the layers and placing them back on the original uv map. The sides of the turret can be a bit tricky but again save the demarcationed camo as layers so they are easily repositioned. Shapes on individual facets can vary as long as they line up at the parting point. Here are some examples . MAJ_Fubar
The tanks have been submitted and should be available soon. Sexier versions will appear in the future. After increasing the resolution, work on the BMP-1 is proceeding apace but, as I feared, "detail creep" has taken hold, pushing completion back by at least another week. Ah well, something to focus my detail oriented mind on.

MAJ_Fubar
An update! With all of the beautiful skins appearing with the release of v2.640 I thought I'd add a little more. The BMP-1 below is complete, and with just a couple of tweaks should be posted forthwith. Continuing with the tri-color scheme, I felt the need for a matching T-72 roof texture as well. Intended to work with Hackworth's T-72 Pack #2, I tried to match the colors and added surface details in line with the exterior model. Just posted as of this, it should be available soon. Lastly the BMP-2, still in its DDR livery, is about 95% complete. There are a still a few misaligned textures, and although Deja's template is beautiful to behold, it's still not quite grubby enough IMO, so there's yet work to be done...
Zipuli
Nice! And a BMD-2 in similar camo would be much appreciated! Edited January 14, 2012 by Zipuli
MAJ_Fubar
Checking my mod folder confirmed my suspicion that the default autumn BMD-2 skin is already in the three-color scheme. In fact I tried to place my colors somewhere between the default BMD, Congo's BTR, and the various T-tank mods so my skins would blend in.
Zipuli
Oh, so it seems! Nice =)Back in the day the BTR was made to blend in with the T-80U, so perhaps no single skin will stand out from the others then, colourwise.

Panzer_Leader
Very nice work MAJ_Fubar. Out of curiosity, what units and/or time period does the three colour camouflage apply to versus the dark green scheme of dpabram's mods (which I'm currently using)?
dpabrams
Out of curiosity, what units and/or time period does the three colour camouflage apply to versus the dark green scheme of dpabram's mods (which I'm currently using)?Fubar is using the 3 color disruptive camo that was factory applied to Soviet AFVs in the late 80's. Similiar to the US MERDC. Dark green, gray-yellow and black crows feet.
MAJ_Fubar
I use both, '70s green for the "Red" side and 3 color for the "Blue" for summer themes, and the reverse for autumn themes.
JohnO
I use both, '70s green for the "Red" side and 3 color for the "Blue" for summer themes, and the reverse for autumn themes. First want to say what a great job you guys do to make the sim look better. Ok now school me My scenario is during the early part of 1990s, what vehicle skin should the CCCP and the US be during that time frame, summer and autumn?
dpabrams
My scenario is during the early part of 1990s, what vehicle skin should the CCCP and the US be during that time frame, summer and autumn? The US would be almost entirely in the 3 color CARC. All those M1A1(HA) and M2A2 were all factory painted CARC. Same goes for the Hummer's. You will still see a bit of mix for the M113 family. Some in forest green, some in MERDC and some in 3-color (especially the M113A3's). As for the Soviets, you will see a mix of AFVs in the the 3-color disruptive (factory applied), classic one color dark green and a funky camo that GSFG had that was dark green, medium gray and medium brown. This was applied in the field over dark green vehicles. I have only seen it on BMP-2s and T-80s. Here is a pic.

MAJ_Fubar
Another update: the BMP-1 skin has been submitted. I should get the BMP-2 done sometime this week, then I think I'll start on the MTLB...and maybe the MT-55 as well.
