And there I was thinking there was supposed to be a ban on selling T-72's to Ethiopia!!.

If I remember my Russian cyrillic alphabet correctly, letters below read PULOF. Anyone knows what that means in Russian and what is the purpose of this sign there?

this video demonstrates fairly well the mindset of the time.

the west was already fairly respectful of the T-62, and then the russians made the T-72...

This video is really interesting and brings you back to the Cold War era.
