This is probably the more appropriate thread to ask this in,

New key features:

Any infantry unit may mount any vehicles

(the days of the parent-child relationship are over)

Just wondering now that the above parent-child relationship is no more, what this now means when a Platoon command of "Load Troops" ( Shift + U) is given. Does the Infantry that came with the vehicle automatically embark in their original vehicle or will you need to select a vehicle and tell it to load Infantry from a selection list of Infantry near the vehicle or is it the Infantry nearest to a vehicle that will jump into it.

Apologies if this has already been answered, I've looked but didn't find anything on this.

Cheers :)

Of course we didn't atomize the user interface where it worked perfectly fine. Preference will be given to the original troops. But you have the ability to load OTHER troops as well, if so desired. The beta testers are free to explain the details (if they want).

So we can load a pair of RPG guys in a random pickup truck, drive to an ambush location, dismount them, attack and kill the invader, then drive back in town and have a beer?

Looks great :) That will add mobility to the troops and much more importance to troop trucks

Yup, with a different pickup truck if you so desire! :eek2:

(And the original one can go and collect a group of ladies of ill repute to liven up the celebrations!

You can have for example a platoon of infantry waiting somewhere, then drive a platoon of empty trucks in the location with waypoint order mount troops. When the trucks arrive at the location of the infantry, the infantry will load the trucks. Now have the trucks drive to location B with waypoint order to dismount and have a helicopter fly there with waypoint order to mount. The troops will get out of the trucks and mount the choppers. Etc. So this can be done with scripting and in planning phase quite easily.

U and Shift+U work like before, with a twist. For example you start a mission with empty APC and load any inf/weapon teams in it (like in current PE version), then you can dismount and mount them with the U and Shift+U commands (the inf is now appointed to this said APC).

Also you may now change the infantry teams that come with vehicles to other types, for example change the 2 teams that come with an APC into 2 AGL teams... etc.

IIRC it is currently possible to force inf that dismounted from one vehicle to mount up on another so long as the original vehicle is a long way away (or dead) and the new vehicle is VERY close to the troops. But it often requires a couple of attempts - which is not great when time is pressing. The new feature - and many other improvements - will make Mech Inf operations a lot more satisfying. :)

They do take advantage to the extent that they will crawl when adjusting position while being prone - that directly increases their overall survivability. Beyond that, you can't put them on mile long sprints - they will exhaust themselves quickly, and need some time to recover. That's not exactly "taking advantage", but it somewhat improves the overall realism, which is good in our opinion. ;)
