Hello Everyone ,

Does anyone know how the firecontrol setup looks like in the latest Merkava 3 and 4s?

The mighty Leclerc has the following Specs:

Gunner

- HL-60 (SAGEM)

* day channel x3.3 x10 (x14 for UAE version)

* night channel TI x3 x6 x10 x20 ATOS or IRIS

- emergency sight - No

Laser - Nd:YAG 1.06 μm

HL-60 Gunners Primary Sight View:

with detail for 2

leclerc_rs-2.jpg

Tank Commander

- 7 periscopes

- HL-70 (SFIM)

* day channel x2,5 x10

* night channel passive Night Vision x2,5

HL-70 / HL-80 Panoramic sight view:

leclerc_kdt-1.jpg

-HL-80 (Serie XXI)

*day channel x2.5 x10

*night channel Thermal Intensifier Iris

Laser - Nd:YAG 1.06 μm

Firing main gun

- HL-70 (or HL 80 for UAE, XXI version)

- HL-60

Stabilisation

Main gun - 2 axis, electromechanical

(medium error of stabilization 0,15-0,20 mrad vertical, 0,3-0,4 mrad horizontal)

HL-60 - 2 axis

HL-70 - 2 axis

hunter-killer (day) - yes

hunter-killer (night) - yes

Autotracker for gunner and tank commander - Yes

While tracking the target, the gunner (or commander) must press the laser rangefinder button for at least three seconds. During that time, the computer calculates the horizontal and vertical speed of the target as well as the distance. If the target changes its movement abruptly, the gunner must (dump the lead?) and restart the engagement procedure and track the target manually again.

P.S. Thanks Froggy

Autotracker: no

Semi auto-tracker: yes

Press more than 1s and the semi-autotracker will provide an help for fine track .

if the target changes attitude, just keep the crossair on the target...

  • 7 years later...

Just watched a YouTube documentary on the Merkava and wondered if there was enough info to make it playable ion SBProPE... I wasn't surprised. Loose lips sink ships.

I mean, as cool as Democracy is for fanbois like me, it's a lot of free intel for the enemy as well.

On the one hand, it is. On the other, what benefit will an adversary draw from knowledge about, essentially, a user interface?

All fire control systems provide a solution to the old problem of hitting a moving target from a moving platform when the projectile is on a highly deterministic trajectory. There are only so many ways how you can solve it on the functional level. How you present it to the crew is another question.
