general billy
Is there any information that can easily explain tank tactics regarding formations and when to use the different types ?
general billy
There is some explanation in the manual, and I understand they are some pdf manuals. How do players use formations in SB pro especially online play?
Administrators Sean Posted August 15, 2007 Administrators Share Posted August 15, 2007 You need to read the stuff in the PDF library - specifically the army field manuals uploaded by Gary Owen. Armed with this information, you can then sit down and sort out what looks like it might work in Steel Beasts and what might not. Then you can experiment and try to apply what you learned to SB. Its also helpful to observe what other people are doing in the AAR and learn from that. What tactics get used depends on the mission, the type of terrain, force dispositions, and known predispositions of your opponent.

Norfolk
There is also ST 3-20.153 Tank Platoon SOP; it's about half as long as FM 17-15 Tank Platoon, and is the companion ST to the current FM 3-20.15 Tank Platoon. Apologies for the necropost.
GaryOwen
You need to read the stuff in the PDF library.Given Billy's previous dismissals of the study of boring doctrine, I doubt that that is what he's inquiring about. However, M1 Tank Platoon 2 had a good video presentation of the different platoon formations and battle drills. I'd suggest looking at that if a copy is available.I found a copy of it on youtube awhile back, but I think that it was removed because of copyright infringement. Otherwise, I'd offer a link to the *.mpg version of it here.
general billy
Actually Ive gotten alot of stuff from The Generals Site it helps alot for Steel Beast and in general planning http://armchairgeneral.com/index.php?cat=71  Regarding formations, as Sean said its really depends on what tactics get used depending on the mission, the type of terrain, force dispositions, and known predispositions of your opponent. However if you want the US tank army field manual. (Credits once again duefully given to Mr Owen) Knock yourself out http://www.steelbeasts.com/Downloads/p13_sectionid/250/p13_fileid/474 Another ongoing discussion on formations and tactics http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbforums/showthread.php?t=11662
