  2. THE GRAN CHACO - BOLIVIA-PARAGUAY- PART TWO

THE GRAN CHACO  - BOLIVIA-PARAGUAY - PART TWO

    By Connaugh

The Chaco War (1932–1935); was fought between Bolivia and Paraguay over control of the northern part of the Gran Chaco region of South America which was thought to be rich in oil. It is also referred to as La Guerra de la Sed (Spanish for "The War of Thirst") in literary circles, for being fought in the semi-arid Chaco. The origin of the war is commonly attributed to a long-standing territorial dispute and the discovery of oil deposits on the Andean plains. In 1929, the Treaty of Lima ended the hopes of the Bolivian government of recovering a land corridor to the Pacific Ocean, which was thought imperative to further development and trade. Both Bolivia and Paraguay were landlocked. Though the Chaco was sparsely populated, control of the Paraguay River running through it provided access to the Atlantic Ocean. This became especially important to Bolivia, which had lost its Pacific coast to Chile in the 1879 War of the Pacific.

     SITUATION:

Bolivia has invaded the Gran Chaco again in an attempt to gain control of the region.

    MISSION:

Paraguayan forces are to advance into the Gran Chaco region and relieve  Nanawa which is being besieged by Bolivian forces. Then, an advance is to be made to capture Boqeuron, Isla Poi, Picuiba, Alihuata, Campo Via, Corrales, Toledo, El Carmen and then carry the war into Bolivia and capture Canada Strongest.

    EXECUTION:

Northern Force will advance from Puerto Casado and capture Boqeron, Isla Poi,  Picuiba, and El Carmen.
Southern Force will advance from Asuncion and relieve the siege at Nanawa, then advance to capture Alihuata, Camp Via, Corrales, and Toledo.
The two forces will then combine to cross into Bolivia and assault Canada Strongest.

    FORCE COMPOSTION:

    Northern Force:             1 x Leopard 1A5 Platoon
                                          1 x Centauro Platoon
                                          1 x Motorized Infantry Platoon

    Southern Force:             1 x Leopard 1A5 Platoon
                                          1 x Centauro Platoon
                                          1 x Motorized Infantry Platoon

CSS of Repair, Medical, and Supply will accompany each force.
2 Artillery Batteries of 6 tubes each will be available.

Bolivian forces include TAM VC tanks and Infantry with Anti-tank weapons.
    Artillery is expected.

A message will be generated when an objective is recaptured.

  9. ARRC Missions 1 and 2

Missions will play as complex single player but also as CO-OP.

    Mission 1:

    1) SITUATION:

    a) Enemy:

Pol: Following intense and scheduled period of summer manoeuvre exercises, the armed forces of the People Republic of COTTUS (PROC) have commenced unprovoked hostilities against neighbouring MAGOG. It is thought that due to the worsening situation in the PROC economy the PROC leadership have decided that it needs to seize the oil rich region in MAGOG.

Mil: The PROC Land Forces consist of 2 x Combined Arms Army Corps (CAAC). Recent Military expenditure has seen both CAACs upgraded to include predominantly Russian equipment including the following: MBT = T72 and T80, AFV = BMP 1 and 2 and M113, Avn = Hind and CH47. Both CAACs have significant amounts of arty integral down to Bn level. Engr assets are also concentrated forward to Bn level. It is assessed that the PROC Arty is CBRN capable but command for the release of agent is held at senior governmental level.

Current Situation: You are facing the initial elements of the 1st Ech 1 CAAC (1/1 CAAC) It is assessed the initial objectives are the river crossings and significant centres of population. Crossing will need to be seized in order to allow the send Ech of 1/1 CAAC to continue the advance. Initial elements are likely to include Recce, Armour and Armd Inf. It is also expected that Avn will be operating in your sector both AH and SH.

    b) Own:

Pol: Widespread condemnation of the PROC actions has been heard from the wider international community. As a NATO member state MAGOG has requested that Article 5 be sanctioned by the NATO council. NATO have agreed and has commenced preparation to launch the NATO Response Force (NRF) to MAGOG to reinforce the MAGOG LF (MLF). Member states have also been tasked to ready and deploy ARRC units for the impending deployment to MAGOG.

Mil: NRF forces have deployed to MAGOG and are prepared to assist in the defence of MAGOG sovereignty. These forces are particularly light and will be able to provide limited assistance to the 3 MLF Bdes. ARRC units will be combat ready within 10 days. Fighting Units of the ARRC will consist of 1 UK Armd Div, 1 Deu Pz Div, 1st US Armd Div and the British 16 Air Assault Bde. SF are provided by UK and US.

Current Situation: Pls from A Coy, 2nd Inf Regt of 3 MLF Mech Bde have established defensive positions covering the major river xing sites at UNTERBREIZBACH, RASA and to the SW of RASA. Bde Recce assets have pushed forward to cover likely routes for the PROC adv, this is expected to be from the direction of VACHA. The Coy have been reinforced by a Tp of Leo 1 A5s from the 2nd Royal MAGOG Dragoon Guards (2RMDG)(1 Tp A Sqn 2RMDG). 6 x Leo 2 A5s have also moved forward from the NRF in order to reinforce. A further two Tps (8) of Leo 2 A4 are available in reserve.

    2) MISSION:

    DEFEND and DELAY

In order to allow ARRC more time in which to deploy.

    Mission 2:

    1) SITUATION:

    a) Enemy:

Pol: The Commencement of hostilities by the PROC Government has caused widespread condemnation from the Global community. Diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis have made little to no progress.

Mil: Initial operations of PROC LF have been successful catching MAGOG LF and NATO unprepared. Losses have been taken but PROC Units are not thought to be less than 80% Combat Effective at Subunit level.

Current Situation: Initial element of 1/1 CAAC have secured river crossings in the KONRODE HOHENRODA MANSBACH Triangle. It is expected that follow on forces will exploit these early successes in order to press home the current advantage. PROC forces are expected to advance in order to secure further crossings and geographical objectives on the line EITEFELD LEIBLZ GROBENTAFT RASDORF. GROBENTAFT and RASDORF both have large concentration of Ethnic Cottosians who are likely to support the PROC action. Size and capability of PROC Forces in your AOR are currently unknown but it is at least 1 to 2 Coy size groupings should be expected. PROC still hold a significant AVN capability in both AH and SH. Airmobile forces could be employed to secure choke points on the axis of advance.

    b) Own:

Pol: Diplomatic effort are being stepped up but at this time the PROC government are not receptive to any negotiations. NATO forces have been deployed in support of MAGOG under NATO Atricle 5. NRF forces have provided the spearhead with HQ ARRC providing the bulk of the Combat power.

Mil: Deployment of NRF forces in complete. In addition the ARRC has deployed in the region of 70% of it capability. MLF Bdes continue to delay the advance of PROC forces but this is proving costly. Timely reinforcement is critical.

Current Situation: MLF forces have withdrawn in order to prepare defence positions to the SW of KIRKHASEL. A Sqn and B Coy are tasked to delay, disrupt and if possible stop, the expected enemy advance SW from NE of PL MINNOW. A Sqn and B Coy have been reinforced with an 8 car Recce Tp. In addition a number of MAGOG reservists have decided to stay and defend their homes. These Tps are dismounted and have limited manoeuvre capability. Support must be given where capability can be spared.

    2) MISSION:

    DELAY

In order to allow MLF time to prepare Main Defensive areas SW of PL TROUT.

    Enjoy - feedback always great!

  11. UKKO's HAMMER

As a reserve company in a battlegroup fighting in delay, counterattack to stop an enemy mechanized battalion on its tracks. You have 2 platoons of Leopard 2A4s, 2 platoons of CV9030 and supporting platoons of engineer, logistics and ATGMs. Your mission is to inflict maximum casualties to the enemy while keeping yours low, and when ordered to, break contact and withdraw to battlegroup's main body. Difficulty and realism: high. Best played as MP COOP on blue side. Also suited for SP. Red side (and other bluefor) is fully scripted with a few possible courses of action against you.

An AAR (with spoilers!) can be seen here. Can you outperform "Multinational Task Force Duke"?

  15. Jaala Rescue Operation (3.002)

An enemy airborne unit is assaulting Jaala, and a friendly supply convoy is caught in the middle. Your mechanized company is rushed to the scene in order to get to the stranded POGs. Secure an LZ and make sure the friendly unit is extracted to safety. The town of Jaala hasn't been evacuated of civilians, as the enemy attack was a complete surprise, so you need to watch your fire! Our forces causing civilian casualties will have a devastating effect on their morale! It's still dark, but not for long. Take advantage of it and move quickly.

Own force: A mechanized company (Leo 2A4, CV9030) with supporting mortars, Spike ATGMs, mini-UAV and CSS unit.

Enemy force: ? (but chopper inserted...)

This mission is best suited for multiplayer COOP. There are 2 versions of the scenario in the package: one with blue force tracking only (enemies are not automatically shown on map), recommended for full athmosphere and difficulty in command&control, not to mention indirect support. The other has full map updates, but is for pu****s. ;)

  17. Brave Rifles - Where the Eagles Dare (2.654)

    June 15th, 1988 - World War III

3ACR is attacking via Porta Westfalica towards Stadthagen to stop the enemy main forces from linking up with airborne troops that hold the bridges over Weser at Minden. 1st Squadron has cleared its way through town of Klus to Achum and is preparing to engage the enemy main body.

2nd Squadron "Sabre" is following behind and will push north to cross Mittel-Land-Kanal to completely cut off the airborne troopers in Minden as well as to secure the 3ACR northern flank. Intel says the enemy has sent a battalion size forward detachment to link up with the troops in Minden and to flank 3ACR.

"Eagle" Troop from 2nd Squadron is attacking on point. Their mission is to bypass Minden and cross the Mittel-Land-Kanal and hold. You have 13 M3 CFVs and 9 M1A1s plus supporting units and artillery. Something tells you that this won't be a walk in a park...

This scenario takes place during the original Brave Rifles Campaign.

Dedicated to cobrabase. Hope there's enough challenge for you in this one! ;)
