  4. Company Team Bannon - Hold Obj Link

Company Team Bannon - OBJ Link

    04 AUG 1986, Kernsbach.
The Cold War has gone hot and we're a couple days into the Third World War.  Warsaw Pact and NATO forces are engaged in central Europe.  The local situation is very fluid.  Captain Bannon, your M1(IP) tank company is attached to a mechanized infantry battalion task force, TF 3/78 Inf.  The battalion spent the previous night road marching.  It is now ordered to conduct a forward passage of lines through the position of remaining elements of TF 2/93 Inf, who have been overwatching crossing points of the Kerns river along an important north/south line of communication.  TF 2/93 Inf has one mech company at Kernsbach guarding the Althausen crossing and their scout platoon is overwatching the crossing near the village of Lemm.  They report that there has been enemy activity in Althausen and Lemm and suspect that the bridges in these locations are covered with obstacles.  They also report that the Kerns should be fordable for tanks along the stretch just north of the scout platoon screen position.  The terrain feature opposite the 2/93 scouts just north of the river, marked on the map as OBJ LOG, is suspected to be occupied by a reinforced motor rifle company.
Our battalion, 3/78 Infantry, will pass forward to clear and hold the village of Arnsdorf in order to secure the line of communication.  Your company team currently consists of one mechanzied infantry platoon, two tank platoons-your third platoon is short one tank lost to mechanical breakdown during last night's road march, your tank, the XO's tank, and an attached fire support team.  Bravo Company is in place and the battalion mortar platoon is on-site.  However, the task force became separated during the night road march and Charlie Company has not yet arrived.  Nevertheless, the battalion commander has just directed you in very clear terms that your team will, without delay, cross the Kerns river and secure OBJ LOG.  You will then also clear and secure OBJ Link.  After OBJ LINK is cleared, Bravo Company will move to clear Vogelburg, and Charlie Company -provided they make it here- will move to clear Arnsdorf.  You presently have priority of fire for the mortars.

    *************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
    Designer's notes:
This scenario depicts a set of battles described in Harold Coyle's novel, 'Team Yankee'.  The battles, as described, take place over the span of several hours.  The company team takes significant losses securing LOG and then loses contact with the battalion as it clears LINK.  The remaining elements of the team hold at LINK for the night, waiting to re-establish contact the following day.  That night a motor rifle battalion counterattacks. This scenario generally follows the depiction with some slight modifications for gameplay. The scenario does not have a time limit and is designed to take place between 1900 hrs 04 AUG 1986 until about 0100 hrs 05 AUG 1986.  It is intended that the player may manage the time using the pause, save game, and F12 time compression function.  The F12 function compresses time if there is no contact between opposing forces. The player is tasked with clearing OBJ LOG and OBJ LINK, and then defends OBJ LINK from a counterattack.  The counterattacking forces do not spawn until 'H-Hour', which is set as 2300 hrs.  After spawning, the counterattacking forces take about 45 minutes to deploy before launching the counterattack.  After clearing both objectives and preparing to defend OBJ LINK, the player may compress time until the counterattack so long as there are no remaining forces in contact.  In order to facilitate gameplay by insuring that no undetected enemy forces may prevent use of the time compression function, clearing OBJ LOG is an event that once satisfied will result in a text message that the objective is clear.
The scenario will end if there are no longer any of the player's forces in OBJ LINK once the Red counterattack has begun, or if the player reduces the counterattacking forces in LINK to a number lower than his own (effectively holding the OBJ).
Scoring is based on clearing OBJs LOG and LINK, holding OBJ LINK against the counterattack, and the player's remaining strength.

  5. Heavy CT Delay v Tank Battalion FD v2.31 (4.161)

You command a combat team (CT) consisting of a squadron of M1A1 AIM SA with a cross-attached platoon of M113AS4 and cavalry patrol of two ASLAV-25 and one ASLAV-PC for reconnaissance and screening.

The RED axis of advance has taken our forces by surprise and your CT has been rushed ahead of the battle group (BG) to delay the RED advance until BG is able to come up and defend TOWN.  Brigade’s intent is to establish a line of defence at RIVER and a successful defence of CAUSEWAY should make this possible.  To assist you a combat engineer section from BG is laying a disrupt effect minefield in front of CAUSEWAY.  Due to the rushed nature of our advance the engineers require another hour to complete laying the minefield.  It is imperative you protect the engineers from observation and direct fires until 0505 to allow them to complete their task.  You should attempt to hold RED at RIVER but if this is not possible you must prevent them advancing west as far as MARS until 0600 to allow advance elements of BG to march east and establish defensive positions immediately behind your CT.  Failure to do so will render the defence of TOWN untenable and risks BG being engaged prematurely during its march east.  Two troops of four M777 155 mm howitzers each firing ICM, HE and SMOKE natures are assigned in support.

Major, the plan to complete the mission is up to you.

Your team has two M2A1 Infantry Fighting Vehicles in company headquarters, an M981 FISTV from 1st Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment (1-82 FA), two platoons of four M2A1 each and a platoon of four IPM1 Abrams.  A battery of M109A3 with HE and SMOKE from 1-82 FA is available for indirect fire support.

Commander 1st Cavalry Division's intent is to maintain pressure on 11th Guards Tank Division by advancing to liberate GERSHAUSEN this evening in order to use it as a jumping off point for a brigade attack on KIRCHHEIM at first light tomorrow.  Commander TF 2-5 Cav has ordered Team Bravo to clear GERSHAUSEN no later than 1900.  You will advance east of ALLENDORF and clear GERSHAUSEN of enemy by H+65.  Defend GERSHAUSEN against any counter-attacks from KIRCHHEIM while Brigade moves up in preparation for tomorrow morning's attack.

The Soviet 3rd Combined Arms Army is attempting to encircle HANOVER and lead elements of 7th Guards Tank Division captured NEUSTADT AM RÜBENBERGE late yesterday.  Helicopter reconnaissance confirms a BTR-equipped motorised rifle company has occupied the town and established a hasty defence.  After a pause overnight the Soviet advance and encirclement of HANOVER is expected to continue at first light.

Commander of 1 Panzer Division’s (1 PzDiv) intent is to confirm strength of enemy (ENY) defence in NEUSTADT AM RÜBENBERGE in preparation for counterattack.  Additionally, determine direction of advance of ENY forward security element so 1 PzDiv can move to block main body along axis of advance.  Insert a patrol using infiltration route BEOWULF to observe and report on activity behind ENY lines.  Avoid decisive engagement and maintain combat effectiveness for follow-on tasking by 1 PzDiv.  You have a troop of three M109G 155 mm self-propelled howitzers firing HE and SMOKE in support.

  15. M1A1 Platoon Attack on Reinforced Motorised Rifle Company v2.4 (4.023)

You command a troop (Tp) of M1A1 AIM SA.  Your Tp is advancing as part of a combat team (CT) effort to clear the valley to your south as a precursor to further offensive operations by the battle group.  The CT's main effort is taking place to your east and to protect the flank of the main effort it is critical you secure the road junction and town at OBJ.  All available artillery and air support has been committed to support the CT's main effort to your east so you must secure the OBJ on your own.  A platoon of NZLAV-IMV from a coalition partner is attached to assist clear and secure the OBJ.

This scenario has been specifically designed to practice careful planning, appreciation of terrain and tactical movement by sections within the troop (platoon) using overwatch techniques.  It is purposely balanced in favour of RED to be unforgiving of tactical errors and to drive these lessons home.  It is challenging but can be completed with the forces at your disposal.

Lieutenant, the plan to complete the mission is up to you.

  18. Kampf um eine Ortschaft

Your task is to assault an enemy strongpoint and hold it against Sowjet counter attack. The strongpoint is defended by a mixed force of inf and mot.inf. that is supplemented by arty observers and regimental arty. Enemy arty and anti-tank means provide the backbone of the defence.
Careful reconnaissance will identify strong and weak spots of the enemy’s defence.
The attacker has to deal with a wide and open terrain that surrounds the strongpoint, facilitating dominating fields of fire for the Sowjet defender. The attacker should select weak enemy spots for attack and utilize smoke screens during the initial assault. Identification and exploitation of the enemy’s weak spots is as fundamental for the initial assault as is utilizing the terrain during assault and later defence. Failure to identify the weak spots and not anticipating the destructive force of arty may result in total destruction of the assault force.
Economy of force is also fundamental for winning this mission. Use maximum force during initial assault. Immediately after the initial assault, designate strog forces as reserves. Use only minimum forces for mopping up after initial assault. And remember, a strongpoint is best defended from flanking positions from outside the strongpoint. Anticipate a Sowjet counter attack any time.
This is basically a text book mission. Despite this and although defender and attacker employ only small forces, the fighting will be though. Do not expect to successfully assault and defend the village with the first attempt.

Please provide feedback on the scenario for future improvements of this scenario and potential other scenarios.

  19. 1991 Aachen Assault - SB Cav Tribute Scenario

This scenario is dedicated to my good friend Steel Beasts Cavalry aka. Cobra (base).

This is a scenario that would follow on to one of my previous and best scenarios, "Gradual Retreat". This one took a while as I wanted to perfect this scenario, It is accurate, ammo types are accurate to the year as well as vehicles, (But just think that the army national guard are still operating the M901's).

    ---

After the gradual retreat scenario, the Soviet forces over run the defensive line and are moving with a large force, but the time bought has been used for our rear forces to establish a 170 Km defensive line, this is last line of defence before the Soviet forces reach France.

The rest of the British forces left in the UK are mobilsed and will be in France within the next 16 hours, along with a 4 hr transit time before the first brigade of Challenger 1's can arrive from 4 Royal Tank Regiment. They have been redeployed from the Gulf.

US Forces in the area have organised a defensive strategy to reppel the soviet advance, however it is unclear as to whether it will work. 2 ACR is divided into sub groups within sectors, groups 1-8 are defending Alpha section (North), whilst 9-18 are defending Bravo section (South). Each group holds a 10km wide gap, Alpha section stretches 80 Km, leaving bravo section with 90 Km. This 170 Km line is to protect France and Belguim, however France is under threat the most.

3 Group, 2 ACR's forward elements are expected to make contact with scouting elements from the first echelon of a detachment from a Guards divison, the 5th Motorised Infantry Regiment.

"2-6/A. Contact BRDM 2 platoon, moving East Grid square 20, 53."...

  20. Red Storm Rising Defence of Alfeld

USSR forces have penetrated deep into the heartland of Germany, losses are high on both sides, its a race to see who runs out of weapons, men and ammo last. The NATO side have an armoured brigade inbound from the US in the next four days but it will mean a loss of the war if they do not reach Germany soon. The Bundeswehr are at a point where they won't surrender ground, and will fight to the death to defend their country.

We must stop a Soviet advance at Alfeld, this should halt the central sector if the bridges across the river Leine are destroyed, these are the only ones in the area that can support heavy loads.

It is our job to destroy the enemy's main echelon as much as possible, whilst doing a tactical retreat to the left side of the Leine, and FASCAM the bridges... This is what is supposed to happen. (Didn't in the Book)

    ---------
In the book, this was an unorganised defence from the UK's "3 RTR (3rd Royal Tank Regiment)", US Armoured Cav units, and the German Bundeswehr.

Challenger 1's were engaging in the streets of Alfeld, the Bundeswehr were wiped out, the US actually had the sense to pull out, and put bradley's on the ridge behind the river, but a T-72/ T-80 Coy crossed the bridges before they were destroyed and killed the US forces.

    Don't let this happen...

  21. JUMPING JACK, Kingston, Ontario, Canada

This is my first publich scenario. Situated in a Canadian/finish/northern Sweden like environment, in a mix of closed and canalized terrain with some farmland.
Can be played as single (1 recon section, 2 Mekinf platoons and 2 Tk platoons, and morter and support) or multiple players.
Tne concept is a deep Advance to contact, clean up and finally seize the objective in a industry part of city.
Eny is a single forwarded force with heavy artillery support. Enemy is randomized and very responsive action to yours. I tried to make him proactive and tricky. Just to make it fun to replay.
Further instructions in the briefing in the scenario.
If maps are needed download Kingston maps.
The Maps are build together with LEO MACDONNALD from CAN 1 armd div in the SB community.

IF I GET 3 COMMENTS, PLEASE ADD YOUR IDEAS FOR A SCENARIO, I WILL MAKE A NEW SCENARIO.

Pls issue any comment and enjoy the simulation.
Be aware the mission is very difficult and very hard to achieve success in.
The scenario has no politically or realistic intention or setup. a mix of old, new equipment, new zeeland APV, german tanks old and new russian and a bit of UK.
