  1. one of the more frustrating experiences in steel beasts is the instant teleporting and swapping of crews into the gunner's seat- particularly when an AI gunner is killed but the next in line takes over instantly with a live ATGM in action, continues to steer it, so there isn't as much of a penalty in taking a penetrating hit when the crew can instantly recover and keep a missile tracking. however, i am going to experiment with a workaround through the mission editor- perhaps assigning a damage condition (i.e., damage GPS or damage missile launcher) with a time delay to repair again- so that crew swapping and recovery isn't happening instantly and the vehicle is more degraded for the time being

  2. Favorite SB1 memory (-ies) is my preschooler on my lap yelling "FIRE!" once I'd get an enemy track in my sight. Yes, it was just as awesome and funny as you just imagined it. Favorite SB2 memory was one of those toddlers, all grown up two decades later, buying me SB2 for Christmas.

  3. - for supply trucks, possibility to choose ammo type and quantity carried for each one (with default being unlimited) - Same for fuel trucks - Be able to share ammo among vehicles in the platoon (or above) - Fire RPGs manually! - A more detailed driver position - If driver is down, other crew takes place / if tc and gunner are down, loader takes position/ if only 1 crew left, he can switch between position while waiting for support - Ability to dismount crew from vehicles for scouting

  4. A great deal of realism could be added simply by altering the skins of the trees. Good as they are right now, shadows were not taken into account when they were made and trees appear to glow from the inside. It's a simple but time consuming task to alter them (if I had the time I'd do it myself) with shadows, and the tree trunks as well. I've tried but I just can't get the time down.

  5. Misinformation? We pretty much all say the same thing, that is when driver gone, no more driving; which, according to Ssnake shouldn't be the case. I didn't mention the medical vehicle but of course you can get your crew back with an ambulance (which is not the point of this thread).

  7. i could probably tell you, and also why they were destroyed. in desert storm, it was the thermal imager of the abrams, and poor maintenance by iraqi army. most of the systems in their tanks were barely functional, and they had spent most of their best ammunition fighting the iranian army, which was outdated export rounds design (BM-12, BM-15) unable to penetrate even the front armour of the T-72M1. in 1991, russian army had far better BM-32 and BM-42 in their arsenal, with double the penetration power. during 73 easting, if i record correctly, the iraqis dug their tanks down into battle positions, so their tanks were completely stationary. a sandstorm blew up however, which obscured the american advance. while the iraqi tanks were completely blinded by the sandstorm, the americans were able to see around 500-1000m ahead with their thermals. the result was a complete destruction of the iraqi ambush. the difference in training between US and iraqi army also has to be emphasized. Iraqi army barely received any training, much less live fire training. meanwhile the US army had training simulators, and frequent live fire training exercises, along with joint training exercises with NATO. as a comparison, sweden did a trial years ago with centurions and strv 122, where they put a completely fresh crew into the strv 122 and centurion crew with years of experience. the result was predictable. strv 122 crew was completely outclassed by the much more experienced centurion crews.

  9. Wow. Alright.. @ben and I posted 18 scenarios in the last month. Perhaps they didn't meet your standard as "good"? I wouldn't know. You've never reviewed any of them or left feedback.

  10. #1 Playing in my first TGIF during the SB1 days. I was taken under the wing of an old SB vet named Lonestar. He had drawn up a plan in which our forces would take up 2 positions on hills separated by about 2 kilometers. I was part of the southern group. I pulled my tank up to a battle position and started scanning left and right. Almost immediately I spotted a platoon of tanks to the north about 2100 meters out and let loose a snap shot. I ended up hitting the tank and observed what would be a common sight for several years after, which is the satisfying drop of a barrel and a burst of flames. I was filled with a rush of adrenaline. I remember the sounds of the radio reporting that our units were taking fire, so I radioed out that I had engaged the enemy and had popped two more tanks. Lonestar gave words of encouragement, telling me that I was doing a good job....but soon after he was cursing that he had lost his whole platoon. It turns out that my crack shooting was friendly fire and I had wiped out out my CO's units...lol. Sorry LS...and tell Battledog hi for me. #2 All the friends and acquaintances made. Lonestar, Bluewings, Elf, Shermans War, Tankhunter, Delta/Assassin, Vaquero, Wahrborg, Sean, Greevil...and numerous others.

  12. Best memory? Finding out Steel Beasts is a thing. Online multiplayer experience. My best shot ever, in a full speed M1A1 firing over the left-front fender and hitting a moving target about 3000m away with first round (video is in the “We love videos” thread). Gunning for a TC who knows his stuff.

  13. As long as the AI path finding can cope. There is no point introducing extra "clutter" (one person's opinion) if it ruins the AI's ability to negotiate this busier landscape.
