Limnos Island Map Commonly known as ALTIS in the game ARMA III. This project is maybe 50% complete, but I've been working on it since 2018 and I wanted to finally just get it published. This is with great help from @MatsW, who kindly provided me the height map of the blank island of Limnos many years ago. 1. Every object you see in game is hand placed with the exception of the road network, which I also had to replace. Every bush, tree, house, and stream has been hand placed with consideration for the scale and terrain of the real life island but also adapted to the fictional island of Altis, which is just under 1/2 scale of the real island. This map has taken so long that I've actually had to revert back much work to update certain areas to Steel Beasts standards - for example - in 4.1 we were given terrain alteration tools which helped drastically, but that also meant going back and re-do much of the work that was already done. Recently, Custom Line objects were also added - this caused me to go back and deleted hundreds, maybe thousands, of standard Line Objects that I used across the map. This has taken a lot of effort. 2. Some of the villages are modelled accurately to ARMA III, but in many cases it wasn't possible due to many factors. The terrain in ARMA is smaller than 1/2 scale, so there was much more room in the 1:1 Steel Beasts version that I've made. The designers of the Altis island also made some drastic adjustments to the real life terrain, flattening many areas that aren't flat on the real life island of Limnos. 3. This map is an ongoing project and I assess it to be about 50% complete. The main area where the ARMA III campaign takes place is 'good enough' at this point, but everything on the west and northwest side of the island has been untouched. Areas that are incomplete show small streams as house outlines. To Install: Download the zip file and drop the contents in your Map Packages directory C:\ProgramData\eSim Games\Steel Beasts\maps

Hell yeah - waiting years to test this out! This project is on an awesome scale. Really nice details, well above average for steel beasts maps. Natural looking terrain and theme really compliments the buildings etc. Great use of the terrain tools, especially the river beds šŸ‘ Pushing the limits of the Steel Beasts map maker and engine. - Note for scenario designers, this is a base map so on the pick map screen, change display to All Maps to locate it.

  5. Given the many US tanks that were used in the middle east, and the fact that some fell into ISIS hands, I wouldn't be surprised at all if one or two copies made their way to Russia. I would also dispute that this would have "enormous security implications". Sure, it'd be nicer if everybody was left guessing, but once that you send weapons into a war zone, you'll eventually lose some either as a result of battle damage, or because they get captured (just like we try to capture some of their tanks, e.g. think of the T-72 trials that were done in 1991 when Germany inherited the whole East German stockpile, just as Operation Desert Storm was brewing in the Gulf region, resulting in some emergency issuing of "silver bullets" to the 105mm tank gun equipped M60 fleet of the USMC). Even if you don't capture a single tank - when you get to shoot them often enough you know immediately if you need better ammo.

  6. General Schwarzkopf explains the strategy used in Desert storm quite well in his famous news conference. Recommend a watch.

  7. Something that would be helpful would be if buildings that cannot be occupied be a different color on the map screen. I don't know if that is doable now, I don't play with maps much.

  8. Imperial Glory, same devs that did the Commandos series. This Is Total War Empire like but without the price tag. Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/277450/Imperial_Glory/ On sale at Fanatical (2,24ā‚¬): https://www.fanatical.com/en/game/imperial-glory Some have crashes, just set the compatibility mode to Windows XP SP 3 on the game .exe (root folder). In case you donĀ“t know how to do that... https://steamcommunity.com/app/277450/discussions/0/6278597937789008472/

  9. Yep, things didnĀ“t go out well. I didnĀ“t see the whole race, saw about an hour or two, but when things like this happen, then people have the right to complain. I fell bad for rFactor 2 which I enjoy a lot, but like all things nothing Is perfect. Do whish they get on the ball with there MP platform once and for all. Sad to see this happen... Love the T... DDos attacks can happen, but ItĀ“s something the org knew It could happen and should have taken measures to avoid It.

  10. Three years later and I'm nowhere near releasing this project. 2022 - I've hand-placed every object on this map. I've also done a TON of height management work (thanks to the latest tools) - things like creating actual streams with height depictions and ditches. And hand placement of Custom Line Objects to add the finer details of foliage and trees.
