M1A1 Firepower Enhancement Program (FEP). It was initiated in 2002. I don't know if they actually went on with it.

"The USMC had originally intended to award the FEP programme to DRS Technologies and announced this in May (see JDU Vol VI No.11 p23). However, following a protest by Raytheon, the latter received a US$9.7 million contract from the USMC (on 13 September) to produce a protoype FEP-equipped M1A1 which will compete with the DRS Technologies version in a shoot-off competition scheduled for 2004."
