  1. Hi No, I didn't change any settings. I just installed the new drivers and used my normal profile, which has 4xAA set as standard. cheers Porphyr
  2. Hi I had almost given up hope on getting AA working with my ATI HD4800 series card. Anyway, I downloaded ATI driver 10.10 today and fired up SB just for the sake of it... Behold! No ugly jaggies! It looks like owners of HD4800 cards can now get proper AA in combination with Win 7 64 bit. I think Ssnake will be happy, if he is still using this card. :@!2: cheers Porphyr
  3. Hi Thanks! Got it all installed and running. No problems at all here! cheers Porphyr
  4. Thanks for the info Ssnake, I have crossed my fingers on every new driver release... Ok! murkz, do you get working AA with ATI tray tools? Which ATI card do you have? And which driver and windows version do you run? Cheers Porphyr
  5. Hi For quite some time now I have been running a SB Pro PE with a ATI HD 4870 graphics card. The problem is that SB never has worked with Anti aliasing. No matter what settings i try, the result is the same, ugly jaggies. I have tried most versions of the catalyst drivers released since I got the card. No luck. Is this problem something common to all ATI cards? Other people with ATI cards, how are you doing, what generetion of card and drivers give working AA? I would be very happy to solve this riddle without buying a new card, as SB Pro PE is the only application that doesn't work with AA at the moment. Any chance the new uppgrade will make a difference? Cheers Porphyr core duo @ 3.2 4 gig ram Radeon HD 4870 Windows 7 64bit
  6. I totally second that one. Still no AA for my ATI 4800 card. Probably drivers issue, but why? Everything else I run, old and new, works with AA enabled with this card and latest drivers. Cheers Porphyr
  7. Thanks! Download and installation was smooth. cheers porphyr
  8. Patches and upgrades for SB Pro PE is always good news, thank you! cheers porphyr
  9. Good, I see some results from my tax money coming back to me in the not too distant future. cheers porphyr
  10. Good info, thanks. Do you happen to know if this is an issue with Windows 7 as well? I Run the Win 7 RC at the moment and installed the ALchemy anyway, as Win 7 seems to share a lot from Vista. cheers Porphyr
  11. That is probably because you have a 9800 GTX card, right? I'm on the 8800 series of card.
  12. Nope, no success for me with the Geforce 8800. Tried the Fps test mission and frames were just as bad as before with the newer driver. Back to the old one, which also happen to have working flat panel scaling options. Everything was better before...
  13. Interesting, would the improvement be because of the new driver or from the new Windows 7 RC? EDIT: Thanks, I will try out the new driver tonight myself.
  14. With AVG I went into Tools > advanced settings. Then under the resident shield > exceptions. Here you can choose to add a path to folders that then won't be scanned in real time by AVG. I guess you can also add exceptions to file type .aar if you want to, but I didn't do that. cheers porphyr
  15. Hi I tried setting exclusions, and it does help! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I can still notice a slight micro stutter, but it really is minimal in the missions I have tried with the new AVG setting. cheers porphyr
  16. Thanks Lieste, I will try that and see if it makes a difference. I'm running the free version of AVG at the moment. I used to have Kaspersky, and then I did'nt have these stutters with the beta version of SB Pro Pe. cheers Porphyr
  17. I tried the Border patrol single mission, and timed the stutter/micro freeze/ Hdd lag intervals with the internal clock. For me they happen exactly every 30 sec. I can even hear a slight buzz every time from my system Hdd at that moment. The pauses are connected to some Hdd activity for sure, AAR saving or something else. Any ideas what it is and how to get rid of it? I haven't had this before the upgrade. I'm running a core 2 duo @ 3, 18 Ghz, Nvidia 8800GTS, 4 GB ram, Creative X-Fi. Two 320 GB Seagate hdd and one 1TB Western Digital. cheers Porphy
  18. I have noticed the same. I don't think this has to do with graphics driver or Gpu performance, even if Nvidia drivers have some problems. It was suggested in another thread that it was the AAR being written to Hdd. In that case it's essentially Hdd lag... I haven't had this before either, with the same computer setup. Is there any way to get rid of it or improve on this on the users end? Has the way how AAR is recorded changed? Is there more data getting stored now? Not a big problem, but happens with some irritating regularity through out missions... Cheers porphy
  19. Nice! The 163.75 is stable so far on my system, but I will try later ones and compare the results as well. Anyhow, it's good to know that there is a way to get good performance with the 8 series of cards.
  20. True, using a two year old driver might mean other problems. I wish one could create a profile for a game and specify which driver version to use and pick it from a library of stored drivers on the hdd. It's no longer enough to only create profiles within the limits of one driver version, as they all seem to have pros and some severe cons... I might try drivers later than the 163.75 and see if there is a breaking point so to speak, or if the performance is continuously getting worse with every new driver. In my case it certainly looked like something was broken in the rendering, as performance with latest windows 7 64bit and vista 64 bit drivers was horrible, even in low resolution and with no AA or AF applied. I'm very happy the 163.75 worked so well with my set up, now I can fully enjoy the fine upgrade and dig deeper into SB Pro Pe. Hope you and others find the magic bullet for your system as well!
  21. I have some good news. I tried the oldest driver I could find in Nvidia archived drives for Vista 64bit, that supports the 8800GTS. From the Nvidia site. I then did the FPS test and the difference was huge! Check my posted results in the Fps test thread. Link I Haven't tried a lot more missions, but it certainly looks very promising. Ghost, your 8800GTX should be able to use that driver as well, I don't think the OS difference between Vista 64bit or Windows 7 64 bit which I have should be a problem. Hope this works out for more people with 8 series Nvidia cards. 22. Hi again I have some good news I did the same FPS test, but I used the oldest driver I could find in Nvidia archived drives for Vista 64bit, that supports the 8800GTS. I also switched to 1680x1050 when I saw huge improvements. Default sliders and no AA or AF. Will try some stock missions as well now, and just keep fingers crossed I found a working driver for this set up. 23. Hi This is my result. Some of the Fps readings where a bit hard to do. A very slight adjustment of the view direction could give big drops or slight increases. The result in game play would anyhow be extremely erratic fps. I did the test in low resolution 1024 x 768 and with no AA or AF, sliders at default. 24. Furia Did you run the FPS test mission? If so how did your setup fare with that one? Without comparing the same mission/map with different settings/hardware it's hard to judge the Fps results. Ssnakes earlier post indicates that the problem could be with some of the ground clutter or the trees. As these differs in amount and style from map to map, it's probably a good idea to use the test map when comparing results. I will do it properly tonight myself, and post my hardware and fps results in the test thread. Cheers Porphyr
