  1. Operation is done... There was no issues (lucky me), and so far game is working fine..maybe even slightly faster (better fps ) or im tripping
  2. Guys can any of you who have access to 4.0 post some screenshots ( or video, i wouldnt mind) showing smoke effects from tanks and arty barrage with new particles? Please?
  3. Im about to click on "upgrade" button. Can i expect any issues with dongle or SB itself? I gues not, but if some1 had some bad experience i would like to know about potential issues.
  4. Gahh you are right! I feel stupid now I mixed that one with Sb.. ah well the years caught up with me ... too many sims are under my belt cant remember each and every
  5. Did any of SB version used STAFF? Im pretty sure that i fired those out of M1A1 in some desert scenario, problem is that was like 15 years ago so im not even sure was it SB
  6. Mpdugas , both of you have merit up to the certain point but main thing, and actual fact is : Sb really improved over the years and version after version.... Remember - what kind of smoke and arty effects we had, then 3d instead of sprites infantry, then shadows, wind effects, burning wrecks and their smoke following the wind direction, 3d models and textures, themes...etc etc etc.... list is long and im just writing out of my head. Ultimate point is: one day we will have Dx12 as well, if there are available resources to spare im sure eSIm will go for it. I really dont think that they are "against advance" it is simple matter of having limited resources and priorities. Decision was to make terrain improvement first and then to develop other things. On a side note about that falcon BMS - i was using win 7 x64 and latest bms( i think 4.33 ) and it was messing up constantly with controls that is why it is history now. Ill stick with DCS
  7. Alas.. Each of this things has some flaws: For example: BMS wont even work on my PC - it keeps messing up my input settings and axis. Pedal input was suddenly throttle, throttle was brake axis, and so on... I tried for 3 full months and then finally i decided i had enough. DCS series are soooo slow and lagging behind with development and devs are breaching even deadlines they set them self - Nevada map was planned to be released like 3 years ago, right after A10 was released, but they managed to "release" alpha version just 6 months ago. Same goes for new engine. I will not even start to speak about whole bunch of bugs and issues with this or that version of game in progress, driver incompatibilities and so on. Compared to them SB is stable and rock solid ( im yet to have a single crash for God knows how many years of use... 15-16 i dont know). FPs is always good and believed or not graphics are actually upgraded constantly. I agree that eye candy can be HUGE reason to enjoy some sim. I would love to have Dx11 graphic and mud simulated ( as in Spintires for example ); However if immersion is good and game can create good atmosphere lot of player will not even bother with graphics. it is called simulation for reason P.S. why multiple posts one after another, it looks like spam and you may make Hommer angry..
  8. Maybe But i dont see a reason not to switch to something which will speed you up. IT will have to happen eventually sooner or later.
  9. Im not expert, but.. isnt part of a problem sticking to DX9 old architecture? If you upgrade engine to dx11 or dx12 it should gain HUGE fps if for nothing else then for pure fact that hardware supported tessalation and multi gfx CPUs of different type can be used to render scene together?
  10. They are using cheap joysticks - Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS: too few buttons, no separate left and right thrust etc... :) DCS can be configured to work with this ( i used same config for 2 years ) but when i switched to X55 i felt reborn P.S> dont even try to use T-FLIGHt with SB - it has so bad sensitivity curve that you will in 95% of cases either lead too fast in front of target or you will drag behind...
  11. Im 100% one day we all ( including military customers ) will have good enough hardware to have huge maps and 60 fps constantly even with graphics like this: But if we cant have both at same time im for fps and big maps instead of graphics like above.
  12. I nevr dared to use that "Borrow" tab in CodeMeter control centar , im not in mood to wait again 3 weeks for dongle to arrive and to pay another 125$ because i "wanted to try" So as alternate solution i went and simply borrowed money to 2 guys i work with and who wanted to try the "demo". Now they have 1 month licence and they can decide will they go for 4.0 or they will drop the SB completely, but my dongle and license are safe
  13. It was ages since i had red ball of death flying towards me because i moved to tank to tank combat in urban and close quarter wood engagements. As far as i can remember when launching vehicle is dead or disabled missile was always hitting the dirt. You had easy way to know have you neutralized that vehicle as threat or not - if missile was flying after first hit then it was still dangerous and required more "suppression". IT would go overhead only if you manage to find some cover or ditch etc.. But you say you had completely different experience, and if this was changed then thumbs up for the added realism.
  14. IT would be VERY handy to have copy & paste option for everything. Dead and disabled vehicles included.
  15. Similar to yours: X55 without throttle, i use left hand on keyboard, Track IR5, and VoiceAttack for voice commands to platoon and crew. I didnt fiddled with anything joystick related in options as far as i know short of reversing Y axis , I had to after so many years of flight sims my brain is reversed when it comes to Y axis :D. And it worked perfectly "out of the box". That cursor you mention can be seen around if you click with muse on your view but as soon as i move head or joystick it disappears because game gives priority to X55 instead to mouse.
  16. When you start the game and enter the actual battle in system menu it should be shown as "show mouse vector" For some reason i cant make screen shot ( i get white screen ) so i cant show you exactly where it is but it is in system menu. However it should disappear as already mentioned above as soon as you move or use your joystick. How is X-55 working in other games?
  17. I have X55 as well, no probs at all, gunnery sight works ok, however.. You are talking about black cross hair - you dont see black one unless you click on sight with your mouse and you have enabled in options "show mouse lead" or something similar.. So maybe you are pulling on 1 side with mouse cursor ( black one ) and to other side with X55 input?
  18. IT is insane how much interesting and detailed information any user with internet can find today, especially if he knows where to look. You guy s are amazing, some of stuff here were 15 or 20 years ago available to very narrow circle of experts and maybe spies from opposite side I guess sim itself reflects this expertise sometimes when you have time to look around , attention to realistic details is amazing. After 15 years of playing it i still manages to pull out some surprise and blow you away. Cheers!
  19. To see who can jump higher? Who pimped its ride better?
  20. When I asked on previous page will simulation be delayed then until October, i wasnt panicking i was just thinking that would be the most logical thing to do, so i was a bit surprised- let me try to explain: All previous versions had some bugs, more or less. Some were fixed in later patches, some were left around until next major update etc... So if team is busy until October, then maybe it would be better to simply postpone everything until winter holidays, or whenever you think you will have time to do it properly and without fiddling with civil/military versions? Main reason from my point of view is that if you release this and then we found something problematic, it will have to wait for 3-4 months to be fixed and there will be nothing any1 can do about it. June is behind us, plans A and B went through the window, so lets forget about summer plan C and move on to winter release. There will be no pressure or nagging here on forum ( hopefully ) , eSims will have more time to work on military project "in peace" and hopefully end it faster. Then turn full attention to 4.0 bugs and issues which couldnt be tackled in planned time span during summer. It is a win win situation.
  21. Wait.. so release will be delayed until October?
  22. I did upgrade mine already - I have now i7 5820 with 16GB of DDR4 and i decided to stretch for 8 Gb model of R9 390x instead of smaller one.. With this rig 3.028 is VERY smooth ( but i never tried x86 version, just x64) even with lot of things going on and details near max. There is no going back now but im nearly quite sure that i will keep my 60+ FPS even with new particles and weather and later, terrain. Will game be more CPu demanding or more GPU demanding.. i dont know, i upgraded all 3 crucial components, and this should be enough imho. About the delay - as ppl already mentioned, with all new things i really doubt any1 will miss too much new high res terrain for another few months. My wild guess is that maybe most obvious thing which will follow the lack of high res terrain would be the suspension animation. It will use the old grid density so it wont go up and down so smoothly or so frequently. P.S. Can any 1 of testers which have access to 4.0 post a few pictures or video with artillery effects ( HE and ICM)? Pretty please
  23. IF i read everything here, correctly, main issue is that AI infantry dont handle good enough urban situations because they got stuck around corners, around walls etc.. So players have to hop in, and when they hop in they demand guns, sights and FPS view etc... So i thought why dont you simply make them go through everything only slower: if AI had to negotiate a wall instead of making engine to calculate the route around, simply make it that infantry can go through the wall or building if it could be negotiated in RL - not through the wall 4m high for example, but 2m is ok ... and make them move through it slower then normal, to simulate effort climbing it or going around etc... Just a thought ..
  24. Of things you mentioned only close the hatch would be possible: Both tracks were gone, main gun as well, ( beside it would be useless, they were so close i couldnt depress coax enough to hit them...) Only thing i could do is to try and engage with Dshk which failed because it is too slow and i had to keep popping up and down ( realistic situation and i was trying impossible, so no probs there. ) But if i could stay half unbuttoned ( as protected position in M1 ) and toss few frags around the tank those insurgents would be history. As Daskal would say (the tc from The Beast ) :"Out of comission, become a pillbox. Out of ammo, become a bunker. Out of time, become a heroes." Oh, btw there was 1 platoon of friendly militia and 1 plt of regulars closely enough to help, i dragged them around manually to cover me but they got stuck around some wall and that was that for me & my tank - we had to handle on our own.
  25. There is a scenario called "Government Action" with small government forces storming village with mixed civilian population and insurgents inside. I used it to practice my commanding skills and there were dozen of situations where i wanted just to pop up the hatch and throw a few frags on some infantry running around tank. So yeah, it would be cool to gave something for "Throw out frag" similar to pop up smoke command only it should work only with open hatch. Some tanks can load frags instead of smoke on turret launchers but they are not covering so close quarters ( under 10m around tanks). Big yes from me for the suggestion.
