  1. Hi Tango Sure. I don't have it on this computer but I'll put it in my public Dropbox folder and post the link a bit later. It's a pure 'movement' exercise - no exciting shooting I'm afraid!
  2. This seems to be universal. My old Flight Sim squadron broke up because the 'next big thing' sim turned out to be useless and non one wanted to go 'back' to the old one. Many of these guys were definitely (I thought) simmers, not gamers. Their individual IQs were way above room temperature. They studied aircraft specs, air combat manoeuvring etc, and as a result the squadron was a big hitter on several IL2 open servers. Then one of them discovered WoT - and that's where they've been ever since. I don't understand it.
  3. Maybe. But they are just sooooo cute.
  4. An excellent turnout - including our two latest members, Bignose03 and PincerDK. Because of that we ran our standard 'Company Group, Advance to Contact' training exercise again, with all four tanks in the troop manned, the new guys winging for two experienced members. The four M113 platoons were individually commanded. All went well with good cooperation between the tanks and APCs in country that is basically open but contains several wooded 'threat areas' that need to be secured to allow the tanks safe passage. So plenty of (fairly) well organised to and fro movement. New guys now fully qualified as TCs, and look as if they will move to Section and then Troop commanders without much trouble.
  5. Pincer, I forgot to say, that if you haven't already done so, please visit the port forwarding thread in this forum: http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbforums/showthread.php?t=7739 and setup your router. Please not that TCP/UDP means that you need to open the ports in the range of 2300 to 2400 for BOTH TCP AND UDP. www.portforward.com/routers is another useful website that has detailed instructions for virtually every router ever made. Apols for the late heads-up.
  6. As a noob myself (Jan this year) I thoroughly endorse the above. I have had all my questions on this forum answered quite satisfactorily, and have been helped out on a one-to-one basis on Teamspeak by various people on several occasions. An engineer, looking for the reason for repeated failures will try to find a common denominator present in all instances - and fix that first.
  7. Excellent Pincer. I look forward to it.
  8. Just four of us plus Gibsonm due to some personnel being on sick leave following TTP. PTSD, I'm told. Revision and consolidation of Company Group 'advance to contact' on our favourite Puckapunyal exercise area. Excellent value as usual. On Sunday we will take the lessons learned to a less familiar map, probably adapting part of an existing SP scenario to our own requirements.
  9. Sorry Hedge - that should have been 'inimitable', of course.
  10. Hi PincerDK UK Armour has room for a two more, and I'd be happy to meet you on Teamspeak any evening from 1900Z (200BST) onwards this week. Or you could drop into our next Sunday evening session at the same time. Best to arrive about 15 min early for a chat. We are a relatively new unit, and still working up. However, we participated in the recent international TF AZUR scenario without disgracing ourselves. Our approach to 'in game' protocol is the same as yours. Mark Gibson is our TDY Senior Training Officer and continues to be invaluable. Another of our assets is the imitable Hedgehog. If you wish to meet on TS before Sunday please email me at tonywjones@clara.co.uk as it's sometimes a day or so between my visits to this forum.
  11. And in case you didn't know (it's not all that obvious in the manual) Alt/F12 gives you an on-screen fps readout.
  12. So SB models Warsaw Pact NVGs on the assumption that although they are not directly 'associated' with the vehicle's night optics, the NVG equipment would have been similarly poor compared to NATO's? Have I got that right?
  13. I had my head down looking at the map at the time planning some new routes. You know, like I've been told is the professional way? I did notice a lot of bangs going on outside but thought it best not to look.
  14. Having four of our senior members absent gaining 'invaluable experience' in the TTP tournament gave the C.O the ideal opportunity to inadvertently lead the Squadron's newest member into bad tactical habits in an Advance to Contact exercise. Fortunately, this was promptly jumped on by Gibson - so it all turned out well in the end. Perseverance was never so enjoyable.
  15. And the difference between GMT and Local time is a variable known as Rorke's Drift.
  16. NP. RL can be a bugger. This Wednesday we have a 4 person detachment competing in the TTP competition but I will certainly be on TS at the normal time.
  17. I must have been subconciously influenced by them being MIA1s - and the APCs being M113s.
  18. Oh bugger - wrong forum section. Could a moderator kindly move it to the Multiplayer section please? Many thanks.
  19. Fast track training of the C.O to Company Commander status continues at a hectic rate, naturally revealing some weaknesses along the way. Like he keeps forgetting about indirect fire support. Sunday involved a Mech Inf compay (M113s) reinforced by a platoon of 4 MIA1s in an excellent and highly flexible Advance to Contact scenario designed by Lt Col Gibson, who rode along in his private MIA1 (very shiny) to pull the triggers and adjust the difficulty level. Capt Hedgehog commanded the tanks in his usual inimitable fashion, but was surprised on occasion by the sudden appearance of eny armour in unexpected positions. Dare I say 'Gibson 1. Small blue prickly creature 0? Not the final score, I'm sure. Let's say that lessons were learned - many of them being the 'what not to do' variety. All part of the learning curve and valuable experience. And judging by our continued excellent turnout, the balance of training and playing is about right.
  20. I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK... Obscure joke that will only be appreciated by Brits of a certain generation.
