I stopped to play this game because the performance are very often bad...

Then you might be happy with current 4.2 version's performance. My hardware is a tad worse than yours, but performance is consistently good. The new visual effects surprised me the most - especially all the action you see through the optics - when I recently got back to SB and upgraded from 4.1. Maybe give SB a second chance?

  2. The shifted terrain does not affect saved files.

... if you have a patch of gravel somewhere, paint it again with gravel and then jump into 3D view. Voila, no shifting.

Tanks a lot! :@!2: I think I witnessed this myself, but I thought I had just mixed up the files. :clin:

  3. Hi! I didn't see this one mentioned:

All ground textures have started shifting when I move or delete objects. This started about a week after I started creating the map. Sometimes they move a lot sometimes just 20 meters. Editing textures does not produce this phenomenon.

Steps to repeat textures shifting to the right:

    1. Open attached map in the Map Editor.
    2. Move brick wall to fix a gap in its corner. The gap is next to the viewpoint indicator in the middle of the first screenshot. Fix it as in picture #2.
    3. Go to 3D view
    4. All textures on the map have moved about 20 m or so to the east as seen in pictures #3 and #4.

Theme is Pahka summer.thm, comes with 3.011 and I haven't edited it. The shifting occurs with Kouvostoliitto Summer.thm too. Height map is KurskRussia 80 km 1A.hgt.

I hope this was at least somewhat helpful. I'm stuck with my scenario until this is fixed.

  4. Ditto to what Enigma said. I had voted for new graphical effects in a poll earlier this year. Though what we got may not be the latest and greatest in graphics technology, it is, however, quite sufficient to keep SB from looking too dated. I'll be happy with these effects until the next upgrade. Good job eSim Games!

  5. If I don't post one like this, one of you will anyway!

I think I got the hang of it now. Create civvies, draw an area, Spawn Zone, Select prototype (the civvies you made), assign drain zone if you want them to walk towards some place.

To hide the civvies before they are created: Options -> Spawn if... [any condition which will never be true]

  6. Firmware update solved my problem too, thank you!

I do seem to remember I was adviced to "update firmware" but I had no idea how to do it. For other computer illiterates I attached a screenshot of the place where you can do it. Notice it does not say "update" nor "firmware" anywhere on that page! So eSim Games is not to blame - Wibu Systems' cryptic software is.

And with that - I'm off to play with my new toy!

  7. Thank you and sorry I sounded so frustrated. SB just finished downloading, I'll just install it from there! (I did not know it was included.)

+ Edit: I'm sorry to say this but... still no luck. I installed CM software but the stick firmware is too old or something. Licence upgrade was successful, but when I start the game:

    2013-09-21 01:38:52: Entry (100146:11091) not found - Event WB0224 (BOX VERSION TOO OLD), Request IP-Address local(IPV6)

  8. If don't have the runtime software, the activation page directs me here:

    1. Generate a License Request File from your CmContainer (You can use CodeMeter Control Center). Use Firm Code 100146.

How do I "use CodeMeter Control Center" without the runtime software?

I can't download the CM runtime software, because "The server at www.wibu.com is taking too long to respond.". I have tried for hours now. Good thing I knew this would be just as difficult again as it has been every time.

Why don't I already have the runtime thing? Because I was smart and deleted the old software, because someone said it would be a good idea. Then I went to download a new one... oops. I can't. :(

  9. Is anyone using the Saitek X65f joystick with SB?Its on my to buy list and wondering if the non moving joystick would work well with Steel Beasts.....

I would not recommend X65F or any non-moving joystick for tanking or flight sims. Humans need the feedback of movement. Try it before you buy.

  10. Yskonyn, I've been playing Steel Beasts with TM Warthog since 2.6 came out and it's great. I've got the stick attached to my chair (see picture). I'm also using a custom made panel under my display with toggle switches for fire control system etc. not unlike Froggy's. (Please implement the rest of the T-72 kb shortcuts too, eSim!)

I hope this was inspirational viewing for builder-types like myself.

(yes, the red thingie under the chair is a Buttkicker tactile feedback device - it's great with SB I can tell you.)

  11. You! Should've guessed... you're involved one way or the other in all cool things in the virtual tank world.

How that SB multiplayer campaign coming along? I can't wait. Heck, even my wife is looking forward to it. She's trying to catch up on her limited (her words) tank commander's skills in order to participate. I told her she can't be my gunner any more in a T-72 because the commander's role is more limited compared to a Leo 2 which we have crewed together so far - and had a blast in it!

Finally, Finnish infantry anti-tank training accurately modelled in 2.6. These guys are seconds from being run over by a CV9030:

  12. Where is that soooo familiar music from? Some old strategy game? Can't find the name from my memory...

I thought nobody would ask :-D It's from Steel Panthers: World at War Used to play that waaay to much. Ahhh... German Random Campaign 1939-1945, Lost Victories Campaign (payware)...

SPWAW is freeware, always been. It was destined to be a commercial release but they changed their mind, I've forgot why. I expect everyone knows it around here, but if you don't, check it out.

  13. Steel Beast Pro PE video after action report

Mission: cover a withdrawal from Pyssykylä in the south-east while a mechanized company-sized enemy is attacking from the north-west.

    lLIhnjZFQ0M

Mission and game hosting by Espi (a.k.a. haukka81 at http://www.steelbeasts.com/sbforums/ ).

This take was the last of maybe six, the rest were complete disasters. This time we survived, but the withdrawal was seriously hindered, so even this attempt was actually a failure... We'll nail this one too, one day.

My voice is barely audible while the others come out too loud. There was little I could do in editing, however, or the simulation sounds would not play either. Maybe capture Teamspeak voice separately next time?

  14. I have finally taken the plunge.

    Welcome aboard, tanker! :cvcsalut:

so I'm just awaiting my dongle right?

That's right. Download version 2.640 while you wait if you haven't done so.

2 - Mouse is a perfectly acceptable control vs a joystick. Seems like most say it's preference and there are plenty of pros & cons either way I go.

Mouse is more accurate, joystick may be a little faster in some situations especially if the stick has got dozens of buttons like mine has(23 actually). Both are just as good.

3 - Start with the tutorial for a single vehicle and once competent work out from there.

I wouldn't be too strict about competence, but it's easier for you if you concentrate on something first.

4 - Fridays are drop in TGIF nights and all are welcome regardless of skillset, though basic understanding and skill is expected.

Others can advice you on this.

1 - Is it still preferable NOT to start with either the Leo or M1?

Well, I did. I don't see any problem with that.

2 - When it comes to upgrade time, I don't need to order a new CodeMeter stick, the upgrade license will provide some kind of functionality to upgrade my license?

One codemeter is all you will ever need.

3 - Is the printed manual worth it?

I still use it sometimes, so I think it is.

4 - Are there any key maps, etc. that I should be downloading to make sure I can participate? Any good training scenarios that help track a variety of skillsets to help determine proficiency with multiple or even a single AFV?

Maps, no. Check Single player / Easy scenarios in the downloads section. I ended up using the editor and making my own.
