  1. had a HD die on me a few years back, and recovering data was possible. so theres still hope. not sure what happends when a HD fails, but i think its the chips that short-circ, and not the disks that erase themselves.
  2. yes, trees stops ATGMs and HEAT warheads. maybe the HEAT round retained enough energy after punching through the tree to do some additional damage. try putting the CV90 at different distances behind trees, and shoot the trees while aiming for the cv90, and see if you're capable of killing it.
  3. i think the guns are more like 1 gun with 2 barrels in a sense.
  4. and what would you use a double barreled artillery gun in a tank game that got a decent, but pretty basic artillery model for?
  5. thank you all for your nice comments, it feels good to be appreciated

em circles aint on all the M1A1s.
  8. as stated before, i don't have any templates for the Ural or FIST-V, or M901.
  9. ack. well i didn' do the griffon or the piranha III so i don't have templates for those, unfortunately. i'll post up the 122 maybe later. for now i'm working on new vehicles for Sb.
  10. the AI probably thinks the embankments are the worlds best battle position! well, at least until they slide into the river. rivers ARE good battle positions though. you can sneak troops along the rivers pretty far.
  11. well, that a very soft and pliable definition, several APC's also have troop hatches, which allows infantry to fight from the vehicle. i'd say the definition of IFV would be 2 man turret, while APC is 1 man turret, or pintle. weight is also soft and pliable definition. you have heavy APC's and light IFVs. theres almost a need to go philosophical to be able to give accurate definitions of what an IFV and APC consists of. it basically just boils down to general "feel" the LAV-25 by technical definition would be a wheeled IFV. although its armour isn't IFV class.
  12. ok, finally got to fixing the leopard 2a5DK link, and added a hind and humvee template. (listed as new) the M901 isn't really my model, which means not even i have the template for that one. the M113A3DK isn't mine either. http://www.dejawolf.com/steelbeasts/SBtemplates.html

well, you can start off with this program here: http://www.blender3d.com/cms/Home.2.0.html and see what kind of models you come up with. or maybe this one: http://www.wings3d.com/ they're both free of charge.

yeah i know about the light conditions all too well, and its been driving me to quite a few hair-tearing sessions, spending 2 hours trying to get the correct colour value and finding out it was wrong after my adjustments. the difficulty with finding correct values for Sb, is that the colour values of light and shading is contradictory in SB, and because this is Als territory, i have no way of adjusting it to my liking. so in the standard config, the lighting is overcast, the sky is clear. its especially wrong for a desert... its interesting to note that i managed to get the abrams with the standard pinkish colour to look that desert yellow, only with a bit of light configuraiton in 3ds max. heres the pic:

well, colour is more about balance. too much colour, and you'll end up with happy valley's fun tanking courses. too little, and its just dull. i've been tipping towards the duller end of the scale mostly. well its great that you make proper desert skins, i mostly go full on with the woodland theme and TIS, and simply don't have much more energy left for the desert version and winter one.

in-game? no way. it both eats memory, and crashes the framerates. even in 3ds max it is causing slowdowns. this is mostly just a postertank, and for detail reference for a future in-game model. (SB2 probably) nice skins btw. hehe. guess i should stop doing my desert skin in that pale pink desert yellow. seems like its the colour that appears in the shade..

the rear 3 1/2 skirts is rubber as well. otherwise, a nice new look for the T-80U! from my knowledge. the rubber parts colour will become more apparent as it wears down, from initial green, to a dark grey/ occasional white string wireframe underneath being exposed, as the rubber cracks. car rubber flaps can be good for reference for a worn look. additionally, as the camouflage gets exposed to the elements, it will gradually be brightened by the sun. exposed spots will get bleached by the sun, and if the paint is of lower quality, and the metal is exposed to a lot of water, causing it to oxidate, the paint could start chipping off, and oxidation bubbles appear on the surface. this is most likely to happend if the paint has already been scraped away from driving in a forest, and hitting heavy twigs and such. if the vehicle is then exposed to water, the oxidation will occur more rapidly, but in general, it will appear over time, because of occasional rain etc, mostly with bad maintenance. oxidation spots will first make the paint chip rapidly around the scrape area, with rust appear underneath. during rain, the rust might spill out of the cracks, creating red stripes of rust. areas where these cracks are likely to be present is side hull and turret, and the lower front wedge, although its likely that these spots are covered by dust and sand. other causes of rust spots, is when sand has been lying on top of a vehicle, and rubbed over the paint when walking, etc, which also wears down the paint of the vehicle, creating a brighter appearance. hmm.. i should be writing a tutorial. hah.
